I love shiny Pok?mon. This thread is for sharing shinies that you obtained from any generation and discussing shiny Pok?mon methods! You can share your most recent capture, your most memorable encounter, or just some fun stories about shiny Pok?mon! You can also ask questions about shiny Pok?mon.

What are shiny Pok?mon?

Shiny Pok?mon are rare color variants of regular Pok?mon. Some examples of a shiny Pok?mon are a blue Gastly or a pink Mudkip. Shiny Pok?mon sparkle when they are sent out of their Pok? Ball. They are incredibly rare to encounter in the wild, and you are very lucky if you find one.

What are the odds of finding a shiny Pok?mon in the wild?

The odds of finding a shiny is 1/8192 in Generation II, III, IV, V. In Generation VI and VII, the odds were halved to 1/4096. There are several methods that reduce the shiny rates in Gen VI and VII, but the exact odds are not currently known.

In Gen V, a special Key Item called the Shiny Charm was released. It reduces the odds in B2/W2 from 1/8192 to 1/2370.6. In Gen VI and VII, the Shiny Charm reduces the odds from 1/4096 to 1/1365.3. You can earn the Shiny Charm by (Spoiler ahead, don't view if you'd rather figure out how to get the Shiny Charm by yourself)

You earn the Shiny Charm by completing the national dex in B2/W2, XY, and ORAS. In Sun and Moon, you earn the Shiny Charm by completing the Alola Dex and then talk to the Game Director in Heahea City.

Do shiny Pok?mon have any value besides looking cool?

Unfortunately, no. They aren't more or less powerful than regular Pok?mon. The only thing that makes shiny Pok?mon different than regular Pok?mon is the color palette, sparkle, and bragging rights.

Here are my shiny stories!

Last week, I got a shiny Ralts after only 3 DexNav encounters! I was prepared for a big hunt! I was hoping for a male (because I already have a shiny female Gardevoir, and I want shiny Gallade) but unfortunately it was a female. Oh well. :(
A couple days later, I got a shiny Absol after 60 DexNav encounters. It was a male, and had Megahorn which is an egg move! ^^

I'm currently SRing for Shiny Lugia. I'm at ~300 SRs, but still no shiny. :( I wish I was as lucky as those people who get their shinies in ~100 SRs.
