I realized this for the first time ever today about the pokemon Gen 1.
The Main character of all the Gen 1 story lines is often acting villainous!
Think about it... In Red and Blue version, you basically ruin your Rival's life.
At first you guys start out as regular slightly competitive friends.
Due to a battle with your opponent, his Raticate dies and needs to be buried in Lavender Town (which is why he's there), yet our character shows no sympathy. The Rival promises to become the best in the world at pokemon and beat you, but you just keep smashing his face into the ground in the various pokemon battles.
Then he finally feels accomplished when he beats the elite four and becomes the champion... only to lose to you moments later shortly after achieving victory.
Then... to add insult to injury, his grand father steps in and congratulates you for kicking his own grand son's ass so badly.
In the end, poor old Gary/Blue has 1 dead pokemon, lost every battle to you, lost his champion ranking after having it for maybe a good 5 minutes, is not respected in any way by his own grandfather, and to top it all off, he's always been an orphan.
We as player characters... destroyed his life.
So PokeCommunity, now that you know that you played through the entire first generation as an Antagonist, how do you guys feel?
