Defog is a Flying-type move. I just caught some random Zubat and taught it Defog. I didn't want any of my Party Pokémon to have this move. :P

defog is useless in this game, it's handy but nvertheless useless.

lol me to, Defog is really useless I made it out with out that HM.So you really don't need it unless you want a better view on the fog.

Since Defog is flying-type, use it on a flying pokemon and it should work. Defog's pretty much useless and a crappy combat move unless you really can't see in a foggy area like the area near Celestic town or that one area in Mt. Coronet.

the only REAL reason why one would need it is to fing the dragon lady in one of the foggy areas. I couldn't find a way to her house for such a long time (because i never got defog, thus was not able to see the rock wall) but other than that, you can go without even getting it from the guy in the safari zone.

Oh okay. Good point. Luckily I was following an in-depth, step-by-step guide at that point so I didn't get totally messed-up. But yeah, otherwise, defog is completely useless and basically uneeded.
Unless your Zubat is a side-pokemon used only for the purpose of filling your PokeDex, then I reccomend not teaching the HM to it. You can go the entire game without it, and it's a total waste when used in combat.

haha i taught it to some random starly that was in my box- and then i went to a foggy area and i realized that it was totally useless

It should have been made a TM like Flash was. They're both only useful in two small areas of the game that you're not required to visit.
I used it on Staraptor, who was also my Flying pokemon. I'm sure Starly can probably learn it too.

actually, i think that there are 2 or 3 areas that defog can be used (one is a route, one is in mt. coronet i think, and the other is where giratina is)

Oh yea, forgot about Giratina.
Still, I think the Earthquake TM (which required Flash) is more useful than Gira. :P
