Every Generation is Perfect!

True, every generation has its fair share of brilliant and terrible Pokemon designs, and we could argue this for hours (days if we bring up the case of Bidoof), but just for the generations...

Technically, the newer generations win for me. Graphics, gameplay, new ideas, old ideas reimplemented... they keep me amazed with every new game announced.

But I say old generation. And here's why (in bulletpoint form!)

- The old generations are where it all began. Where we were all introduced to the world of Pokemon, where the gameplay was set down and the battle/game system created from scratch. This is where our love began.

- It was supremely original at the time. No matter what anyone says, it was an original idea, with original creatures and an almost-original concept (don't want to say original because I know there'll be something out there to prove me wrong).

- Loads of it has stayed untouched. The basics of battling are the same today as the first day we picked up our gameboys. Those 151 creatures are still batting around, albeit with shiny new sprites, and we know we'd be worse off without them. The region of Kanto has stayed (more or less) the same, and we all love to revisit it.

- Let's face it, we all tried to learn the 151 Pokemon, didn't we?

- Without it, what would we have today? Nothing. Without Gen I and II, we wouldn't have a Gen IV at all.

And just to make this personal, loads of my favourite Pokemon are from the originals. I don't know what I'd do without Pidgeot, and then later, Sneasel, Ursaring and Feraligatr.

oo, thats a tough one for me. I get a more nostalgia feel from the 3rd generation than the 2nd. arghh my brain hurts. Cant I just say the middle generation?

As for Pokemon design's I really love every generation but I do give advantage to Gen. II and Gen. III. I love Johto and Kanto as well as their pokemon.

And I do agree with Kon that Pokemon was an original idea (or at least an original twist on an old idea if that's how you want to look like it) with alot of original implements I still think that the actual designs of the first gen pokemon (Especially compared to later gens if you want to think that fair) are the most unoriginal. I love them all though so it doesn't matter. Each gen. brings so much to the table and for such a long lasting series Pokemon has done very little wrong. (In the main series at least...)

I get the feeling the newer gen lack the creativity and spark the older gen has.

personally i feel like the first and second generations gave a lot more to offer than the last two when it comes to pokémon designs, and personally,

(i know this is gonna sound crazy),

i feel attracted to the concept of pokémon by the pokémon themselves, not their stats… so no! fugly god-arse pokémon, i'm down with venusaur :)

I feel like everyone who has lived through all the generations in order will most likely say the old generation was better. I shouldn't say everyone though, just mostly everyone. That's just a guess though so you can clam down if I have suddenly offended you.

I lived through all the generations in order and maybe I sound like a nostalgic fool, but I can't help but love the older generations more then the newer ones. I personally feel as though the first and second generation had some of the best Pokemon around. Along with the most memorable characters whether it be the game or the anime.

That's not to say I don't like the newer Pokemon. It's just that they don't appeal to me as much as the older ones. Needless to say I also have a few newer Pokemon favorites. I don't mention them as much because their not as notable. I actually throughly enjoyed all the generations except generation IV, but I'm not even going to bother and go off on that situation.

Overall I think the real reason as to why I don't care for the new generation Pokemon as much is because when compared to the old ones they are more complex. They are so overdone and exaggerated that they don't look as real or believable.

I say older generations.
I've never had more fun then the first time i played my gold version.
I Think that after G/S/C replaying the games (S/R/E,D/P) was almost pointless.
The storylines were repetitive and the party combinations composed of the same pokemon over and over.
You didnt really have much choice in what to use in the newer generations :/

With generation V coming out soon, will generation III still be considered a "Newer Generation", or be lumped with generations I and II, with people chatting about how it introduced abilities, EV training, double battling, secret bases, etc., ignoring all it's flaws? After all, 2002 is is a long time, and the GBA is being phased out permanently...
