Old-timey Pokemon game?

I'm not talking about a cheap, gimmicky one where everyone walks around with monocles sipping tea.

I'm talking about a game that takes place before the "modern" era of Pokemon. Back when people used Apricorns, back before there were PCs, back when Pokemon changed the Earth, back before Burned Tower was burned... You'd have to pick a time period and stick with it, but it could be really cool.

I doubt it'll ever happen, but wouldn't it be cool? How would you design it?
