So, I'll start uploading a fan-fiction my friend and I have been trying to write and finish from our takes on the Red and Blue games. As you'll soon see, the story revolves around two older girls who received their Pokemon at the same time as Ash and Gary, one of which claimed Charmander and the other claimed Bulbasaur, but this is their story through the journeys they take.

You'll see there are a few differences from typical Pokemon anime (Kanto season), one of which is the rule of containing more than six Pokemon, but only using up to six in an official match. You'll realize the rest as the story continues.

The teams from the important characters of the story will be posted below:

    CHAPTER ONE
"Nidorino begins the battle with a Horn Attack! Oh, but Gengar bounces right back – and there it is – the Hypnosis power of Gengar! This could be the end of Nidorino," the announcer shouted as the two Pokémon fought, the lights of the stadium highlighting their every move, the shouting of the people in the stadiums growing with each second that passed. "Oh, but Nidorino is called back by its trainer…" The cameras pulled back as a Pokéball was thrown out, the red of it replaced with a pale green, and a giant light erupted from it. It formed into a giant rock snake; "And out comes Onix!"

The cameras that captured the entire battle were flooding to all televisions in almost the entire region, including at least two televisions located in Pallet Town, one of which was owned by a seventeen-year-old girl named Selena Hale. Selena has been home with her two parents, and little brother, for her entire life, never once being allowed out on a journey beforehand. She was always forced to stay home and watch the battles broadcasted over the television, but even some of those she was not allowed to watch. For the past seven years, she has been anxious to know when she would begin her journey. And luckily, for her, that day was tomorrow. She had been told by her parents the night before this night, and right now, Selena was busy watching the match between two powerful Elite trainers, Bruno and… the other name slipped her mind.

But much of this didn't matter much to her anymore – Selena was too busy thinking about who her starter would be. Selena had done a lot of research that day about the three starters she would be able to pick from the next day – Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.

Bulbasaur was a Grass type and was known for growing a quick bond with its trainer, but it was also an easy Pokemon to train. Perfect for beginners.

Charmander was a Fire type and was known for its fiery spirit and its determination to never give up. It was a more difficult Pokemon to train than Bulbasaur but many people have claimed it to be worth it.

Squirtle was the most difficult out of all to train and to grow a bond with, but the effort taken in succeeding in that was enormous. Squirtle were notorious for evolving and then later becoming mighty Pokemon.

But Selena knew who she was going to choose in the end. It was the same Pokemon her cousin, Amanda, choose when she began her journey a year ago, who now still travels around Kanto, training her team. Amanda has told Selena countless times that she wants to train her team to compete in the Pokemon League. The Pokemon League was a collection of some of the most talented Pokemon trainers in the Kanto region. Amanda's team was one of the strongest Selena had ever had the privilege to see. It was only three weeks before current day when she first saw them, when she attended Amanda's eighteenth birthday party in Viridian, Amanda's hometown.

Selena shook her head slightly to clear her thoughts – she was straying from her main topic – her journey. Which Pokemon would she want to capture to become part of her team? Which route would she take as a trainer – would she battle for badges? Or maybe she would-

    "Selena?"

The green-eyed seventeen-year-old turned her head toward the door of her room, seeing her mom standing in the doorway, through some of the long black bangs that hung over her right eye.

Her mother was a middle-aged woman, with soft pale skin that Selena had gotten from. Her mother's eyes were not green but brown, and dark brown hair curled around her ears. A tan cat-like Pokemon, a Persian, was standing at Selena's mother's side, purring and rubbing its head against the pant legs of Selena's mother. That Persian belonged to her mother – it was Selena's mother's first Pokemon when she began her journey as a Pokemon trainer. It was given the name Toby and it didn't respond to anything but that. And it may have looked to be a pampered house pet, but Toby was a force to be reckoned with – he knew some powerful attacks that helped Selena's mother gain the upper hand in the Pokemon League during her days.

"Yeah?" Selena asked, her voice muffled from her hands which she held in front of her mouth on purpose.

"You should really head to bed if you don't want to be tired when you receive your starter Pokemon tomorrow," Selena's mother said as a small, warm smile spread across her face.

Selena grinned and, as she did, her eyes narrowed. "Hey, I can go to bed at midnight and wake up at five, and hardly be tired!" Selena retorted.

"Well, alright," her mother sighed with a slight shake of her head. "But please, at least, promise me you'll get at least a few hours of sleep?"

"I can't make any promises," Selena said slyly.

Her mother sighed. "Alright, honey," she said. "Good night." When Selena nodded, her mother took the door handle and closed the door as she backed up back into the hallway, leaving Selena alone in her room.

Selena turned her head back to the television, and for a few minutes she watched the continued match, before she bent down to grab her backpack which she had nestled at the ground next the television. She pulled it up on her lap and checked everything she had stuffed inside – a sleeping bag, a pillow, three pairs of changing clothes as well as a bathing suit, aspirin and band-aids, and a few more things considered equipment for her – how she got everything to fit in that backpack was beyond her.

She checked the front pocket of her bag, and out spilled at least twenty Pokéballs, which she had bought from the Pokemart in Viridian City the day before from the money in her last paycheck. She didn't know if she would have any use for these Pokéballs even, but she didn't even care. She spent $40 just on the Pokéballs and it was worth it.

With a yawn, Selena rested her bag back on the ground and got up from her seat, pulling her body over to her bed. She might as well… her clock was set for six in the morning – a good enough time to get her Pokemon at Professor Oak's lab.

Selena laid her head down on her zebra-striped pillow, which she was going to throw into her bag last minute because she couldn't sleep without it, before her eyes fluttered shut, throwing her into her dream world.

    ---

Selena woke up well before her alarm was scheduled to go off. Maybe it was the excitement, or her mind just wanted to pull her awake so she could get ready and get there before everyone else, who was anxious to get a Pokemon, would.

Selena pulled herself out of bed and quickly ran a brush through her wild hair, throwing that into her bag too. She pulled on her shoes, and then tossed her bag over one shoulder and hurried out into the hallway. That process only took her a few minutes.

Selena sped down the hallway of the upper level of her house until she reached the stairs, and then she, with heavy feet, stormed down the stairs as fast as she could and skidded to the front door.

    "Hold it, young lady!"

Selena blinked and pursed her lips, also pressing them into a thin line. Her green eyes swiveled and landed on a man standing behind her, arms crossed over his chest and a neutral expression across his face.

"You're not going to leave without saying good-bye, are you?" A grin spread across the man's face, and Selena turned around, an almost identical grin on hers. And then, her father embraced her in a hug.

"I'm going to miss you," her father whispered.

"I'm not going to be gone forever, ya' know," Selena whispered back, her voice holding the slightest hint of a chuckle. "You'll see me again soon."

"You better hope so, young lady," Selena's dad said with a wider grin as he pulled away from his daughter, his hands still on her shoulders. "You have to promise to call, alright? Just so your mom doesn't worry."

"You know I will," Selena said.

"Alright," her father said with a nod, stepping away, and then gesturing with a hand toward the door. "Go on. Have fun."

Selena smiled widely and turned her head to the door, reaching out for the doorknob. And as she pulled open the door, she looked back around at her father she really resembled – the bone structure, the sparkling emerald eyes, and that expression – it was unique to only them.

And then Selena hopped down onto the lawn, quickly breaking into a sprint, equipped with her running shoes, as her father shouted after her, "Don't forget to call, young lady!"

    ---

Selena was the first to arrive at Professor Oak's lab, which was settled on the top of a small hill, at least twenty cement steps led up to. Large iron gates surrounded the entrance and the property – all the property Professor Oak owned to look after the Pokemon from many of the trainers he gave starters too. One of two of Amanda's Pokemon resided here.

Selena was led into a large, spacious room by one of the Professor's assistants. A machine was hooked up in the middle of the room, a glass dome over the top of it. There were four, closed, metal holes in the container. Selena tilted her head to the side, and then leaned in to examine what could possibly be inside this container.

    "Selena, welcome!"

Selena turned her head toward the grayed Professor as he stepped into the room, accompanied by a little, brown Pokemon at his side. It had long, fox-like ears, and a very fluffy light brown mane around its neck. Selena recognized it as an Eevee.

Professor Oak lifted his hand to examine his watch. "You're early."

Selena shrugged with a grin. It was only five minutes to six… so early, eh, so he thought. "Early bird gets the worm, I guess." Selena chuckled.

"Haha, yes, well, I agree," Professor Oak said with a nod, walking up closer next to Selena, looking down at the container. "Well, inside this are the starters. You know them, correct?"

"Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle," Selena said with a nod.

"Good! Now, do you know which one you want to pick?" Professor Oak asked.

Selena looked up and she blinked. Crap! In the excitement, she had totally forgotten who she was going to pick! How could you forget something this important?!

Crap! Who was she going to pick? Which one was she going to pick? She had to remember now!

    CHAPTER TWO
"Any idea, Miss Selena?" Professor Oak asked, blinking. "I thought, maybe from you, you would have known which one you wanted days ago."

"I did," Selena whispered. "I just, forgot." Selena lowered her head in embarrassment, her eyes on the container.

"Well, that's alright, take your time," Professor Oak said with a nod. "In the meantime, would you like to see them?"

Selena looked up quickly, her eyes wide. "Oh, yes please," she said with a grin.

Professor Oak smiled and nodded once more, turning toward the container. He raised a hand and pressed a button on the side of the container. The glass dome on the container slid open, revealing three Pokéballs, each with specific writing on top.

    "In these are-"

    "Grandpa!"

Selena turned her head toward the door she had emerged from just minutes ago to see two more people had arrived. One was a girl and the other was a boy. The boy had haggard caramel brown hair and on his head was an expression of triumph. "I'm ready for my Pokemon!"

"Gary, you were the last to arrive, which means you get the last Pokemon," Professor Oak whispered. "Selena arrived first, so she gets first pick, and Miss Lore arrived second, so my assistant says, so she gets second pick."

Selena then was able to see the girl – taller than the boy, more close to Selena's age – the boy seemed to be ten years old, unlike Selena and this girl. The girl had long, dirty-blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes. Her name was Lore?

"Selena, do you remember what Pokemon you wanted?" Professor Oak asked and Selena turned back to him.

After a second, she grinned, her teeth gleaming under the lights. "Yes, I remember," she indeed did remember. After the arrival of these two people, Selena remembered almost immediately which Pokemon she wanted. She always wanted to be on time, and when she was on time, she usually got to pick her draw first. "I've decided," Selena outstretched her hand and scooped up a Pokéball, "I wanted to start with," and she held it close, "Charmander."

The Pokéball opened up and a ball of bright light flashed and jumped from the ball onto the front of the container. The Pokéball closed and the ball of white light quickly formed into the shape of a Pokemon. And then finally, the light disappeared, leaving a red-orange lizard standing on the container. But this Charmander looked slightly different from what she saw pictures of regular Charmanders. This Charmander's skin was slightly more yellow, and its eyes – instead of pale blue, were bright purple.

"Charmander," it said in a small voice. And after a blink of its eyes, it looked around.

Selena grinned, the edges of her smile stretching, seemingly, up to her ears. She had never been so happy in her life so far. This Charmander was far cuter than anything she had ever seen before.

"Alright, Lore, you're next," Professor Oak said, gesturing for the other girl to step forward. "You know the Pokemon you want to pick, right?"

The other girl nodded and stopped on Selena's right, looking down at the container. "I wanted to start with Bulbasaur." Lore, the girl, reached for the Pokéball with the green writing on it and when she did, another ball of white light shot out of the Pokéball and landed on the front of the container, and when it disappeared, a Bulbasaur appeared – but this Bulbasaur seemed different too. It was greener than its supposedly aqua-green skin. It took one look up at Lore and grinned.

"My turn," the ten-year-old boy selfishly spat as he made his way up to the container, snatching the last Pokéball. And the Pokemon that came out Selena recognized as a Squirtle.

"Alright you three," Professor Oak cleared his throat and stepped away from the container until he was at a different table where he took three little red devices in his hands. He handed one to Gary, one to Lore, and then one to Selena. "This is a Pokedex. It automatically records data on Pokemon you've seen or caught."

Selena examined the Pokedex, looking at all the little buttons and screws on it. And then, she looked up again as Professor Oak returned with a handful of tiny Pokéballs. He handed five to each of them.

"You should know what these are," he chuckled.

Selena nodded her head and carefully zipped the Pokéballs up with the others she had bought.

"Now, I want all three of you to realize how dangerous this world can be. Lore and Selena, I know you two know, but Gary, you are younger than these two, and you are not as level-headed," Professor Oak began.

Selena turned to look at Lore, her expression amused. Lore returned the same expression, smiling warmly.

"No, Grandpa, I'm so much better," Gary gloated.

Selena rolled her eyes and looked over at Charmander, who was lying down in the container with Squirtle and Bulbasaur. They must have grown up together, and now they were going separate paths. This must have been their last good-bye.

"I'm gonna go now, Grandpa! So many Pokemon to catch and so many things to see," Gary snickered, turning around and pulling up the Pokéball in his hand, Squirtle's Pokéball. "Return." A pink light shot out of the small button on the front of the Pokéball, recalling the Squirtle on the table. And then, Gary turned on his heel, and disappeared out of the hallway he came.

Wow, cocky little boy, Selena said to herself, before turning back to the container. Her Charmander was looking up to her with its big purple eye. She smiled. "Hey boy, you ready to go?"

The Charmander jumped to its feet, a ready grin spread across his face. "Char!" it said, raising a hand.

"Hey," Lore whispered and Selena turned her head to the other girl. Charmander, too, looked over at her. "Maybe Bubba and I can come along too?" Bubba? Lore nicknamed her Bulbasaur?

Selena smiled warmly. "Sure. I don't think Damon would mind either." Selena looked over to her Charmander. You're Damon now. And Charmander seemed to understand that was his new nickname because his purples eyes sparkled happily.

"Awesome, thanks," Lore said with a wider grin, scooting over to pick Bubba up in her arms.

And Selena did the same thing – moving over and scooping up Damon in her arms. The little Charmander nestled in and wrapped its warm arms around one of Selena's before laying its cheek against part of her upper arm. This was the start of a beautiful friendship.

    ---

"Gary's a character – a little selfish, cocky boy," Selena whispered, with a sneer, to Lore as the two girls walked down the path to Viridian City, successfully making it through the route with only four confrontations from wild Pokemon along the way. Each girl took two battles to train their new partner, who trailed along at their side.

"You can say that again," Lore chuckled.

Selena nodded her head and looked forward, finally welcomed by a nice view of the city. Uncle John and Aunt Sue will be so happy to see me. I can show them Damon, Selena said to herself.

"Come on," Selena nodded to Lore. "I know this city. We can stop by the Pokemon Center and head out to one of the outer routes by Victory Road to train."

Lore gave a polite nod and the two girls continued down the dirt path that quickly mixed and became a cement walkway.

They continued down until they stood in front of a large, white and red building, quickly recognizing it as the Pokemon Center. The front, automatic, doors slid open and a burst of cold air welcomed the two girls as they stepped inside.

"Hello," the two girls were greeted warmly by a pink-haired woman dressed in nurse clothes at the front desk. "I am Nurse Joy. May I help you with something?"

"Oh, yes," Selena blinked and nodded her head before looking down at Damon who stood at her feet, looking up at her. Selena bent down and picked Damon up under his tiny arms and placed him on the counter. "Could you heal my Charmander for me?"

"Char!" Damon snapped and stomped his foot, looking at Selena with an angry expression.

"Sorry," Selena whispered to Damon, before looking back up to Nurse Joy. "Can you heal Damon for me?"

"Of course," Nurse Joy nodded her head with a wide grin. She turned over to Lore. "And anything for you, young lady?"

Lore nodded her head and picked up Bubba, placing him next to Damon.

"Excellent," Nurse Joy said, also accepting the Pokeballs from Selena and Lore. "It will be about an hour or so. Please come back then."

Selena and Lore nodded their heads.

Selena turned to Lore as the two girls walked away from the counter. "I have a good idea to spend this hour," Selena began. "Maybe we can stop by my aunt and uncle's? They can offer some good tips for us as beginning trainers."

Lore turned to her. "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea," she said with a grin.

"Great," Selena said, her smile only growing wider. She really did like Lore – they seemed to have a lot in common. "They live about a block down. Come on, let's go."
