When making a game whose protagonist is new, with the player starting off, for instance, in Pallet town (Which has only Red's house, Rival's house and the lab), would you rather have the game with the original maps thus being forced to take red's place OR slightly edit the original maps in order to have Red's house, Rival's house, Player's house, New rival's house and finally the lab?

Of course those extra two houses would be useless and it's not like it makes any sense to start with as it's weird that so little people live in a town but considering Red and the rival are important characters, it might be nice, what do you guys think?

If the protagonist is from Pallet Town, unless he moved somewhere like Viridian City, it's common sense for him to have a house in Pallet Town(Rival included).

Add extra houses and have their houses filled with descendants, or even the mother of Red, and use it to share the lore and Legacy of the previous protagonist. Give the town a history through dialogue, not player memory.
