Other Chat rules too uptight?

    Disclaimer: I did not make this comment in retaliation of my recently locked thread. I just observed what is currently happening in Other Chat and reporting it as such.

    When I took a look at the first page of Other Chat threads, all the threads I see as valid in there are either Happy Birthday threads or any celebration of an event or holiday. 75% of the other threads were either locked or relocated. The only currently active valid threads are the Traditional Pair-up Thread, Member of the Month, and Daily Chit-Chat.

    Now, my first conclusion was that the members were a little rattled to make new threads after all this spamming, locking, and moving. That or there is nothing else to talk about. My second conclusion is that the rules in Other Chat are just too uptight. The newest threads, including mine, were found as spam and reported.

    My opinion is if Other Chat is meant for general conversation, shouldn't it be such, and allow people to talk (almost) whatever they want, instead of being literally a redistribution area to more subjective forums?

    Anyone care to shed some light to this?

    There are no rules for Other Chat..What do you mean.I think there should be.

    It's like... unwritten rules, I suppose. o_o; A code of conduct that you get the feel for by posting there a lot.

    I don't think the rules are too uptight. It just happens that recently there are a lot of things that needed to be closed/moved and a lot of the more popular members have had birthdays. o.o; It's normally not so cluttered. Mods just use their best judgement on what belongs and doesn't. Since it's basically the catch-all forum compared to all the others, it's sometimes hard to govern what belongs there... or people will miss the other forums all together (like we'll often get things in OC that belong in OE). Rules probably wouldn't help that part. o_O

    I see what point you are trying to make.. but with so many other fourms here, there is really limited things to talk about.. I mean stuff like school could be brought up in a thread.. but there is the Daily Chit-Chat thread for stuff like that, and most birthday threads are usually closed because there was already one made.

    Now if I like just screwed up your point and made no sence.. I'm sorry, as I am tired.. out of it.. and I haven't talked to my boyfriend today (well.. the last one has nothing to really do with it, other than making me bummed out =/)

    Edit: Yeah, all the stuff Lightning just said XD *wanted to feel smart for once and was outsmarted once again* XD

    I think we'd be better off without DCC. Generalised threads are bad for your health. o.o;

    And there aren't any OC rules, just mods. Take it up with the mods if you don't like how they moderate.

    Well, I can't. If they can all use the same judgement on threads, then there must be some sort of rule handed down to them, or that this forum is just plain dead, and they observed that everything that relates to this other subject should be relocated.

    It really looks like a totalitarian government in there.

    O.o;

    There may not be rules, but we need the mods to see what has a thread, what doesn't, what is inappropraite, what belongs to a different forum, ect.. OC may not have rules, but that doesn't mean it can mean there can be complete chaos there. The staff are there for a reason, not to take up space and to make us feel like we are all caged animales... (Wow.. feels weird speaking on the members side... o.o)

    So we have a definition problem, right?

    Should we risk tipping this balance and try to correct this situation, or let this delicate flow go on?

    Ahh.. something I forgot to mention in my last post *is too lazy to edit*

    I'm on the fence with the DCC thread... in a way it's annoying as it just gives you no room to wiggle in OC.. but it's good to have because the forum doesn't get so cluttered.. so I'll just stay out of that little argument =/

    Well a lot of the locked threads in OC is just threads that was done made or just pointless. They are all locked for a reason.

    Well we have the DCC for little things to talk about. Think about it, would any of you like a new thread started for someone saying "I got a hair cut today but they messed up on it and cut it too short -_-;;" or "Right now I am sooo sick, I got a cold."? Threads like that can go in the DCC.

    Ya, as Andy said, a lot of the time it's people not understanding what can be classed as a new thread, and what belongs in DCC.
    It may be worth making it more apparent in the OC rules ^^

    I think there should real rules for OC.I asked once.Is it a good idea.

    Hmm... well maybe not rules, just advice. =/ OC just needs to be told what it can make a thread about.
