Overtraining Starters

I don't tend to overtrain my starter, purely because I want to keep a balanced team, but there are times (like Gen III if I start with Torchic and need to evolve it and get double kick to beat the first gym) that I will overtrain them, and then get everyone else to catch up.

That is exactly what I did yesterday XD

my first games final team:
diamond
empoleon lv. 89
dialga lv. 62
mesprit lv. 69
staravia lv. 23
forgot the last

second game
emerald
swampert lv. 87
rayquaza lv. 100
houndoom lv. 40
HM SLAVE

HM SLAVE

third game
crystal
feraligatr lv. 43
lugia lv. 71
graveler lv. 23
suicune lv. 48
HM SLAVE
HM SLAVE

HG
feraligatr lv. 45
ho-oh lv. 63
>lv. 20 pokemon follow

SS (finally)
Typhlosion lv. 49
lugia lv. 49
togetic lv. 30
gyrados lv. 32
sudowoodo lv. 24
parasect lv. 38

now all of these pokemon are, of course lvs. 90-100

In HG i'm leveling my pokemon equily (sp) and my typhlosions actually probably my least fav. pokemon on my team, though I still love him. but my houndoom, and ho-oh are just better then him.

I only overleveled Pikachu in Yellow, other than that I don't care much for the starters at all really.
Except for my Ivysaur. That I leveled to lvl 100.

I tend to retire them.

When I first got Pokemon Blue all those years ago, I trained Squirtle to be a beast with all types of water and normal type moves like headbutt, but after I lost my first battle at the SS Anne, I realized that one strong pokemon wasn't the way to go, and then started to train the others, keeping everyone the same level and rotate the lead as they level up.

In Emerald I evolved Torchic before facing May for the first time. Talk about overtraining. ._.

I susally catch another pokemon and train them both together.

Like in SS i caught a Pidgey and a Caterpie.

My butterfree now is like level 57 whereas my starter is only like 54? xD

....I usually have two strong Pokemons only :/
I only train Pokemons when I've beaten the game and going for vs fights.
Also too evolve.
Or as I am doing now training for Red at SoulSilver.
I usually train my other Pokemons with EXP.share if I want (not for friendship)

On Sapphire I majorly overtrained my Swampert. He's level 100, whilst my next strongest is 59.... I learnt my lesson though. I have'nt overtrained since, my starter is generally one of the top levels-wise members of my team, but not more than 5 levels higher. I don't even use my starter in ruby. My Minun gets overtrained instead. :D
