Paying it Forward on the GTS

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this, but here goes:

I admit it: I dislike the Battle Frontier with a passion. The fact that I need to accumulate BP to get items necessary to evolution (Razor Claw & Razor Fang) irks me to no end. I thought I would take a chance on the GTS and try to get a Weavile. My offer? A UT Piplup holding an Occa berry.
The next day, I log on to find my trade went through...but not in the way I expected. Yes, I received my Weavile...but it was a Lv. 100, Shiny version. I was thrilled.
Now, I'm not naive. Is it some sort of hack, or just a clone? Most likely.
I probably should try and check its legitimacy...
This, however, is not the point. The fact that someone bothered to send me such a thing, above and beyond any of my expectations was a wonderful feeling (even if it was something trivial for them). This whole thing got me thinking:
Those of us who have been playing any of the games with the GTS should take it upon ourselves to go just a bit above and beyond what people ask for once in a while. Give someone a higher level than minimum. Offer something rare for something common. Throw in a useful item (or even some mail!). Catch something in a Luxury/Friend Ball. Heck, give them a shiny if you have extras.
This kind of thing will not only generate a big amount of goodwill, but will add to the fun of using the GTS. It will keep people coming back and trading (for things other than Lv. 100 Darkrais). Who knows...do something nice, and that person may find you on here and do a favor for you. Think about it.

FYI - The Weavile I received had these stats...
OT: ADRIAN, ID: 38512, Quiet nature & "Thoroughly Cunning", and it's stored in a Heal Ball.

I know I know...*sigh* That's why I'm pinning more hopes on the "Web Link" trade system being developed for B & W. Besides better quality trading, maybe they'll actually liberalize what you can ask for (if I haven't seen it, I can't ask for it? C'mon!)

The thread's discussion is very debatable in that while you can offer something valuable in return as a good deed for the trader on the other end, it's still a bit risky in that you don't know whether the Pokémon you receive in return will be legit or even worth the trade after. So, in the GTS you could do something favorable every once in awhile, but then you have to look at it in a fair sense of trade, because many offers and requests in the GTS can be highly unfair. Going there just a couple of days ago, I'd look for a common Pokémon, find it, yet see the user wants something way more in value. I won't downgrade the GTS as it's very beneficial to players, however if it was possible for GameFreak and Nintendo to make the system a bit more to equal trading standards then I'd suggest it.

With all the said, HG/SS isn't the only game with the GTS. DPPt has it too. Therefore moving this to General Pokémon Gaming where it can be discussed in a more wide variation.

@Hiiro: You certainly make some good points, and I absolutely agree that many (most?) of the posted trade offerings border on the ridiculous.

That being said, if I find someone who makes a reasonable offer to trade with (since it is so rare), I feel like I need to encourage it by sweetening the deal. Maybe my expectations are too low ^_^

I do tend to overdo it sometimes. But only when the trade's bordering on reasonable.

For example, I wanted a Kingdra. While due to Horsea and Seadra's availability, they're fairly common, Dragon Scales are hard to come by, so, when I found one, I was perfectly willing to trade my Raikou for it. You know, not going OTT, but it is worth doing something for them....

And if you have a lot of patience, you can get somewhere on the GTS....I bumped my pokedex from 150 to 218 using the GTS.

That would be nice, but most of the millions of 8 year olds are asking for something that the Server on GTS won't let you trade, like a Darkrai or a Shaymin. I'm sick of them offering a common poke and asking for something impossible to get w/o AR or a Pokemon that nobody would trade. I saw a Crobat that the OT wanted a Level 100 Palkia for.
I know most of them are wondering why their Poke isn't getting traded.
    They're just plain annoying. /rant

That's a really nice idea, and Pay it Forward is something I practice regularly on another game I use which also has a lot of ungrateful 8 year olds.

As some one who wants to start using the GTS, it's a little daunting. I know i don't have any pokemon that desirable. It would be nice to get some genuine help to get started

One thing that this site enables which lots of people appreciate is performing your own "daycare" service and training others' Pokemon for them. You can offer that in exchange for something you've been looking for. One thing that ALL of us can contribute, regardless of our collections, is time...and everyone appreciates cheap labor ^_^

    -_-
I once got a shiny Shinx for a Ditto I Migrated. Apperently it was met at level 35. Total crap. I have never offered or traded a hacked pokemon, yet for some reason, people think its funny that a Vulpix for a Growlithe isn't at all fair, unless you hack, of course.

PS Shinx/Ditto was before HG/SS, while Vulpix/Growlithe was on my SoulSilver.

i have stopped trying to trade on the gts. i was attemptig to use it to help complete my pokedex and every pokemon i search the OT wants some legendary for a level 1 pokemon. one that i was searching was a caterpie the results were a darkrai, palkia, or giratina. i would love to help out people sometimes but when everyone is being greedy its kinda hard to.

Does anyone else find it funny that GameFreak put so many options in for selecting a level of what you want, but completely left out things like nature, characteristics, and even held items? Who decided level was so important?

Real trades seem like trying to find a signal amidst a sea of noise. Well, I know some are out there.

Anyone else hopeful for the new system in B & W? I don't know too many details...
