Hello everyone, I'm sure that you'll notice that this issue is actually being released around the time I promised, strange eh? Well anyways I hope you enjoy our issue, despite it being somewhat shorter than previous entries.
~Yuoaman~
This issue there will only be one interview, but I'm sure that you'll enjoy it all the same because the person interviewed is none other than Houndoomed, the developer of the amazing project, Pokemon Scarlet Version.
HOUNDOOMED

HOUNDOOMED
Okay, thank you very much Houndoomed for this interview. Now onto the first question:
Why did you decide to use the existing characters of Lance and Claire for your game rather than creating new ones for your game?
Why did you decide to use the existing characters of Lance and Claire for your game rather than creating new ones for your game?
No sweat, glad to do it! Okay, the main reason we decided to use Lance and Clair is because we felt that creating new characters all the time was a bit boring. So we wanted to do something special. As you may know, Lance and Clair are both cousins, and both grow up to be Dragon Pokémon experts, and later on Lance beats Clair in a battle. Clair seems to be afraid of him after this, as it is her first time being defeated (excluding the ones after she just became a trainer, of course). So we thought this would be interesting to see in the game. So you start off with Lance and Clair being great buddies, but later they start to lose their trust with each other. It's all about expanding on their history when they were younger, to make a more exciting storyline. Of course, there will be many more storylines in the game, such as the kidnapping of Prof. Maple by Giovanni and the awakening of the legendary Pokémon, Atlantia. I don't want to give too much away though!
Thanks for the answer Houndoomed. Now: What was your favorite part of Pokemon Scarlet to make?
My favourite part? Hmm... I honestly love making everything for Scarlet. Adding all the custom stuff is really fun, especially all the new Pokémon. I like choosing what music is best for each town and stuff, as there are many games to choose music from. I also like coming up with the storyline, as I'm usually not very good with things like that. But when you are (were) in charge, you just can't stop all of the possibilites forming in your head. So I find that part very fun too, and exciting.
Mapping is also one of my favourite things to do, although I didn't make many maps for the first demo, and some of them weren't great. But I'm getting better, and I hope to improve some of the maps and make new ones for the next demo before I go :)
That's good to hear Houndoomed, now: Since announcing the move to DP style, have you received any more volunteers, or people to help you out?
Lorem Ipsum is doing pretty much all the scripting work, and he has implemented the new D/P tiles from Kyledove. So you're going to be playing with the D/P screen size in the next demo! Atomic_Reactor's also doing the D/P overworlds, which are turning out great! You're going to love them.
Right now I'm actually looking for someone who can do decent D/P trainer sprites for our existing characters. No luck so far, though D:
And our spriter, Sprite Killer, is making UNBELIEVABLE D/P style sprites for all of our Pokémon. With any luck, we might also have new sprites for the previous generations Pokémon, too!
So yeah, so far the move is working out quite nicely!
Houndoomed: What were your inspirations for Pokemon Scarlet?
Well, I guess always wanted to make a Pokémon game of my own. After I saw Acanthite for the first time a very long time ago, I guess I kind of got jealous of the sheer amount of talent there, and soon afterwards I made a forum called PokéOrg. The plan basically was to make a Pokémon game, but to have other little projects too. We didn't have much members then, so a few weeks later, after we had decided on the name, I opened a new forum for Pokémon Scarlet. That's where all of our members and most of our staff came from. I honestly never knew that it would be as popular as it is now.
But anyway, I'm going on about something else XD
Fakemon were also something that inspired me to make Pokémon Scarlet - I always wanted new Pokémon in my own game.
I also got inspiration from many other fangames; Pokémon Protectors and Iridium, just to name a few.
Oh, and not to forget Nintendo of course! I love you, Nintendo x x
(So... not me? XD)
Fake Pokémon is another thing - I'm surprised at the amount of games here with no Fakemon. I also think our sprites and Pokémon designs are quite a lot more advanced than many other fangames here. You can thank our wonderful Staff for that!
Houndoomed, what advice would you give for any aspiring Game Developers in the community?
I would say that if you want to make a game badly, then make one. It's a lot of fun, and makes a great hobby, but it takes a long time, and is a lot of work. So just be patient, and don't rush it. And never give up!
Remember to pay attention to all of the small things, and not just the big ones. Also, try inspiration. If a game gives you inspiration, then try to put some of that inspiration into your game, and it should make your game better, too!
This month we were planning on displaying several new screens of Scarlet in it's DP graphics glory... But if you are at all active in this section, you will know that Scarlet is on hiatus until Houndoomed can find a new developer to take over. I am sure you will all understand.
Hello all, it's me, Atomic_Reactor.
Some of you may have seen me around the forums.
Well, I hope so, I'm quite active ;_;
Anywho! This is my little section where I can
speak my mind. Well, here I go! :D
I've talked to some game makers while I've been
here, and I was kinda disappointed by what
they've said. Some say to me "I want my game to be the best!" "I want people to like mine" "I want more posts!"
... Why? Why exactly are you even making a game?
If all you want is popularity and to be the best, then that's kinda sad. If all you want to do is have the best game, then I can already guarantee failure. You should be making games for fun. And as something to do in your free time.
Not to beat out the competition! That's ridiculous.
I'm making my game just for the fun of it. I'm trying
to make it fun for everyone, but really, I just enjoy making it.
I'm not worried about other peoples games. Go ahead,
make a better game then mine. It's not going to affect me.
Heck, I've even offered to help out some of the better looking
games. I just like doing stuff like that. For the fun of it.
I'm going to end on these final words...
Get your mind on the right track, Stop being so damn competitive! It's much more enjoyable!
Thanks for reading. Message me or leave a post if you fell differently or want to talk about it more. ^_^

Anyways: What do you think makes your fan game unlike others showcased in the community?
It has to be the storyline, doesn't it? It's the only one I know on this forum (minus Acanthite) that is set in the past. At least twenty years, actually. Not many fangames here seem to use existing characters, either. They just make up come up with new ones.Fake Pokémon is another thing - I'm surprised at the amount of games here with no Fakemon. I also think our sprites and Pokémon designs are quite a lot more advanced than many other fangames here. You can thank our wonderful Staff for that!
