Is getting the perfect IV's on a pokemon really that important in competitive battling? When i was breeding snorlax's all i was really looking for was female's with a careful nature, then i started EV training. Is that good enough?

Not perfect IV's bet getting well IV's all round is good enough.

If you really want to do good in Competitive Battling/Tournaments, Then yes it is relivent. But however In-game, then all you have to have is the right Movesets. Unless you want to destroy your Opponents quickly In-Game. But that isn't really nessasarry. Flawless Hp and Speed are the Most important IV's to get however.

i really wanna vs people online, and can someone please tell me what a "good iv" is

Good/Flawless Iv's are when you get them in the Right Stats and they're Really High. Bad Iv's However, is when you get them in the Wrong Stats.

Realistically you want to be aiming for the 15 and above on each one.

I don't stop until i get flawless IVS in the necessary stats and descent in everything else but thats just me.

I]That's just me too, I like getting Flawless/High Iv's in the [correct stats. However, 15 isn't really a good Iv Number.[/I]

Iv's really save your team in a bad situtaion example 2 Salmence
IV's 31)Salamence 1 uses hydro pump! Opponent has 0 Hp left
IV's 22)Salmence 2 uses hydro pump! Opponent has 5 Hp Left Next Turn Opponent Kills Salmence

How can you tell if you have IV flawless, or otherwise?

Let's say your Snorlax has a 0 HP IV. That means it can have a max of 430 HP without EVs. But if it has a perfect 31 HP IV, It can have a max of 461 HP without any EVs.

So yes, an extra 31 to each stat does help quite a bit.

i noticed metal kids iv calc made u record ur pokemon's stats and ev's at each lvl until 10. is that necessary in getting the flawless iv's?

It's necessary for an accurate calculation.

Yes, good IVs are extremely important in competitive battling. Good IVs can have an almost as big- or bigger impact on stats as Natures can. I was too lazy to breed my Primeape for perfect Attack (it only has an IV of 28 it in it) and thanks to that it has left many Pokémon with just 1 HP; something those 3 extra Attack points could have taken care of. Usually you'll want to aim for 29 - 31 in the 3 most important stats (for example Attack, Speed and HP for Garchomp) and around 20 and up in the less important stats. For completely useless stats (such as Attack for Blissey) the IVs don't really matter, but anything that could make a difference should be high-ish.

Lemme ask something. My Pichu has these IV's in the stats I care about:

    Speed:26
    SP.A:22
    SP.D:23

    I shoud re breed, right?

I say that could make a alright pichu!
But, if i were you, i would re-bread again! Just keep going for good ones, the closest to 31 as you can go!
    Keep going mate!

Ugh. Fine, fine. I had one with perfect speed IV's, but poor sp.atk/sp.def. All that speed, wasted.

Eh. Pikachu needs 31 Speed IV just because of it's mediocre speed. Mine has a 31 Speed and 29 Sp. Atk.

Unless you're shooting for a Raichu, but either way I'd rebreed. I normally shoot for 1-2 Perfect IVs.

Yeah, Raichu's my fav. So I got some major breeding to do. How do I manipulate IV?
