Photograph of the ????

About the rules I would just like to say having no changes to the photo is not a great idea because resizing/scaling maybe important for those who have cameras that take very large pictures, so that I think is a definite exception, apart from that I don't agree with too many effects.

Maybe you guys should just have it so that all you can do is make color adjustments to the pictures. Oh and resize, like everyone else said...?

And you should put some size restrictions, because my camera's pictures end up being like, 10000 x 10000. :( Just incase there are big, blown up pictures for entries...

Let's start this in maybe a week or so? That can give us enough time to decide who will host it for the first time, who will make sure each canidate will fit the theme, etc.

Oh come on, Nobody's going to disallow re-sizing. T_T

Anyone will half a brain will know to be sensible with the resolution of their photos.

However I suggest that the image you post in the entry thread is also a link to the photo in it's original resolution, that's what I'll be doing.

That can give us enough time to decide who will host it for the first time, who will make sure each canidate will fit the theme, etc.
CT's hosting, and is till he decides to throw in the towel.

As for the editing front, I think you guys are being a little strict, simple editing and re-touching should be allowed IMO.

What if there are people with less than half a brain though? •﹏•
I don't think it'd hurt to just add it in there....

Mock First Entry Thread

PoTW #1 - [Insert Theme Here]
This is the first PoTw, good luck to every entrant from here on end.

Description:
[Insert theme discription here]

Rules:
  • Limit: one entry per person.
  • Your entry must be relevant to the current theme. Myself, and other members of the graphics community will be the judge of how well your entry relates, if ever it's relevancy should come into question.
  • Your entry cannot be edited (with any photo editing program) past a light amount of adjustment layers and of course cropping/resizing. Myself, and other members of the graphics community will be the judge of whether you have enhanced your photo too much, if ever it should come into question.
  • It is a requirement to post a link to the original picture before it was edited.
  • You may change your entry after you have submitted once. Only, of course, before the deadline.
  • You may not enter if you chose the theme.
  • All entries must be made during the PoTW time period. Previously made photos will be disqualified.

Good luck to all contestants, and please post any PoTW questions, feedback, etc in the PoTW Discussion Thread.

So this is obviously only a mock first entry thread, the rules really suck seeing as I basically copied the relevancy rule for the editing one...

Feedback is GREATLY appreciated, I'm sure you will all have lots (and hopefully fast). I wan't to get this thing rolling.

Maybe make it a requirement to post a link to both the original photo and to the enhanced one (only if you've enhanced it, of course)?

Great my brother took my camera for 2 weeks. Might have to borrow one. .o.

I might nab the D40 from school for a while, hope to get my own for college soon though.

Would it be okay if I use the photo I'll be taking for Gummy?

CT, is it alright if I take a picture and just invert the colours through MS Paint, or is that not allowed?

Shoot's all done. :]

Sepia/B&W etc allowed, yes?

Seeing as nothing is taken out or added to the picture, it should be acceptable. I wanted to take a picture of a garden, but the heavy rain killed EVERYTHING in my neighborhood. So yeah, took a few pics and now choosing which to enter.

So the only color adjustments allowed are B&W and Sepia? (Other than like, levels and curves and contrast and such)

Things like enhancers aren't allowed? (Selective Color, Hue/Saturation?)

I think its all about common sense. You can use Selective Color to strengthen a specific color, but I think it would be unfair to use it to completely change a color (for example, changing all the yellows in your picture to a vibrant magenta).

And with that, a suggestion for a new rule:

Colors can only be changed into colors of the same type, meaning cool colors can only be changed into other cool colors, and warm only into warm.
I'll leave it up to you guys to decide whether this is fair or not.

In other words, all color enhancements are out? Then I, and maybe Joe, will have to resubmit out entries.

If color enhancements are against the rules, then we might as well ban any type of editing done to an image other than resizing. Really nothing more basic about Photoshop than tampering with colors.

Disregard. xD

I... I think Comic Tragedy means more like, we can't go off with +100 Saturation, but if we want to brighten the colors a little, we can still use saturation? Because some cameras just don't take colors very well... [/mine being one of them]
