Photoshop CS qustion

Well, I got Photochop CS yesterday and I wonder two things:
1. How do you add the blinds?
2. How do you add a picture from the computer?

Blinds? *confused* XD.
Pictures.... there's a few ways.

1) "Open", then you look for the image you want.
2) Locate the image in explorer or something first, then open with photoshop.
3) Open in another software first, then copy and paste over.

But what about the blinds?

What do you mean by blinds? I think... I'm not familiar with that terminology.

*rolls eyes* open a new document, preferably 11x11 transparent. zoom in to it at 1600% (highest), and take out a pencil tool. make sure it's just one pixel wide, and brush at the top one, then skip a line, then brush the next line, and so on. grab your rectangular marquee tool, and select the whole image. go to Edit>Define Pattern and name it what you want. then, on the image you want the scanlines/blinds on, go to style options>pattern overlay>the one we just made>10% opacity. there you have it. x3

When I open a picture and want to remove the background, how do I do?

you take either an eraser or magic eraser on Anti Aliased, and erase everything except the pic o.o

Ish is being messy I know, but when you do a sprite, and want to remove the background, how do you do?
