If I look at photobucket it allows you to open an image by leaving the overview and loads a new page with contain the image. Even though it has a next/previous image, it loads new pages when you do that. If you want to go back to the overview a new page have to be loaded.
Not bad, but you can't really scroll through the images really quick because every time you go to the next/previous image an entire new page will be loaded.

Then there are Imageshack picture galleries. Clicking on the thumbnails will not open the image. It will just select the image. Selected images can be deleted/generate code for website/marked public/marked private. All fine and well, but what about opening the image? Each thumbnail has those tiny little buttons at the right. One of those tiny little buttons opens the image as a popup window which loads an entire new page. And it's not really possible to go back and forth through the gallery.
If Javascript for some (security) reason is disabled, the Imageshack gallery is completely crippled. You can switch to classic mode but that only has an overview of 15 images per page lined up vertically. Not very practical.

Photobucket and Imageshack provide great services, dont get me wrong.

As for my site. The fancy box you get to see when you open an image is built by Javascript. In case you didn't notice, it can jump back and forth back clicking on the left and right side of the image it is displaying. Clicking on "close" will bring you back to the overview. It even has supports keyboard strokes when you have an image open.
pressing n = next image
pressing p = previous image
pressing c = close displaying image and return to the overview
Because it is all Javascript the page doesn't have to be reloaded since we've never left the page to begin with. Although most people do have broadband these days, but there are still those who use dialup. Using this Javascript solution speed up the scrolling because it doesn't reload all the page all over every time when going back and forth. Only the image itself is being loaded.
So, what if the user has disabled Javascript? Well, the fancy box will stop appearing for one, but the thumbnails will still function as a hyperlink. So even if you use one of those prehistoric web-browsers (like links or lynx) my website will still function like it should.

Credits goes to someone called Visuddhi btw. (S)He made the original code for the box, I've made some small modifications to it for my site.

Okay, so much for my essay about website usability, back to you problem XD. I do see your point and I think I'll put a "save image" button next to the "close button". In the meantime images can be saved with one of the following methods:

Mozilla Firfox users
hover over the thumbnail and right-click. A context-menu will appear. Select "Save link as". This will save the large version to your harddisk.

Internet Explorer (all versions) users
Hover over the thumbnail and right-click. A context-menu will appear. Select "Save target as". This will save the large version to your harddisk.

Mozilla Firefox alternative method (should work in IE7 but I haven't tested it)
Hover over the thumbnail and middle-click (in most cases it means clicking with the scrollwheel of the mouse. Some may find it weird, but trust me, the scrollwheel is also a mouse button). This will open the image in a new tab.

Opera users:
I don't have Opera, but right-clicking + save target/link as should work too.
 
I need pictures from the episode forest grumps. I'd like any and all pics of Misty, James and Meowth, particualrly the nice little split screen where they're pointing in different directions.

It's not like I make them widescreen. The video source itself is widescreen. I never really understood why the US version of Pokemon movies are still being chopped down to 4:3.

Unless someone can donate me a time machine to travel to the future, I won't be able to make screencaps of "Buizel and Aipom, Respected Roads" before 15th November:D
