I've always trained a Pidgey when I got the chance, and Pidgeot's never left me down. Staraptor's not a bad coice either, but its the habit.

Starly is all-around better, Starly Ftw!

based on stats, which i use, and moveset, definatly starly.

when stsrly evolves into staraptor (i know, after staravia*) it can learn a fighting type move, close combat. and if you take starly-staraptor to the move tutor in the survival area, they can learn heatwave!

so, lets say my level 39 starly's moveset is:
heatwave
fly
brave bird
arial ace

(which it actually was in platinum)

it can beat:
grass
bug
fighting
ice
steel

and then when it evoled into staraptor and learned close combat (which it also did)

it could beat:
grass
bug
fighting
ice
steel
rock
dark
normal

so in my opinion, definatly starly.

As much as I like the Starly evolution tree, I'm old school.

Pidgey ftw. :D

P.S: Pidgeot can learn Steel Wing, which helps for Rock Types. ;)

I don't know. I like them both because they are good flying types but I have always liked the pidgey species because it was the very first flying type to ever come out in pokemon history. But Staraptor has a lot better moves in it's arsenal than Pidgeot does. Arrggh!!!!!! It makes my brain hurt trying to decide!!!!!

Hoot-hoot. Even though it's not one of the answers.

Between the two, though, Pidgey. Starly is just an unoriginal copy of Pidgey. Now don't go saying that Hoot-hoot is, because it is not.

Starly and it's evo's probably hold more power normally. However, I prefer Pidgey and it's evo's to Starly. I also bet that they can be just as powerful, if not more so, when raised correctly. Sure, Staravia has Close Combat (if one chooses to keep it in the move set), but it's not guaranteed to hit, and Pidgeot can learn some pretty awesome moves itself.

I'm more fond of Starly's stats and looks over Pidgey's.... Something about Pidgey and its evolution bothers me, but it makes up for it by being pretty useful if trained right.

Also, you can get Close Combat from one of the three, though its got its disadvantages I've had little to no problems using it.
