Hello everyone, I just got a new pikachu fresh from Pokemon Battle Revolution and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with EV training and so fourth.

    Nature: Hardy
    Level: 10
    Gender: Female
    Item: Light Ball

    Stats:
    HP: 27
    Attack: 18
    Defense: 13
    Sp. Attack: 15
    Sp. Defense: 14
    Speed: 25

    Moves:
    Volt Tackle
    Surf
    Open Moveslot
    Open Moveslot

    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

I'd play that game 123213 or however many times to get a Timid / Hasty / Naive Nature if I were you.

Those last 2 moveslots need Grass Knot and Hidden Power (Ice).

It's quite pointless really, to have volt tackle and surf. volt tackle is now a physical attack, so lightball wouldn't work. surf is nice but i don't see why anyone should go through the trouble of trying to get surf when it can easily learn grass knot with TM.

unless you use agility you want a nature that boosts its speed, since it needs to outspeed as many pokemon as it can.

    -substitute/encore/agility
    -nasty plot/agility
    -grass knot
    -tbolt

substitute helps set up nasty plot/agility nicely. substitute also helps it survive a dugtrio if it's put in the turn you sub up.

Light Ball Boosts Pikachu's Physical Attack in D/P Now. I've experimented with it.

i've heard about it but i'm skeptical. under description it still says "doubles pikachu's sp.att" if i recall correctly. anyhow, volt tackle is inferior because it doesn't get the boost from nasty plot. it's also nearly impossible to make pikachu good at both physcal and special sweeping even after lightball. I mean it's attack and sp.att are low enough as it is, if you distribute its ev's it's just not going to be good at anything. that's what i think anyway. i'm aware pikachu actually has slightly higher base att than sp.att but remember, it has nasty plot.

Surf is a great move for a Pikachu to have. What can be hurt with Grass Knot can be hurt with Surf

On another note, only Pichu learns Nasty Plot. Pikachu, on the other hand, doesn't. And it's not something you can get through the Move Tutor either after evolution. Therefore, Pika is trapped without Nasty Plot if it's from PBR.

Yikes, I got lost at the Physical and Special Attack. Can someone explain how that works?

Ehh, I'm not good with words but i'll try. A move can be either physical or special. A physical move relies on the pokemon's "attack" stat and a special move relies on the pokemon's "special attack" stat.

For example, Volt Tackle is a physical move, therefore it relies on pikachu's attack stat. Thunderbolt and grassknot are special moves and rely on pikachu's special attack stat.

This is only introduced in D/P. In the past, physical and special depend on the moves' elements(for example water, fire were special and fighting, ground were physical), but not anymore.

Yes, Pikachu can only learn Nasty Plot as pichu, that's why I was aginst getting Pikachu from Battle Revolution from the get-go.

    1. Volt Tackle being physical, as mentioned earlier
    2. Surf is not better than Grassknot which is easily obtaineable through TM
    3. Nasty Plot, one of the best moves around imho, can only be learned as pichu in D/P

he's basically saying it can't have surf if it has volt tackle/nasty plot.

    Pikachu @ Light Ball
    Hasty/Naive Nature
    212 SPD/192 SP ATK/104 ATK
    -Thunderbolt
    -Brick Break/Focus Punch
    -Surf
    -Substitute

the evolved version of this @ Expert Belt is better btw. why that so? though Pikachu's base sp atk and atk become 100, it doesn't get any other boosts other than STAB. Raichu, on the other hand, naturally has 90 base atk and sp atk. Expert Belt gives it an extra punch, boosting the attack damage by 20%, which results in a stronger hit. also, raichu has better speed and better OVERALL stats. it's at liberty to take in some hits if it must.

    Raichu @ Expert Belt

Ok, I think I'll go with that Raichu for now. I will have it use the same moveset as you suggested for the Pikachu but instead, could I replace Surf with Grass Knot?

well i'd personally go for surf. grass knot works just fine tho. mine actually is used as a special sweeper with Thunderbolt/Focus Blast/Grass Knot. from my esperience of battling with Raichu, grass knot rarely comes in handly, unlike focus blast.

Yeah, but I hate those water/ground types. However, people tend to use fire pokemon because of the fire/fighting combination. Ok, what should the EVs be in and what pokemon should I train against?

    Raichu
Item: Expert Belt (Where do I get that?)
    Hasty/Niave

    Surf/Grass Knot
    Brick Break
    Thunderbolt
    Brick Break/Focus Blast

you don't want to give it naive. it has 80 base sp defense, so it definitely has potential to absorb a thunderbolt or ice beam or shadow ball, etc.
