Name: Johnathan E. Turner
Pokemon species: Gallade
Gender: Male
Position: Gunner
Appearance: Generally, Johnathan looks like any other Gallade. His right arm and right arm-blade are smoky gray, a fairly common trait in Johnathan's lineage. Johnathan typically has cloth wrapped around his hands to help protect them. He has strong arms and legs and is about five feet tall (about a foot shorter than the average Blaziken). One thing that sets Johnathan apart is that enough of his tongue had been cut out to take away the ability to speak.
Personality:
Socially, Johnathan isn't all that great anymore, partly because he can't speak freely. He can communicate telepathically, though, since he's a Psychic. Johnathan won't talk this way freely and almost always keeps his thoughts to himself now. He'll use telepathy when necessary.
Johnathan will obey his captain's orders (usually, depending on the captain) and would be one of the last crew members to mutiny. He can behave himself if the situation calls for it, though he doesn't always. He usually doesn't care much about the weather, unless it hurts the cannons or something like that.
When it comes to cannons, Johnathan would be the one to ask. He knows just about everything there is to know about cannons. Johnathan has an eagle-eye, steady hands, and a calm head for aiming a cannon at something and more often than not hits his targets. His knowledge of swordsmanship is not as well known, partly due to his usual position of gunner.
Johnathan does have a weakness. He sometimes gets carried away during battle and needs to be stopped by someone else when it happens. Forcefully, at times. Johnathan also has a fierce hatred for one particular ship and crew: The Cursed Hydro.
History:
Johnathan was born into a sea-loving family, living in Slateport of Hoenn, that knew plenty about seafaring, cannons, honor, and swordsmanship. One of his older brothers, James, had left home to be a pirate when Johnathan was a little Ralts. Most of the family shunned James for this, but Johnathan began to wonder, as he grew older, just what the life of a pirate would be like. Besides, did James have another reason for leaving? Johnathan pondered on this question as he grew up, learning the specialties of the family (notably cannons and swordsmanship). He learned to speak telepathically while living in Slateport.
One day, when Johnathan was nearly ready to evolve from a Kirlia, Slateport was attacked by pirates led by a cruel Floatzel captain. Several residents of Slateport died. Several others were taken prisoner, Johnathan being one of them. While on the Floatzel's ship, Johnathan said one too many things, and the Floatzel captain ordered the Kirlia kicked off the ship. Johnathan was dumped in a rowboat with only a little fresh-water and a piece of crusty bread and left somewhere in the seas around Hoenn.
Johnathan was unconscious, sunburnt, and parched when his rowboat was found, somewhere between Slateport and Dewford, by a ship and a crew who'd been looking to capture the pirates. He was cared for as best as the crew could while they headed back to Slateport, where Johnathan received proper treatment.
Going back to his normal life wasn't enough. Johnathan wanted to strike back, though he wasn't sure why. So, in the middle of a cool summer night, he snuck into his family's storage and packed some seafaring essentials for leaving. While doing so, he came upon a light-blue stone that was hidden in a box. As Johnathan picked the stone up, he could feel the same kind of energy that he'd felt while evolving from a Ralts. It was a Gallade that left his home that night. Early the next morning, Johnathan found a ship, named Seeker, that was under the command of a reputed pirate-fighter. He signed up to be in the crew and received the position of gunner.
As the days passed and they chased pirates all the way to Johto, Johnathan learned more of what it meant to live at sea. He also gained a reputation as a proficient gunner who could sink many of his targets and learned several legends and tales, at least one of which concerned the Silver Chest.
When the Seeker caught up to the pirates they'd been chasing, Johnathan found that he had his shot at revenge: It was the Floatzel pirate captain. The sea-battle that erupted between the Seeker and the pirates was fierce; afterwards, Johnathan wasn't sure how many times he'd fired a cannon.
After the Floatzel pirate captain had been turned over to the authorities, Johnathan couldn't settle on land. He'd acquired a yearning to take to the sea. He stayed on the Seeker for several more months before it was boarded by pirates and he was pressganged into sailing under a pirate captain. Johnathan went through several more sea-battles and always ended up on the winners' ship.
A few months after being pressganged by pirates, Johnathan was rescued by James, his brother and one of the more respectable pirate captains around Johto. During the few months on board James' ship, he taught Johnathan more about sword-fighting.
James, too, was searching for the famed Silver Chest, and he literally lost his life in the search. The Cursed Hydro attacked and boarded James' ship. Johnathan was somehow forced into a position in which he had his tongue cut out. James was able to protect his younger brother from anything else and hid Johnathan before being killed himself.
If James' ship, which had been ruined beyond repair, hadn't been found by another ship, then Johnathan would've died of starvation or thirst. Or both. He was found and taken to New Bark Port, where he rested and recovered at an inn for a while. When Johnathan heard of a captain looking for a crew to search for the Silver Chest, he immediately made any seafaring preparations he could.
After all, as Johnathan had personally learned, if one searches for the Silver Chest, then one will eventually run into The Cursed Hydro. Revenge was on the mind.
