And if we can, make it a lot more obvious on how to hide them, because frankly this is ridiculous. This is how a subforum greets me at a maximized resolution:

    Spoiler:

I never feel the need to run Firefox maximized because most websites don't do something this blatantly offensive, and I am not fullscreening Firefox for this website but I'm sure even with fullscreen this would take up half of my available vertical space.

However, this isn't what I normally see. This is what clicking on a subforum looks like at my normal Firefox resolution:

    Spoiler:

The entire contents of the subforum are entirely hidden from me until I scroll down instead of allowing me to browse recent forum activity at a glance. This is bad design on every fundamental level.

So yeah, please do something about this. I can understand keeping these here for newer members but there needs to be an immediately obvious, permanent way to hide these like the news bulletins that get posted, or else your website just gives off this vibe:

    Spoiler:

We have decided against adding any form of toggle for Forum Splashes. The reasoning is that they are now an integral part of our community and a very useful manner for staff to communicate with members.

If you're concerned with vertical space however I recommend using a browser that doesn't abuse it, as yours is using about 130px of headroom due to toolbars, before it displays the webpage. I use Chrome, and it's currently using less half of that and my resolution is much taller than yours. So from a technical point of view: if you're interested in minimalism don't blame the website until you follow your own logic first.

Furthermore, your reasoning as to why this is "bad design" is quite subjective. Given that these Forum Splashes are actually a very popular addition to the forum I would say that you are in the minority in believing they are both "bad design" and "gaudy". We will be making an effort to ensure that Forum Splashes are of a reasonable size. If there was more of a backlash about Forum Splashes, it may manifest into us putting more parameters in place to rectify their issues.

So what if we give off the vibe that "graphic design is our passion"? This is a website after all.

    Thank you for your suggestion.
