Do they have effects in this game? What do the medicines do? Can you get EVs, and do IVs exist? Or is it all random?

Gender does nothing, except for Pokémon who evolve into certain Pokémon depending on Gender.

There aren't EV's/IV's in PMD last time I checked, and Like they would matter anyway, since in PMD games, you can eventually max everything out at 999 legitly through use of stat-boosting items .

So basically, there's potential to have a super-powered pre-evolution pokémon owning pokémon that should, in theory, be tougher than itself.
