Got a 3DS and itching to try out new features? Why not put its cameras and Augmented Reality features to good use - and fun? We want to see how your Pokémon look in the real world! That's the event in a nutshell.

As you can see, 3DS owners can now download Pokédex 3D. One of the features is the ability to take photos of Pokémon spliced into the real world using AR Markers! The possibilities with Augmented Reality are endless! You could pretty much mess around and make some awesome moments for us to see, in photograph form! Since it's free, why not take some time to access the eShop and download it? (Note to people unable to access the eShop for some reason - try changing your region settings. eShop only cares about the Region Settings in your 3DS, and nothing else.)

    The Snapshot Howto
    [/CSS-DIV][/CSS-DIV]
Don't know what to do with Pokédex 3D's photo function? Here, we'll help you to get started!
    1. Make sure that the Pokédex entry for the Pokémon you are trying to take a photo of exists in your app.
    2. Draw the AR marker on a sufficiently-sized grid paper -OR- Print the AR marker after making it on the PC.
    3. Place the AR marker somewhere on the scene you want to photograph.
    4. Enter the AR Viewer.
    5. Take photos!
    6. If you want to use a photo taken using this method as a background, keep in mind that the background photo is the first photo you take!

An extra: How to make images from another source to show up in the Nintendo 3DS!
StereoPhoto Maker (English) Download this first if you need to use imported photos from another source, mainly another camera. This links to the English version, by the way.

    1. Duplicate a photo that's not from the 3DS so that you'll have two photos.
    2. Put the two photos into the program using Load Left/Right Images, and let it export a MPO file out of them.
    3. Remember to click "For Nintendo 3DS" and resize to 640x480. Set quality to preference.
    4. The MPO file needs to be on the SD Card. It must reside in DCIM\the latest photo folder, with the filename HNI_0XXX.MPO, where XXX is a number from 001 to 100.
    5. Reinsert the SD Card into the 3DS, open Nintendo 3DS Camera, and attempt to view photos.
    6. Wait for a moment for the software to recognise the change, and give it a bit of time to refresh the view.
    7. BAM! There's your imported photo for use!

    The Real Rules
    [/CSS-DIV][/CSS-DIV]
Not following these rules may result in disqualification if the rules are still not being followed by the deadline.
    1. You can use any amount and combination of Pokémon. Feel free to abuse the Set Background feature to do more than 8-11 Pokémon on a scene!
    2. The photo has to spotlight at least one Pokémon.
    3. At least one Pokédex 3D model needs to be visible. If it's difficult to see, point it out in the post, or we'll reject your photo for irrevelancy!
    4. If you use a photo with another person or character in the scene, it CANNOT be the main focus. (e.g. If Zekrom, Mario and Kirby are in the same picture, Zekrom must be the main subject!)
    5. The background may be from any source.
    6. Don't take someone else's photo and claim it as your own.
    7. No image editing, other than brightness, contrast and levels adjustment is allowed for Categories A and B.
    8. Once you post once in the thread, if you want to change your submitted photo, please DO NOT post again - edit your old post instead. You may post to comment on other posts/photos, though.

I might as well post here so I can subscribe and stuff. <:

OKAY SO!! I think Pokémon 3DS Snap is a better way to go if we're going with that name. If not, something with 3DS in it at least since that is the main thing with the event!

Oh, is it not exclusive to 3DS?

Do we have judges or a poll (though that is open to people voting for their own and such, plus asking a whole group of friends and what not).

I'll have to have a really good think about it i think... HUM!

    Pokédex 3DSnap?

It's exclusive to 3DS, but that's not quite the point.

As for judges or a poll... That, we'll need to determine. Will it be a public poll? Will it be judged behind the scenes? Do we need additional judges?

    Haha very clever!

    Let's see...

    Pokédex 3DSNAP! (?)
    Maybe Pokédex3DS SNAP ? d:

Okay, so since it's 3DS exclusive, i don't think over the top photoshopping should be allowed. Only filters that alter colour, contrast and saturation and even then it shouldn't be over the top. Otherwise, it kind of takes of finding a situation and sticking a pokemon into it. d:

about the voting... yeah, i think maybe if there are judges, either us organisers or... yeah, a public poll might not be a good idea. either that, or we can choose some judges!

Keep in mind that, as hosts, we can judge.

OK. Let's see... we'll allow usage of any background for Set Background. OK?

Yep, yep, sure, that sounds fine!

How would we judge them on? Colour? photography? creativity? a combination of the three? is there a theme?

I'm thinking of separate categories. One for quick shots, one for simple background-setting only without further edits, and one for MAXIMUM ENHANCEMENTS.

Okay, like a beginner, intimidate and advanced category? I think it would be quite funny if we had a candid category hahaha. Because the only way to take photos would be to plan them d:

Okay, so how would we go with the winners? First, second, third, runners up? Or immediate winner of each category? Personally, I think a one winner with two runner ups is a good way to go.

I also have a question! How do winners go about? Like uh, is it bragging rights kind of deal or do we have to make an emblem? I've never participated in nor hosted an event before so... Yeah d: . Do you know?

Hmm... Actually, I'm thinking of categories for skills needed.

One of them will be for those that just have the AR marker and nothing else. Not even Set Background can be used. You'll be taking the photo right away.

The second one allows Set Background, and also allows for layering with multiple images. However, no image editing after final capturing is allowed.

The third one? Advanced camera tricks, Photoshop all the way to and from the... well, you know the rest.

As for the winners? Let's see... If we go with a "Best of the Day" selection, maybe we'll pick the top 3 every day. Or we'll accept all entries, and pick the top 10. All submissions will eventually come up after the results come out. We'll need 3 days to tally up submissions.

No public voting right now, though.

Just bragging rights isn't going to do much. Do you think you have what it takes to make a brand new emblem? Or should we commission someone to make one?

Haha photoshop is one of my specialties! Making an emblem should be a piece of cake! I could make one now if I was on my desktop! Or make a few dozen! d:

We could do both with the best of the day and the best of the three? OR maybe the catagories could be set as such! I mean, we could pick a best of the day for the normal and set background and the best of the three days for the photoshop wiz one.

I think the judges should just be us, don't you think?

It depends on how many submissions we'll end up getting. Remember, we don't have too many days after the event ends to judge - we should wrap it up within a week, preferable shorter.

yep yep yep then we should probably cut the daily and just have an end result. i'll see if i can compile some images i can make an emblem with!

1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, participant. OK?

    yep yep! sure d:

i would take some pictures of my own 3DS but unfortunately my camera kind of sucks.

should we have some of our own images as a example? like, an image for the first category, an image for the second, etc?

I'll be doing the example images.

Online pictures of the 3DS (high res just in case). That might work. Any colour is OK.

Yeah, I hate low quality. Found a fair few, I'll be having a play around!

oh, are you using just 1. 2. for the lists or are you actually using list tags?

I'm thinking of cleaning up the tags.

I think the centered lists kind of... it looks really funny since the numbers aren't aligned. If only the tab function worked in these text boxes!

Maybe just the top title should be centered?

How does the first post look now?

Also, what do you think I should add into the first post?

    Good! much neater!! <:

um, do we add a link to a full list of AR markers?

I'm fiddling with the participation emblem. its hard working with such a small canvas (80x80) d: i'm trying to get these guys on the right angle, but its ... hmm.
