Pokémon Anime Ideas & Suggestions Thread

I know the title can seem like I'm asking for ideas and suggestion to make for the Pokémon anime, but really I'm not. XD; Although, I'm sure there are tons of ideas for that. Truthfully, I'm interested in hearing some suggestions that you all have to help make this section better - both activity wise and event wise.

I've had this itch behind my head for a few weeks now back when I was modding here and even before, but this section really deserves more activity than it has. While I know it won't happen overnight, it won't happen if we don't try. So, overtime I have been brainstorming some ways to bring in activity and bring in some new ideas to this section. Something more than just discussing anime episodes, shipping debates, and miscellaneous discussions.

First off, I'll start with the threads being made here. While the miscellaneous discussion is nice, it never lasts long enough. Either it goes ignored or it gains a few posts and then dies. Honestly, that's not what people would like to see in a forum - and I'd assume it applies more to those who do enjoy discussing the anime that they'd like to discuss more about it if we have people contributing to thread discussion. Don't be afraid to discuss. I think for the best of this section, it'd be great if people can [both active and nonactive here] create some well thought out discussion threads and posts that can last for long periods of time. Also, some voting polls added in is a cool twist on things too. Just looking for threads that won't die as easily.

Which brings up an idea I had earlier this year. A sticky for simple anime questions. While it may not be the most active of threads since questions only come around now and then, it'd still keep the bottom forum free from clutter and not make it look so messy. Not to mention, if we gain those great discussion threads I'm hoping for, then, well it'll just be better. XD; So, just a thought I'm throwing out there.

Moving on from thread discussion, I've also come up with weekly/monthly events that we can hold here. Some may just be for fun, while others can come with reward. Anyway, some ideas I've thought up so far are:
[jq]Pokémon Idol: That's right folks. Whether you sing well or bad, it's always fun holding a contest based around singing. More so singing your favorite Pokémon theme song. This is one idea I've had for this long while now. Pretty self explanatory, but if held, a winner and participants will be given an emblem.

Write an Episode: Pretty self explanatory, but another event I thought up was one revolving writing your own episode. It would involve more than just your own episode summary, but if held I'll work out details on this event to better explain how it'll work. Again, an emblem will be handed our for winner and participants.

Snap Shot: Like the one held in the PC Get-Together this year, I'd think holding another one here would be fun for everyone. It'd be a bit different, but basically the same. Like the above two contests, emblems will be given for this as well.

Character of the Month: Just a thought, but hosting a character off the show as "Character of the Month" would be a pretty neat idea. We'd have possible candidates suggested by you, then later voting, and then later discussion (good discussion). Just a way to reminisce on old characters as well as the new. Though, with your help, I'm sure we can work on this idea better.

Trainer vs. Pokémon: So I got this from another site, but every week we can hold a Trainer vs. Pokémon discussion thread on which you prefer the most between the two. Kind of like Pokémon vs. Pokémon in Pokémon General, but this time more fitting for this section here.

Movie Night: Like in the PC Get-Together and something I've done a couple of times with a few friends, but we can have a group night together watching Pokémon episodes or movies while discussing it together in an MSN group conversation. Something that's always fun and a good way to make new friends and just get to know one another better about the Pokémon Anime.[/jq]As for events to be held, that's all I have so far. I'm hoping you guys can share more ideas though, hence this thread. Still, I'd also like your inputs and ideas as well on what I've said, and what you have to say. I'll have this open for a week or two, and take in what's been said during that time and put it into action.

Well, I had a great idea for an event in the PC GTG-7, but I wasn't able to present it there. I had been thinking of making a Pokemon Anime Crossword. Questions would be asked from the Pokemon Movies and Episodes. It would be really fun because a lot of people might want to participate in such a contest and there would be quite some winners as well. Everyone wants to win. XD;

I'm completely for the Anime Quick Questions Thread. Although there aren't exactly much of those threads anymore, it helps a bit.

As for events, I'm honestly not sure. The snap-shot thing sounds cool for the episode of a week/month, but that can make us sound hypocrite about the linking to external episodes rule with the wrong minds that's basically telling the members to find illegal content and snap a picture of it. Then again, the ROM Hacking section is basically the same thing. Find illegal content and hack it up for the lulz. Risking a SWAT team raids your house and takes away your computer and your family. Right... But it wouldn't be a bad idea for me to help out on it.

As for activity, the fact I barely noticed this thread goes to show... So then, for that I propose that we set up more generalized sticky threads. For we have Shipping Debates, let's have a general Movie Discussion sticky. An Anime Wishlist sticky. And so on. Leave the "What if" and "Do you" threads for the general section. In fact, I feel like those kinds of threads should be encouraged. I'm just brainstorming though. I'm more eager for the Monthly Snap Contest.

Also, not an episode picture thread, but a fan art thread. Most of it will be shippy or comedic fan art, but whatever. We need that.

It can be done in a legal way as well. There are sites like Livejournal or even Serebii and Pokestation that have a pretty nice collection of episode screen shots. It isn't necessarily about trying to find episodes illegally on the internet.

Everything can be basically found in that video site we all know. It's a no brainer that people will look there for the videos to take screen caps of. Just like it's a no brainer that people in the ROM hacking section search in Google for their needs. The rules enforced in the community are simple restrictions on hyperlinks to websites providing illegal content. I'm not worried about SWAT teams raiding the server because of this, I'm worried about members thinking wrong about what we believe if we promote such contest.

PC doesn't like it because they can get into trouble for having illegal episodes linked on their site, not because of having some moral high ground.

I like the idea of a fanart thread, though :D I usually can only post them in shipping debates XD I think it would have to be somewhat organised, though...can people just dump random stuff off there, categorise them and say what characters are in the pictures, would it have to link back to the artist, stuff like that.

I don't want millions of stickies, though. It looks cluttered and people ignore them more than normal threads, for some reason >_>

The idea of a "movie night" on MSN seems adorable :3

I agree with a little Q&A thread. The spin off Q&A isn't used that much, but it really did help with clutter in that section. :)

There could be someone that would make a weekly newsletter regarding the anime and news about the anime such as new episodes, episode reviews and for movies as well.

While that is a cool idea, it basically falls along the episode discussion threads we have. So, it wouldn't fill in much purpose. :\ Plus, when a movie rolls along, a thread based on that for speculation and then later discussion is brought up to follow. So, in a way we have this already implemented, just not as a newsletter.

Also, I'm taking in all ideas brought up so far, and honestly? I'm liking what I see so far. From the crossword to the Fan Art thread, etc. So hopefully over the next week or two we can have more discussion upon these ideas brought up along with new ones to figure how we'd like to order it. So after, I can begin to implement them.

A main concern of mines is organization and ongoing discussion in this section. So, if we can work with that as well, then everything will come in together just as easily.

Although, I have gotten a little tad thing. How about a sticky to the link to all episode discussions? Taking advantage that all of them bypass the 30 day rule. Even if they're probably from 2003 >__> I do think it'd be hard to compile 650 episodes in 140 pages of madness though. But that's one thing worth for organization.

In short, just threads to keep away miscellaneous clutter such as questions, and such. For instance, a Question Thread, and a thread for Fan Art, and arc discussion threads which was posted in the rules already. Along with a set kind of title for episode threads which is also mentioned in the rules.

However, are you referring to an index thread? I mean it's hard to really go searching for all the old discussion threads especially since they aren't revived that much either. But if wanted, I wouldn't mind starting an idea like that for the Best Wishes series. Since they're starting fresh, why not us right? XD; Actually, I like that idea. It'll make finding episode discussion threads a lot easier too.

Although, there would be a need for two different indexes. Both Japanese episodes and Dubbed episodes. Neither of which would be hard to keep up with.

The Index would go into a second/third page in the rules. Second page being for the Dubbed titles, linked to their respective thread and the third being made for the Japanese episodes with the same procedure. (Second being Dub and third being Japanese, to avoid spoilers for those who just want to see the Dubbed titles and not Japanese).

This also brings to my attention that once we get started on the B&W Dubbed Index, we should scrap the idea of an Upcoming Titles thread. Honestly, not much discussion comes from this anymore and it's relatively ignored. I could just update the Index with upcoming titles and later link them to their thread once the episode is aired. The title itself can be commented on in their respective thread later.

FAQ/Q&A will definitely come to existence sometime soon and I'll start working on the Index for Best Wishes.

The Snapshot Contest will come later though. Once we get things in order, then we can bring in the idea of weekly/monthly events and such. I'm more so looking for various ideas we can have right now for the near future.

I would die if I had to host them all by myself. Plus, it's no fun to those who do want to host them. So, I'll definitely let members partake in handling some events, while I handle others as well. I'll just make sure that who ever holds the event of that month run through the first post layout and how they want to do things with me first.

Keeping this alive, just letting you guys know that the Episode Index idea has been put into play within the Rules & Procedures like said. Once the DP saga is finished for the dubbed episodes and we start hearing about BW dubbed titles, there will be no Upcoming Dubbed Titles thread anymore. All titles will be placed within the index and the title itself can be discussed once the episode is aired in the review threads.

I'll work on the Q&A soon and have it up hopefully be next week, but till then, feel free to PM me some basic knowledge FAQs that you think should fit into it so I can put them into the Q&A Thread's first post.

Anyway, I don't really care about the "Pokémon Idol" thing even though I approved it when you asked and you never went along with it for some reason. The "Write of Episode" contest is something that sounds interesting. I'd never participate in it but it sounds very interesting either way since things revolving around "What would you do?" situations are always popular topics. I can honestly say I don't give a **** about any of the other things suggested. Except for maybe the fan art thing. That seems fun too since people could on each others works. Maybe I'd post some of my stuff in that thread.

I'd also like to say that everyone who's posted in this thread either doesn't post often in this forum or they don't help generate discussion at all. Honestly, you people go on about how this section deserves more activity when none of you are all that active yourselves. You either post your opinions in one post and leave or you'll never try and generate anything past your initial reaction to the news or a post that seems outlandish. You guys almost never create threads that aren't episode discussions either. You guys tell people not to be afraid to discuss so I don't understand why you guys don't discuss things since you guys shouldn't be afraid either. Really, it gets tiresome for me to have to post in almost every thread since no one is going to answer a question, to post information like dub titles, ratings, animé information, and schedule updates knowing that it's likely no one is going to try and debate or talk about what I post or anyone who posts that stuff.

Like in the Movie 13 or 14 thread. Whichever one it is. I always have to answer questions and posts dates and stuff since none of you people do that either. I have to update the dub titles thing too since no one wants to have to look for anything that pops out. I try to start debates with people but it's either called "Trolling" or no one is interested to try and have some kind of discussion.

You guys can try and have contests and organize the forum more all you want, which is cool and all since people like having fun and stuff and there's nothing wrong with that, but if you guys don't discuss anything with people then I don't know why you guys are even trying in the first place.

By the way Hiiro, you forgot to move "With the Easiest of Grace!" to the new sub-forum.

e: Oh, and some of you can say that I'm taking this way too seriously but I don't care. It gets annoying to have people whine about something that they themselves do and to have to continuously do stuff that people won't care about for the sake of "Being up to date" for at least 2 years already.

...And as much as we may not get along at times, I agree with this 100%. If I'm going to try and bring up the activity in this section, it just can't happen by organization and events alone. I need the help from all those active here and all those new here as well. There's always been some kind of hesitation in discussion here, and I'm not sure why. ): You don't need to post in a thread once and leave it. There's always something more to say and add onto what someone else may say. And it shouldn't be discouraged that you do so, because all of that takes part in valued discussion.

Debate threads, I'm not against them anymore. I find that sometimes you get the best out of members in certain debate threads. However, I'm not going to sit back and let it get out of control either. You've got to contain yourself in a debate thread, and if you can do that, then I'm all open for them to start coming in here now that the main board it solely for anime discussion. It's part of the reason why the new sub-forum was made in the first place.

I want to make a Q&A this week, but I don't want to see just Vernikova or myself answering all the questions. Truthfully that's just sad. That's like Unown_ who had to do all the picture requests for people. We're a community, we take part in things together, so if someone has a question, don't ignore the thread, go into it and try to help. If you see something that doesn't belong, don't ignore it, report it.

Listen to her. I complimented her a few days ago because she's one of the few people actually trying to make activity in this section again with new threads and continuously going back to threads replying with her opinions. It's something I'm hoping all those who come here can do now. Take part in all of the ongoing discussions. Don't be afraid to post, because there's nothing to be afraid of. ):

Sad part, an easy thread like the Upcoming Dubbed Titles where all you have to do is comment about the new titles didn't even have much life. It just sat there collecting dust. Which is why it's no gone and we have an Index in its place. So, if you want to talk about the title you can do it in the review threads.

So, listen to this and do it if you're really interested in making this a better section. It isn't for me, but for those who enjoy discussing the anime which are you guys. Learn about the forum more, dig into things that you find interesting here, remedy on the older series now that we have official threads for them in the new sub-forum, take part and have fun. Don't let it go to waste or else what's the sense of even having this section around if you yourself won't take part in it like we want you to.

And I don't know if it came out this way, but I'm not saying you should feel forced. I wouldn't want to be forced to post, so I wouldn't want you guys to feel forced either. I just hope we can build up activity in discussions together.
