Pokémon Broken Spirits is a Gen 3-styled fangame made in RPG Maker XP with Pokémon Essentials which follows the protagonist in a character-driven story through a fleshed out alternate Pokémon world. Instead of chasing gyms, the player's journey more closely resembles that of traditional RPGs.
Story
The story revolves around the protagonist dealing with confrontations of belief, as they're motivated by loss and grief to explore the region of Ohola and learns to question the religion they have been raised with. Soon the protagonist stumbles into an archaeological excavation with the goal of uncovering the secrets of a temple built by a civilization that was destroyed for worshiping Giratina. But is Giratina truly the devil it was made out to be? Did humanity make an error by shunning it? And how will the player cope with the consequences of going against the status-quo to find answers to these questions?
My hope is to provide the answers in an interesting and engaging way, but this is not where the story is going to end. I've thought it through from start to finish, meaning I know how I want it to end and which major plot points I want to include on the way. But I can't do everything on my own. I need people who are interested in helping me realize my plans and who are willing to discuss and develop their own ideas to finish this game with me. I don't have many new features planned, but I do hope that players will appreciate the journey for what it is.
I'm looking for:
- Tile artists: I need a lot of tiles to create "normal", grounded areas but also a completely reimagined Distortion World.
- Spriters: Most of my trainers don't have battle sprites yet. Same goes for many characters in the overworld.
- Scripters: I have several small tasks, but also some more challenging ones like an item crafting feature (there is such a plugin, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to use it for my purposes). It's possible my ideas are too whack/too difficult to implement, and so I'm very much open to develop those features with you.
- Map design assistance: I like mapping, because it helps me design events and design them around the limitations of RPGMaker. But some areas, especially urban areas, are very difficult for me to make. I could also use help with routes, caves, etc. Really interesting will be the redesign of the Distortion World, which I will definitely need help with.
- Pokémon from Gen 1-8
- 2 regions (Ohola and the Distortion World)
- 2 difficulty modes: Normal and Hard
- Hand-picked songs from many different artists to create a unique soundtrack
- Item crafting system
- Small stuff like additional uses for field effect moves like Cut and Rock Smash, and berries
