    [PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon Clef

    -------------------------------

This is the development thread for Pokémon Clef (which was previously a project of mine that I renamed - Pokémon Alexandrite). Now that the progress of Pokémon Clef has surpassed that of the original game, I have decided to completely override Pokémon Alexandrite and replace it with Pokémon Clef. Most of the features I planned to include are still there, but greatly improved.

Thanks for your interest in my game, and I hope to exceed your expectations.

    ---------------

You (the player) have been relocated to live with your grandparents in the Hymnovi region after a huge blizzard hit the entirety of the Sinnoh region (including your home). Whilst your parents stayed behind to help with relief efforts, your grandparents agreed to allow you to live with them for the time being. Their little town of DaCapo is a lot different than the rest of the region though, with rumors of religious cults spreading fast. You decide to leave on an adventure out of curiosity.

Your grandparents send you off half-heartedly, hoping that as long as you have Pokémon by your side, you will be safe.

Something dark is rising in the Hymnovi region...

Set out on an all-new adventure and discover the mysteries that this region holds in it's clutched hands!

Completed features will be crossed out. Some features will have a ratio next to them for progress tracking.

    • Over thirty new and exciting locations for you to discover and explore! (2/30+)
    • Brand new player characters!
    • Inclusion of all Pokémon up to generation five (5)!
    • Interesting and well thought out story!
    • Menacing and thoroughly evil bad guys!
    • Improved graphics over the default ones included in Pokémon Essentials!
    • Remastered soundtrack!
    • Challenging battles (trainer, rival, gym leader, elite four, and champion)!
    • POSSIBLE new Unknown forms!
    • And more...

UPDATE: As of 6/12/2014, I am beginning to edit the music I will be using for Clef alongside mapping. These will more or less be re-done themes and battle music from D/P/Pt and B/W/B2/W2 (with maybe some original sound effects). I'm just taking the old and making it sorta-new. Will be adding download links and such very soon.

The only person on the development team currently is me.

If you have any interest in being a part of the crew, PM me/reply to this thread and I'll give you some more information. There's lots to be done here, and I'd appreciate any help.

At the moment, I have not mapped enough out to shown any screenies that will be worthy of your eyes. However, I'll put some in-dev snips below. Please note that I am very early in the development stage, so your expectations shouldn't be too high as of right now.

A demo will be available for download shortly. I will try to keep the demos up-to-date with the current progress of Pokémon Clef the best I can.

Any questions, concerns, bugs, or suggestions can be sent to me via this forum post or via PM. I will help to the best of my abilities.

Or, if you meant support as in "supporting the cause", then a signature banner preview is shown below with the code in the spoiler. The actual code links the image to this forum post, while the preview does not (that'd be repetitive in my opinion). A smaller support button will be available shortly (for those who do not have enough space in their signatures).

Bumping the thread because I've changed a whole lot to my game's development. All of the detailed information is above.

    Thanks for staying tuned!

Your maps are very rough, but they aren't bad - It's a good start, but it needs some more work. Both are very empty and not interesting - although that island is interesting it isn't enough to make the whole "bridge" worth it. Your starting town isn't bad, but it's very square and doesn't have a lot going on, mainly because it has a lot of open space, making it larger than a simple town even though it is a very simple town.

I'm going to fill DaCapo town with more interesting things (like people and Pokémon) after I finish mapping out roughly half of the game. Everything is subject to change, anyway.

Also, the bridge. It's going to be a part of a cutscene where your grandparents send you off, giving it a bit of worth to the location.

Both of these areas aren't really meant to be "exciting". They are but simple starting areas. Also, if you have any additions that are noteworthy, I would be happy to hear them.

Well, this seems interesting. I've always preferred fanmade games similar to the cannon ones than games with horribly complicated stories that end up having little to do with Pokemon. I really enjoy adventuring through a new region and discovering its secrets, interesting locations, interesting people, etc. etc. Can't wait to see how Hymnovi looks like :)

However, I have to agree with Saving Raven about DaCapo town. Simply fixing the tree pattern to not look square, making the dirtroads a bit crooked and adding details like flowers will do wonders to your maps. But of course, the look of the map is a matter of opinion, so if you prefer it like this, who am I to say anything xD
Let me just point out that the hill around the top-left house (I'm guessing the grandparents' house) is missing the upper edge. You might want to fix that.

So, who gives the player their first Pokemon? Does the player choose between a number of starters or is it always the same?

I agree. It's less complex than most games out there, but can be very interesting, especially if there's a good storyline. I hope to surpass your expectations of Hymnovi.

DaCapo town has been changed to be less square (I updated its screenshot). I tried to make it less generic. I also fixed the hill error (which now has a shrine resting upon it) as well.

The player is given their first Pokémon during a conflict with the game's baddies in Maestro town by Professor Pine. I'm still deciding between unconventional starters that still have the old fire, water, grass typings or just giving them an Eevee and a choice of the fire, water, and leaf stones.

Oh, what's in the shrine? Is it going to be important later in the game? Will it be involved in a sidequest, or main quest?

The Eevee thing isn't a bad idea, but the Leaf Stone doesn't make Eevee evolve into Leafeon. It needs to be leveled up near the Moss Rock. Or will you change the required method of evolution?

More likely a post-game side quest than anything to do with the main story.

I was thinking of changing it. It would be rather difficult to ensure the player knows where the Moss Rock is, remembers its location, and doesn't have to back-track too much in order to reach it.

Sorry for the lack of updates, my hard drive crashed once again and I lost everything except the previously uploaded music. Will begin restoring everything Monday.
