I just spent three hours writing this thread, and just as I was about to finish my browser crashed. I should be asleep right now, but I don't care. I want to share this.
Now, hopefully this time instead of crashing I can actually get this posted...
Pokémon Desolate version takes place in the Volora region. In this thread I will go through the following:
- In-depth story of the opening scene.
- Pokémon League
- Pokémon
- Features
Quick note: This is not set in stone. I do not know how to script or anything. I have never hacked a game before so I have absolutely zero experience. This game may not ever happen unless I learn how to hack - which may take a long time - or if someone who already knows how to hack thinks my idea is pretty cool and wants to take it upon themselves. If you - the person reading this - know how to make a Pokémon hack from scratch like this, be my guest to use these ideas.
So with that being said, let's get into it!
Storyline teaser.
Take note that Darkrai is the legendary mascot of this game.
The game starts off with a flashback, traveling back in time to when the player was a child.
You and your mother are in the garden just down the road from Azure Square, the home of the player. Upon realising that some needed gardening tools were forgotten back at the house, your mother runs off to retrieve them, mentioning that you should stay put.
A few seconds go by, wind starts to blow and thunder can be heard.
The screen slowly darkens and starts to rain.
An Absol runs out from the bushes scurrying towards you. Before the player can react, the Absol tackles you, knocking them old cold. It starts to rain extremely hard, and the screen goes black.
The sound of water rushing through the field plays very loudly, and after it calms, Darkrai's cry can be heard.
What the heck did I just read?!
Well, reader. I'm glad you asked. This is the game showing you how and why Volora became what it is in present time. You were out gardening with your mother, oblivious to the fact that a flood was inbound.
Why did I do this? I felt the need to put a reason behind Darkrai becoming the mascot Pokémon. Do you know why his cry played after the water stopped rushing? Darkrai saves the player from drowning, as the player was unable to save himself, being unconscious and all. Why Darkrai?
...
I dunno. I like him. He's pretty cool. Maybe me and Darkrai could hangout sometime... and play Video Games... and eat Pizza... and stuff.
Pokémon League.
So here's a dramatic change. You're all familiar with the Pokémon League right? Venture throughout the region to collect eight badges to become an eligible challenger of the Elite Four & the Champion right?
Well. Scratch that, because that's not how we roll in Volora. We have a new system here. Volora consists of a number of towns but only five are home to a Stadium. In these Stadiums, tournaments are held to reward a victor with a special token. Five wins in these tournaments are equivalent to eight badges in other regions.
So what then? Where do you go after emerging victorious in all five tournaments? That's when you hit the road for the region championship. They won't let anyone in unless you have five of these special tokens obtained from earning first place in the tournaments. This means that only the best of the best will make it there, and it is there where the ultimate trainer will be decided. The winner gets to battle the champion. From there, the battle will decide who goes home.
Oh, and if you're confused on how these tournaments even work, they are basically like the World Tournament in Pokémon Black/White 2. Choose three Pokémon to enter, and fight a number of opponents until you're the last trainer standing. These battles will always be a three on three single battle.
Pokémon!
I'll make this one as short as possible. I need sleeeeep.
Basically, all Pokémon from generation one through four can be obtained. If you don't know what that means, only Pokémon from the Kanto region, Johto region, Hoenn region and Sinnoh region can be obtained.
So why did I do this? Generation five and six have been out for a long time now. Why don't I want them in the game? This game is going to be on the GBA. Personally, I don't like seeing new Pokémon on older systems. It just feels off to me so I decided that if I were to make the game, I'd set them aside. The only exception being Sinnoh, because they're at least somewhat near the GBA's time.
All legendary Pokémon will be available for capture, and some of them will even be available before the plot ends. So if you're a guy who likes playing through Pokémon with some sick legendaries on your team, go for it. If you don't like using legendaries... well... I don't know... Save them for later, or box them or something. Let them collect dust for all I care. It's your choice.
Pokémon that require trading to evolve cannot be caught. The only way to obtain them would be to trade with NPCs. I decided to do this so that the player is able to complete the Pokédex if they wish. I would make sure that every Pokémon that has a trade evolution will have an NPC somewhere in the region dedicated to the trade.
Features.
These are the features that the game would have.
- An entirely new region, dotted with towns and cities.
Volora isn't empty people! Of course I'd add a few towns.
- A new evil team.
Team Missile takes no prisoners. Allow me to quote what one of the team administrators would say...
I'm sure you'll find that we, Team Missile, is rather straightforward with our goal. No lollygaggin'. We don't want a new world. We don't want to liberate Pokémon. Neither do we deal with landscaping. All we want is money, and a lot of it!
I'm happy with them.
- Infinite TMs.
Never worry about running out of moves ever again.
- Purchasable Master Balls.
I mean, while these seems a bit broken, wait until you see the price tag.
- Potentially the ability to travel to Kanto?
Now this one isn't set. I just think it'd be cool if you could travel to Kanto in order to find more legendary Pokémon, as I find that there would be a lot more interesting areas to hide them.
Battling Red is a possibility, and I'd make sure he wouldn't be the generic Red you see everywhere. He's not gonna have some laughably weak Pikachu, he's not going to have all three starters and the other four Pokémon are going to be decent Kanto Pokémon. Other than that, I have a plan with going through the Gym Leaders to reach Blue.
I was thinking I could use Blue as a stepping stone to get the item "Mewtwo's Armor". I mean, he is in Giovanni's old gym. Some plot connected to a storage room, looking through Giovanni's stuff. It could be a nice oppertunity to give Mewtwo's Armor some time to shine. It's hardly ever seen nowadays.
Now I probably have a load of other features in mind but because it is currently 1 a.m. my brain is dead. If I remember those features - or think of new ones, I'll either update the post or reply to it. Orrrrr if you guys are interested in blogging I could setup a Blogger for all my ideas that could be used in this hack.
Again I just want to say that this probably isn't possible for me to make if I can't learn how to hack. With that being said I would like to mention once more that if you are reading this and you know how to hack feel free to use these ideas and take this hack upon yourself. It'd be interesting to see what it looks like. But at the end of the day, this was just an idea thread. Stuff to get my creativity off my chest. If you read through the entire thing, go and buy yourself some Taco Bell and pretend that I bought it for you. I really appreciate it.
Cheers,
Mirthless.
