Pokemon Elite Redux could've been great; its multi-ability gimmick is wonderful and it breathes new life into Pokemon that are otherwise overlooked or underused, along with the buffs their given directly with stat buffs. The alternative versions of Pokemon like Loudred, Doublade, and Kadabra are really cool, and using "BP" (Battle Points) to get them which gives incentive to fighting trainers instead of just avoiding them. I love the team building aspect, with how easy it is to make a team, it almost gives a sandbox-like feeling. it's really fun to see all of the Innates/Abilities that Darky came up with to spruce up certain pokemon.
Unfortunately, it's all comprised in what could be described as just another Radical Red/Inclement Emerald clone. What's even the point of difficulty if they're realistically all the same? What happened to Pokemon Romhacking? Who the hell thought three hard battles in a row just a little bit after the very difficult second gym was a good idea? without even healing between battles? I had been chipping away at this romhack for awhile just to find out a way to defeat brawly, and it felt good to finally beat him! But the only reason why it felt good was because it was so bullshit to throw on the second gym.
Instead of actually been fun expansions on games we've loved so much to try and remix; they've been reduced to an annoying puzzle. Can you make the most broken team possible that can beat anything? It's just being roadblocked by tough battles over and over again, having to change your team and trial & error all over again. It's like we never grew from the same mentality that Pokemon Snakewood had 14 years ago. Hard for the sake of hard eventually gets boring, especially if every romhack decides to do it just because "Radical Red did it!" Instead of innovating like it has been for years,
tl;dr, Pokemon Romhacking has devolved into a game of "Following a very 'Radical' Leader."
