After 70 hours in game (probably 40-45 actual), ive finally beaten the elite 4!

This was the toughest game ive ever played, pokemon wise. absoluty amazing expericence and i cannot recommend it more. once i got past the first gym i was fine most of the time. the battles against the auro pokemon were tough, especially groudon.
hardets battle was with steven in the double battle against Team Aqua. he had 3 ground/fire types against a water team. i couldnt keep any of them alive more than a turn.
im not much of a team builder. Winning team was mostly ubers. i did have around 30 mons in the pc, all lv 100, that i tried to cycle through. things like salamence, garchomp, gyarados, diance, chaldelure, articuno, azumarill, aegislash, volcarona, hydreigon, porygon2, chansey, swampert, blaziken. all tried and failed.

This was the team who finally managed to beat it.

    Mega Mewtwo Y - Mewtwoite Y
    Rayquazza - White Herb
    Dragapult - Choice Specs/Band
    Tyranitar - Weakness Policy
    Zapdos - Life Orb
    Dracovish - Choice Scarf

Dracovish honestly did nothing in all 5 fights. poor pick. none of the elite 4 are weak to water. it did a bit of chip damage but i would have preferred something else. i didnt bother with status spam, spikes, field changes, speed of other stat changes. this was brute force. no save scumming. i did restart each battle several times however until i found out what worked.

Mewtwo was the MVP. the ability to change moves inbetween fights helped. Mewtwo swepped the dragon trainer with just ice beam. getting mewtwo involves a lot of tough trainers but i think it was worth it. i did them all at the lv 100 cap and they were tough. good practice for the elite 4.

ive since gone and beaten steven and red. might give the bosh rush a go soon.

    some questions:
how do i get to the isle of armour?
i accidently defeated lugia. will it respwan again if i beat the elite 4?
where is Ho-oh? the sceenshot makes it look like its ontop of the boss rush pyramid, which makes sense as a winners prize as lugia was the red prize.
    will battle frontier be added?

once again an amazing experience. truly well done to you. i made this account just to say how much i enjoyed this.
There's nothing wrong with a mostly Ubers team, especially when most of the E4 is Ubers themselves! And yeah...that Team Aqua multi-battle was intentionally pretty one-sided haha.
I'm personally surprised Dracovish wasn't able to revenge kill + chunk the next mon; there are a good amount of Dracovish clears in the E4. Mewtwo is definitely fair game, especially if you have to go through Blue (who may be the hardest Trainer, depending on your team comp).

    1. Isle of Armor is just north of Pacifidlog; there's a little land strip you can surf to.
    2. Unfortunately, the way things are set right now, legends are a one-time encounter.
    3. Ho-Oh is accessible after beating Red; there's an NPC inside the pyramid that will take you to the top.
    4. Battle Frontier and the last five quests are the goal for the last major update, but I am currently taking a little break since v1.10/v1.11 took quite a bit of time.

Thank you so much for the kind words; it really does mean a lot and I'm always so happy to hear about run MVPs, hardest fights, etc. This was a real treat for me to read :)
Where can I find a Nest Ball? They're supposed to be available in Verdanturf Town but they're not there even after beating Watson.
The marts are all the same and become increasingly more diverse as you get more badges; Nest Balls (and other balls) are in the Lilycove Dept. Store.

Hi, you made it that far already, so you definitely can beat this as well! Some good strategies could be sunny weather, Sturdy, Assault Vest, Unaware, or even Focus Sash.

    Appreciate it. Couple questions

    1. Ability Capsules I bought them at some point now I can't find the store
    2. The item shop everytime I go into one and click buy the screen goes black. It started happening after I got the department store unlocked so idk if that was intentional or not.
    3. For the kyogre fight I have no clue what pokemon to even use. Could use a pointer there
    4. Where do I get some of those items like focus sash, assault vest, leftovers etc. I have been completing quests to get some.
    5. Last one, Is there a good way to make money besides completing quests?

    Thank you for the help

This hack is so good!! The amount of quests and variety in pokemon makes the hack feel so free, thank you so much for making it.
Currently I'm looking for an Ash-Greninja and bought the Froakie in the game corner but once I evolved it to Greninja neither of the ability changing items let me get Battle Bond.
Is Ash-Greninja in the hack and if so how do I get it?

1 and 2 are related; what you're encountering definitely is an unintentional bug, but I can't reproduce it on my end. I also haven't tinkered with anything that I believe would impact that. That's not to say that the bug doesn't exist, but I can't get it on my end. Generally, I like to ask if you applied the patch to a clean Trashman file, did you try to use any cheats, and what emulator are you using?

For 4, those good items are tied to beating Kanto/Johto trainers; I think if you battle everyone, you should have pretty decent money.

I'm glad you're enjoying things so far; Ash-Greninja is not currently in the game, but I'll look to rectify that in the future. Apologies, but hope this doesn't hamper your enjoyment!

I've made an account just to say thank you for the great experience this game has provided!

I'll admit I haven't played many rom hacks, so I don't have a lot to compare to, but I did enjoy playing on a familiar setting (emerald map) and meet and learn about the new pkmn that I've missed (anything released after nitendo ds pretty much). My trainer card shows that I've played for 240h but I guess that's because the emulator speeds up. I've been playing for a week, quite a few hours every day.

My favorite part so far was the extra trainers/quests, with most of them being references to something. I've been trying to complete everything to 100% before moving to the next part of the game. And since Lilycove trainer battle (won't say the name to avoid spoilers) I've been revisiting old areas to catch shinies! The only part so far that I've ignored is the quest that starts at Slateport tents.

The game was above average difficulty at start, but then you can adapt as a player so you feel it gets easier. To be fair, quite a few (if not all) elite trainers and gyms could be soloed by a single pkmn, either with power up abilities or with held items. Or you could just play around the types and build a strategic team. Sometimes it takes a few tries to figure it out, you notice that the enemy uses different abilities depending on your actions and honestly you can use that to your advantage. The Pokevial having only one charge in the early game just makes you run extra trips to pokecenters or spend a lot of money on revives and pots. I understand that the first option it's probably there to prolong the gameplay time, but the second option leads to a dead end.

Personally, I've had the patience to go the extra trips and never had to buy revives and pots. I even maxed out the money by only beating the elite trainers after getting luck incense and using luck incense literally on every random trainer popping up ever since. However, going back in old areas to catch shiny versions (which costs ultra balls or lesser versions) and trying out strats (which costs mega stones, abilitycapsules, tms and lvlup trainer) ended up having zero money and no trainers to fight anymore (since I'm stuck in the story line).

Currently I'm stuck to the double fight with team aqua and I've got to say it feels very one sided. I've been testing out so many strategies but nothing worked so far. The fact that you have to go all the way back to a town to swap teams then go again in the cave to fight and see if that works and then repeat because it didn't.. I've been stuck for 3 days and all that back and forth with no results is getting pretty taxing to a point that is no longer fun unfortunately. I want to explore the rest of the game but it doesn't seem realistic to beat 2x mega + 2x Zmoves fighting you alone at the same time (because you get partnered up with someone that is completely useless). It's frustrating because it doesn't feel that you can do something better to improve, while your other team member just dies instantly every turn. Beating a hard fight as a player feels rewarding because you overcome the difficulties, but this duo fight just makes me demotivated to keep going.

I'd love to experience the rest of the game, beat the E4, catch the remaining legendaries, even attempt to complete a shiny pokedex. But remember that you choose to play a game to have fun and when that fun is lost you are not playing a game anymore, you are just doing chores..

Nevertheless, the creator is truly talented and did an amazing job. No doubt it'll only get better as it seems that each version seems to adapt to previous issues and keeps improving. I'd love to see if this creativity will expand to more games as well!

You're not alone in feeling that its too one sided. I wouldn't go as far too say emerald horizons is "amazing" or "talented" but I can understand the thought if you haven't played many romhacks. If you want to try one the best romhacks, give pokemon unbound a try. It has everything you could want and its made by the same person who made the "complete fire red upgrade" which is used by tons of people for their own hacks. So you can tell its going to be high quality.

This romhack was a treat to play. As somebody who sits in Showdown teambuilder without ever actually playing, being able to build a team without EV training, breeding for perfect IVs etc. was really great. It did feel a bit bad to dump all but my starter near the 7th gym though to build a rain team but otherwise I don't think I could have beaten the elite 4 (seriously, they are inpenitrable if you don't have a thought-out team).

Some fights are brutal but I wouldn't say any fight is "ridiculous". By the time some gym leaders / other significant characters use megas and legendaries, you have your own megas and legendaries. Legendaries are a bit scarce, but I understand that making areas for all of them would be very time-consuming.

Spoiler: Team suggestions for people struggling

Quests are a great distraction between badges and team aqua/magma stuff and locking certain mega-stones and competitive items behind the gym leader quests, whilst sounding annoying, makes fighting them very rewarding. (And, if you are struggling, beating some of these could help you a lot).

Definitely my favourite romhack in a long time, really polished and I never saw a single bug that actually impacted my experience.

P.S: The HOF screenshot got stretched and looks very nasty, unfortunately.

This romhack is a complete joke. The first gym has 6 pokemon, competitive movesets and viable items. And the player has access to NONE of those things. Things being difficult is fine, but you need to give the players the tools to overcome the difficulty. This just feels like you've never played a romhack or know how to balance anything. Nobody should play this when there are far better alternatives literally anywhere.

Maybe you should be more sensitive in your comments and not belittle the work of this rom. It was an incredible job by the creator with all the changes and new features he achieved.

You have the right opinion and you think this rom is too difficult for you and that is okay. It's definitely a Nuzlocke rom that wasn't made for everyone, just don't play it but avoid non-constructive criticism that doesn't help anyone 🤗

My brother there are like 12 pokemon between route 101 and Rustsurf tunnel that have a type advantage against Roxanne, plus more that have good tools against her. If you are attempting to Nuzlocke this ROM you may be in for a bad time, but if you are playing normally you should not be having this much trouble.

First off, thanks for sharing your feedback! The game definitely has those moments where you might scratch your head. But knowing that you got that far, you are more than capable of clearing it. At times, it might require a little RNG, but if you do revisit things or want any suggestions based on your available mons, I'd be happy to talk more with you. There's more content to see, and I hope you get the chance to experience it, but to your point, fun is the most important thing. I encourage you and everyone to play a game for fun before anything :)

These are absolutely wonderful tips that I think would benefit a lot of people; the Primal Groudon strategy is something I've personally never tried, but I think that's a testament to the ingenuity people can come up with with the abundance of available mons. I'm very happy you enjoyed the game; write-ups like these always brighten my mood. I was on a cruise with no access, so sorry for just now adding you to the Hall of Fame. Congrats on the clear as well as the first Politoed :) Screenshot looks mighty fine on the main post, where it'll stay forever haha

Difficult, but fair. On a scale of 1-10, with vanilla being a 1 and Radical Red being a 10, I would say this game sits at a 6.
    For real?
Sitting for an hour at Roxanne, all levels maxed out bc of level cap, absolutely no chance. wtf is going on.

Well if it's write-ups you want, I've got one for you :P

This is my strat doc for the boss rush. Team is attached, but in text:
    Spoiler: Team

And here are the strats per-split:
    Spoiler: Kanto

    Spoiler: Johto

    Spoiler: Hoenn

    Spoiler: Masters Eight

I planned out these strats using save-states due to the lack of trainer data, but these strats are usable enough that I was able to get a no-save clear.
