From a post story game about what happened after the events of the original 4 gen games that had you visit all four (at the time) Regions of the core games. Scrapped that idea when I was really thinking about it. I started with Red back in '99, but my favorite was always Gold after I played it, but some issues (HMs, especially waterfall, etc) with the game, I was convinced to make a game that's just like the originals, but with a twist and better QoL features to make things interesting and fun. Now that I'm actually learning RMXP and Essentials and have started to develop my dream game, I believe it's appropriate to post it here.
A classic journey in the Kanto and Johto Regions. Re-live the adventure of Red and his Starter Pokémon as he travels through the Kanto and Johto Regions collecting all 16 badges of the two Regions and battling against the Elite 4 before taking on one last task...
QUESTION: I've played many other Kanto games including the official ones. What's so great/different about this one?
ANSWER: After collecting 7 of 8 badges in the Kanto Region, journey to Johto and collect the 8 badges of that Region just before getting your final badge in Viridian. Even though not much of the core game in regards of the original story has changed, there are some differences including, but not limited to: slightly modified timeline, the plot of the Johto games incorporated into the story, the plot of the First Pokémon Movie incorporated and some Easter Eggs from the show. Basically, Giovanni still has control over Mewtwo and you have a battle with him and just before Mewtwo is about to faint, he takes off to another location where you go to find him, battle his clone army of (6) Pokémon then against Mewtwo himself again where you get the opportunity to catch him. Also, due to the addition of the Fairy type, the game is better balanced.
QUESTION: What features are in this game?
ANSWER: HMs replaced with Pokémon Skill (fully evolved flying Pokémon taking you anywhere, Psychic types being able to use their mind to move boulders, etc), Day/Night cycle with weekdays and months, real-time seasons where the season changes with real life just like the Day/Night cycle, Pokémon migration (certain Pokémon migrate depending on the season aka Pidgey fly south, Ledyba go to forests during the winter), no Fakemon, no Mega Evolutions, no Dynamax, no Z-Ring, etc, a certain red haired 2nd rival, some Pokémon lore including a new background for the original bird trio, other Pokémon such as Ditto and Voltorb also have some lore, fun, harder than the original games without complicating it, Trade Evolutions all replaced, some new evolution methods such as needing a Shellder in your Party to evolve a Slowpoke into Slowbro at any level, some Pokémon typing changed such as Marowak being part Ghost, Ninetails/Psyduck part Psychic and more!
Pokedex: 300 available Pokémon from the first 2 generations (this includes their baby and final forms from gen 3/4 as well as some other Pokémon from gen 3/4 and Sylveon). Celebi axed due to not being able to fit it in the story as well as Dunsparce, Delibird and Smeargle to fit better Pokémon.
CREDITS: the usual: GF, Essentials Team.
Also: Aveon Trainer (some overworld sprites), Thundaga (tutorials). MORE TO COME AS THE GAME PROGRESSES AND OTHER RESOURCES ADDED
Game is still in the early stages as I'm learning as I go. So far I have maps up to Cerulean City and some of the early events made. Updates will come when I can put them up, but generally once every few weeks there should be an update. Pictured below are a few maps that I made based on the HGSS maps, but tweaked as I don't have the skill to do a 1 to 1 plus I wanted to expand the maps some for a few personal reasons without making them too big.
More to come!
