First of all, Hi. I realize this has been done countless times but I wanted to give it a shot. I finished a rough draft of the prologue and would appreciate feedback of any kind. I'll log back on tomorrow night to update. Thanks for reading.
Prologue: Pallet Town
The crowd was going crazy. Two trainers confronted each other with their last Pokémon: Nidorino vs Haunter. This was the final match in the Kanto Pokémon League and the winner would be crowned Pokémon Champion. "Nidorino, use Crunch!" The strong Pokémon obeyed his trainer and leapt into the air to dive down on the unprepared Haunter. The defending Pokémon was hurt but quickly got up and shoved Nidorino off. Both Pokémon had now made this battle personal and they glared at each others eyes with a sense of determination, the same determination their trainers now had. "Haunter! Use Shadow Claw!" The ghost Pokémon attacked with great speed but the Nidorino was faster and evaded the attack easily by jumping. As quickly as he landed, Nidorino was ordered by his trainer to use Crunch once more and in a mere second he was in the air once more with his jaw fully open.
"Red! Professor Oak just called! He wants to see you and your friends right away!" Red was in his room watching the decisive match on his television. He was so into the intensity of the battle that he didn't hear his mother calling him. "Red! I said old man Oak is looking for you! And he wa-" Red's mom stopped halfway up the stairs when she was able to see him in his room. "Oh for crying out loud. Don't get so close to the damn screen!" She pulled him back from the TV but Red kept his eyes glued to the two Pokémon giving hell to one another. Red's mom was a young woman with light brown hair who cared of nothing but keeping her house clean and raising Red: her only son.
She knew that it was time for him to leave the house and go carry his own life and she accepted that fact nonetheless. "Red I won't say it again: Professor Oak is waiting for you at his lab. He said he is going to give you a Pokémon." With those last four words Red jumped up from his seat and turned off his TV. "What? Really?!" The eager youth grabbed his cap and ran downstairs.
Red and his mom lived in a small coastal town called Pallet Town. It was the smallest in the entire Kanto Region but was big enough to have it's own school, park, and small beach. Even with a low population and lack of tourist sites, the people of Kanto loved visiting pallet Town mostly for it's forestation and coastal beauty, plus, the friendly people who inhabited it. Red was raised on this town and had various friends, but two were more special than the others.
Blue and Green were almost the same age as Red with Green being a year younger and Blue being a few months older. Blue was a young man with dark cherry blonde hair who had always kept a rivalry relationship with Red and was also Oak's grandson. Green was a young lovable girl with deep purple eyes and a hair with a slightly darker brown than Red's. All three of them were known around town and shared the same dream: to become Pokémon Trainers. A year ago, Red and Blue finished their High School years and were free to do as they wished in their lives but they decided to wait until Green had also finished her schooling years so the three of them would start their journey at the same time.
===============
It has been a week since Green's graduation and Professor Oak finally called upon the young trinity to gift them their first Pokémon and bid them farewell on their journey. Today was the day. Red was running as fast as he could towards the Professor's lab but to his surprise...he wasn't there. Only Blue and the Professor's assistants were present. "Yo Red! Gramps isn't around. And where's Green? We waited a whole year for her...I ain't waiting another second!" Red replied to his rival, "Don't worry, I'll go get her. Just tell your grandpa, when he comes back, to wait for us" Blue smirked and said, "I can't promise you I won't take my Pokémon and leave but hurry up." Red was a little worried that Blue might somehow convince Oak to not give them a Pokémon but he remembered how false Blue's threats had always been so he took off for Green's house.
Once there, he informed Green's mom of the situation and asked her to rush Green down to Oak's lab while he looked for the Professor. Green's mom agreed and went upstairs to Green's room. With this, Red left and looked around Pallet Town to see if he spotted Oak somewhere, but had no luck doing so. After searching everywhere he concluded that he must had went up Route 1 so he built his courage and enthusiasm once more and started the uphill stroll. A few steps in, he was stopped by a very familiar voice. "Wait! Don't go out! It's unsafe!" Red turned around and saw the Professor running towards him. He was relieved to have finally found him.
As he started to walk out of the tall grass, a yellow flash jumped him. He was startled to see a yellow Pokémon with red cheeks and a long static tail menace him. Faster than Red could react, Oak threw a Pokeball at him, and, after a few seconds the wild Pokémon was caught. "Wild Pokémon live in tall grass, you need your own Pokémon for protection. Come with me." Just like that, the pair started walking towards Oak's lab. Professor Oak was an old man who had once been a strong Pokémon Trainer and had traveled around the world on his adventures. After many years, age finally caught up to him and he decided to retire down at Pallet Town (his home town) and become a Pokémon Professor. Life had served him well so far.
===============
After a few minutes they arrived at their destination and both Blue and Green were already there. "Yo Gramps! I'm fed up with waiting!" Blue said. "Do we really get our first Pokémon today Professor?" Green added. The Professor walked forward and replied "Yes, my dear. Today you three start your journey. Your very own Pokémon legend is about to unfold! And I apologize for the delay but I had a parcel to recieve and some other business to tend to. But worry not!" The three to-be trainers stood side by side. Their faces in this moment represented their personalities and goals. Red looked as determined as the two trainers he saw this morning on television. Blue had a confident smile and a pair of keen eyes who had been ready for this moment a long time ago. And finally, Green seemed to be as determined as Red while sticking to her beautiful confident look.
Old man Oak turned to his desk, opened one of the cabinets, and picked two Pokeballs. "Blue, you being the oldest I find it honorable if you would let Red and Green take these. I have another one for you" Oak said this in vain because once he handed the Pokeballs to the pair, Blue quickly snatched Red's from him. "I've been waiting longer than them. I deserve the first one!" Red thought about snatching his Pokémon back from Blue but resolved in not acting as childishly as Blue. The Professor sighed and gave the other Pokeball to Green "Oh Blue...I was going to give you one anyway."
Green pressed the small button that activated the Pokeball and a small looking green Pokémon with a closed seed on its back appeared. It was a Bulbasaur. Green smiled and bent down to touch him. The Pokémon seemed scared at first but the moment Green's hand touched him, he seemed to ease and gave a friendly cry to her. "Oh thank you so much Professor! It's perfect." Green had always felt like a burden to her friends for holding them back a year and she was determined to prove to them that she could two things: take care of herself and be a better trainer than them. Oak smiled, "That's a Bulbasaur. It's very friendly and protective. Take good care of him and he will of you. He is also a grass type Pokémon so be careful when facing a fire type like Charmander or Growlithe." With that, Green gave a single confident nod as in agreement and sat back to wait for Blue and Red.
"My turn!" The eldest of the three did the same and a brown Pokémon, no smaller than Bulbasaur came out. With a gentle pat in the head, Blue introduced himself to his Pokémon: Eevee. The Pokémon was covered with fur of both white and brown color and seemed to like his new trainer from the start. "That's an Eevee." Oak said, "The interesting thing about this one is that he can evolve into various forms, each one representing a different type. Choose wisely when deciding to evolve him and make sure he agrees with you." Blue nodded in the same way Green did and stepped back alongside her.
"What about me Professor?" Red said anxiously. "Oh, yes of course. Here..." Oak pulled a Pokeball from his coat's pocket and gave it to Red. "It's the Pokémon I caught earlier while you were on the edge of Route 1." Red quickly activated the Pokeball and the same yellow Pokémon that jumped him earlier appeared in front of him. Short static was being emitted from his cheeks and unlike the other two Pokémon...this one didn't seem happy or comfortable. "That's a Pikachu. Not very common but they usually dwell in forests. He's an electric type so be careful where, and when, you touch him." When Red approached him, the Pokémon stepped back as if Red meant him harm and gave a menacing screech. Red pulled back his hand. "Be careful Red. He is recently caught so he is not tame and he seems to have a rather... rough nature. But don't worry...it'll grow close to you once he sees your friendly"
Red was admittedly a bit worried about his new Pokémon but was still very happy to finally have one. He tried his best to communicate his intentions to Pikachu but the yellow creature just ignored him and avoided facing him. Red gave up and tried to put him back in his Pokeball, but, to his surprise, the Pokémon rejected it and kicked the Pokeball away with his long tail. "How curious...it seems this Pokémon dislikes the Pokeball and prefers the outside. Perhaps it's best for you to keep him outside, otherwise he will never grow close to you", Oak implied. "Well Pikachu..." Red added "I'll keep you outside the ball... but you need to behave and follow me". The Pokémon still avoided his sight at first but then slowly turned towards Red and walked towards him. Red sighed in relief and thanked the Professor deeply. The three trainers were now standing in front of the professor with their new Pokémon next to them.
"Before you go..." Oak turned and went back to his desk where he got three curious looking machines and a bag of Pokeballs, "Here, these are for you three" Old man Oak gave the small trinity some red pocket sized machines with a screen on them and 5 empty Pokeballs to each. "What are these? Phones?" Green asked. "No my dear, that's called a Pokedex. I invented those. You see...when I was a young man I had two dreams: to be a Pokémon trainer and to make a record of all living Pokémon. I'm afraid I'm too old for that now but you three together can accomplish this. Its very simple actually, if you see a Pokémon, the Pokedex will automatically scan it and give you an image and location, if known, of the Pokémon. To get the whole information however...you need to catch them. So I entrust this task to you three. Fill that Pokedex on your journey and bring it to me when completed."
Blue smirked and replied, "No sweat Gramps. Leave all to me. I'll fill this up faster than these two combined. Red, I would challenge you to a battle but I don't think your Pokémon is ready for it. When you get stronger give me a shout so my Eevee can beat your little yellow boltball. Smell ya' later!" Blue retrieved his Eevee and left the lab in a confident rush. "That Blue is always so cocky and arrogant... I seriously don't know why I still consider him my friend" Green said. "Me neither" Red added. Green returned the Bulbasaur to it's Pokeball. "Thank you again Professor. I'll do my best to fill the Pokedex. I better go get ready! See you later Red!" And just as fast as Blue left, Green was gone as well.
"Go on Red! You're not gonna let those two get the best of you, right?" Oak said smiling. Red looked at Pikachu and surprisingly the Pikachu gave a shy smile. This got his determination back. "Thank you. I'll make sure I get this filled." He waved goodbye and left the lab with his new Pokémon.
===============
Outside, Red looked up and saw a flock of Pidgeys flying towards Route 1. The sun was shining brighter than ever and the air was fresh. It was the perfect day to start his journey. "I better go home and get ready..." As he walked, the Pikachu followed but at a very different pace than him. Once home, he introduced Pikachu to his mom. "He doesn't look very friendly..." his mom insisted. "I know. But the Professor said that he will change once he gets to know me better" Red replied. "Well, while you were out I took the liberty of packing you up. Your bag has backup clothes and necessary items, I also prepared a sporty set of clothes upstairs. Why don't you go change while I make you a small meal?" The trainer agreed and changed into his new red and black clothing. His new shoes felt fit for running and his gloves were sturdy enough for mountain climbs or cave dwelling. While he ate his meal, a TV movie showed four boys walking on railroad tracks. "I better go too..." he thought.
So Red finished his meal and gave a goodbye hug to his mom. Once he stepped out of the house he felt like a new person and took the first step into his journey. Red looked around but didn't see Blue or Green anywhere. He figured they had either already left or where still in their homes preparing. The path to Route 1 was straight so he decided to run for it. "Hey stop!" a female voice called. Red turned and saw Blue's older sister waving at him. "Here..." she said, "It's a map of Kanto. It will be very useful. Blue left already and refused to give you or Green one but he's not here so take it." Red happily took the map and stored it in his bag. "Also..." she continued, "If you see Green give her this one as well. Safe travels Red, and please look out for my brother. He can be very hasty but you are still his best friend." she finished. "I'll try. Thanks." Red said. And with this...his time in Pallet Town was over. He now faced upon a new direction... Route 1.
