There are 16 pokémon anime movies out today (18 if you count the non-theatrical ones). The latest one is coming out soon. But there is no live action movie featuring pokémon yet. With live action, I mean with real humans playing characters and pokémon probably being computer rendered.

Pokémon is a world wide known and successful franchise that is still growing today with the release of new games and toys and, yes, anime movies. There are live action movies of superheroes and many other video games, so Pokémon with its rather open-ended lore that could be extended and interpreted in many ways (as seen by the many incarnations of pokémon manga, for example) should be a pretty good candidate for a smashing live action movie.
    Or not?

Would you be happy if a live action Pokémon movie was announced? Do you think it's likely that it'll ever happen?

What do you think it should be based on? Games, anime characters, something else or something completely original in a Pokémon universe?

Do you have ideas for a plot? Actors? Director? Shooting locations?

Is there something you think they should really avoid when making a live action movie of Pokémon?

Also, you don't have to answer my exact questions, of course ^^ They are just helpful things in case you're not sure what to say about it. Any thoughts on the topic are welcome!

I imagine it would be hard to make Pokémon look real (like Dobby real) since there are a lot of them and each has very intricate details themselves. However, as long as they don't make it look like live-action actors in an animated Pokémon world, I guess it would be pretty fun to watch.

Please no. I'm not going to say it's impossible to pull it off, but it'll be darn hard.
Most anime movies that we attempt to make Live-Action... kiiiiind of sucked.

I think if they tried hard enough though, they could pull it off. Most anime movies are B movies though. But I would still be down to watch it in live action, don't get me wrong. That would be the coolest thing to see. I would HAVE to watch it at least one time.
    But it could still suck xD;

I wouldn't say it would be difficult to do. Nowadays, animators are so skilled that they can make just about anything seem real. What I could see as a problem would be what the fans - who are used to seeing their dear pokémon as sprites or cartoon figures - would think of the pokémon being realized into more... well, realistic forms.

Or, they could make the movie still directed towards children, or at least towards young adults, and keep a cartooney look on the pokémon while trying to make them behave realistically together with the real environment around them.

Something like this, I would like:

Where you can still clearly see what pokémon it is, but it looks more believable than in the anime or the games.

Another part of me really want their cute, friendly faces to stay though xD And it's probably unlikely that a pokémon movie would ever not be directed towards children anyways...

Well. Pokémon isn't mainly an anime. Compared to many other popular animes, pokémon isn't on par at all (imo, but that's another discussion haha). It is mainly a video game, and there have been video games adapted into live action movies before. With varying success, of course.

A good question could be, should the movie be Japan-made? Or should it be an American (or something) production? To receive international success, I feel like they would probably not make it Japanese speaking at least. Or maybe they would make a Japanese version first and then America would convert it into an English version. Like they did with The Ring and other movies.

    *throws ideas wildly*

Here is something I saw on youtube some time ago. "Pokémon Apokélypse is a fan-trailer responding to the common trend of 'dark and gritty' reboots of popular franchises." Of course very fanmade but an interesting exploration, right? I understand what they're getting at xD Think of the newest Batman movies, or Iron man or anything really. Dark and realistic is the trend of our era.

Personally, I wouldn't like it if Pokémon would look something like that.

This would be the main problem within so many Pokémon fans if they ever decide to make one (I'm sort of disliking the idea tbh). More than half of the fans would probably want the movies to stay animated unless animators find a way to retain most Pokémon's cuteness but still make them look a tad realistic.

I agree with Zeffy. It seems to me like it would be so hard to make the pokemon look real without making them seem alien or grotesque.
