Wild Pokémon Encounters: Grass Or Not Grass

    Playing a Pokémon Game..
Would You prefer there to be grass (Running around the grass encountering pokemon as found in RBY/GSC/RSE/DP),

    Or

Running after sprites of pokemon as found in the Pokémon Ranger Games.

(Note: battling and other aspects of the game would remain normal)

Yes...but not the long grass that wild Pokemon are found in. Too played out.

I'd prefer grass over chasing after sprites.

ya, i hate having to chase after the pokemon i want. i once spent an hour and a half chasing a pokemon on ranger.

It's a lot more interesting to just look for Pokemon in the grass. I really didn't enjoy the ranger games.

    These are rather interesting comments.
Would you guys prefer maybe an alternative to both? Just an idea.

I look forward to more people voting and more discussion on this idea of grass vs no grass

I didn't have anything in mind. Hence why i asked for suggestions. Haha
I've not got a clue, if there's no grass, and no small creatures running around. What would be the replacement?

Pre-emptive running? You're walking around on a map, when suddenly you get a message that you can sense a pokémon nearby. You then choose to either confront or flee it. An item you can find later may reveal what the pokémon is before you battle it.

Just a thought. It'd probably get really annoying very quickly.

What.. every 5 seconds you'd get a message on-screen saying "My PokéSenses are Tingling".

Pretty much. Or you can have some sort of Pokemon detector that malfunctions and automatically gets you in to battles.

That is a worse idea than the rest, You'd be a skitsofrenic, "I know there are pokemon around here somewhere.. where are they?!?!"

    It's a start nonetheless.

How about a combination of the grass and the chasing sprites? Run around in grass, and every so often a pokémon sprite shows up a couple of tiles away. It stays still, so there's no running after it. You can either approach it to battle it, or step away to make the pokémon disappear.

Unless you're really clever about that idea, you'd probably end up inadvertently running into battles. And by "clever" I mean spawning the pokémon anywhere except directly in front of you (and not in places that block an exit).

Well they're only Ideas, personally i'd like to see alot more votes on Grass :P But thats my personal opinion :D

It's 85% grass at the moment in the poll.

I prefer grass (not that I've experienced sprite-chasing). I like grass to the extent that I wish cave-grass existed - I'm sick of being randomly ambushed all over the place in caves. Why can't the encounters just be away from the main path? How about a row of Max Repels stuck on lamps that act as the main way through the cave, with the encounters only (or at least mostly) taking place far away from them?

I do dislike caves. I just want to have somewhere I can wander around a bit without getting ambushed (for outside, it's anywhere that doesn't have grass on it, obviously). I'm there for the exploration, not the Zubat genocide.

Use Repels, yeah yeah. Along with TMs, I just never find myself using them (I've only ever played casually, so the TMs are unnecessary - they're for serious business only - but that doesn't seem to explain my not using Repels. Perhaps it's because I can't turn them off when I want to. Now there's another idea for my game...).

    Grass plz.

It might be repetitious but it works and it less aggravating than chasing sprites. Plus there's going to be other trainers and it might be confusing with sprites running around.
