    [PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon Sol Version

Welcome to the celestial land of Tenno! Known for its futuristic technology and advanced space program, the Tenno Region thrives thanks to the ambitions and benevolence of Team Planetary, an organization dedicated to the region's betterment. You start your Pokémon journey in the Tenno Region like many other trainers, but soon you and your childhood friend/rival witness a more sinister side of Team Planetary. They steal property and take Pokémon, all supposedly in the name of saving the region. Can the ends justify the means? As the only witnesses to these heinous acts in a region that idolizes the villains, it's up to you to stop them while striving to become the Tenno Champion. Blast off on an out-of-this-world journey of astronomical proportions!

Pokémon Sol Version is a fan project that aims to create a traditional Pokémon experience using Pokémon Essentials on RPG Maker XP. It is a part of the Cosmic Quest Project, and is technically the "third version" to the hypothetical Luna and Terra Versions. A playable beta test/demo is currently planned for a July 3rd, 2025 release date. (What's a beta/demo? I explain in detail here.)

Why is there no one here?
    Is this game complete?
    How hard is this one?
    Is there a Togepi?

Sorry for not responding right away, the system didn't send me a notification about your post.

The game's main story is complete, but I still need to polish things before it's ready to release. When I do release it next year, it will be a demo/beta test featuring the entirety of the main game, but not any of the post game yet. The post game still needs time to be built.

For difficulty, I am aiming for something that still feels like a real Pokémon game, so it's not going to be intensely difficult, but it will be slightly on the more difficult side of the spectrum, unlike the more recent Pokémon games.

Togepi is not in the regional dex, but it will be available in the post game.

    That's okay - I am patient person.^^

Oh! Can I stream your game, when you have completed the main story? Or is this not for Twitch?

I like it a little bit challenging - not so unfair, like many creaters do it. I want to play a game, not work.^^'

Only after? My poor heart..., but I will manage to play without my darling little sunshine. ;-)

I don't mind if you want to stream it. If you end up streaming the beta/demo, I'd appreciate you making sure your audience knows its not a complete product, so bugs and errors expected to occur, and that the game will be polished even more before final release, but otherwise, no problem.

    Okay.^^

And they know, that Fangames can be rich with bugs. ;-) I streamed some.^^
I like to give creators some support, so that more people wants to play their game.^^

We're only four months away from the beta/demo release of Sol Version! I've been celebrating 2025 as the Year of Tenno in honor of the upcoming release, as well as the upcoming end of my Cosmic Quest story. One of the ways I'm celebrating is with a series of articles detailing the various aspects, features, and mechanics that make Sol Version unique. These Sol Version: Behind the Scenes articles are a deep dive into the aspects, how they work, and why I made things the way I did. They'll also usually come with new screenshots of the game. My plans are for these to usually come out every other week leading up to the release of Sol Version. If you're interested in reading some behind the scenes information on Sol Version, you can read all of the articles here.

As of making this post, I've written two of these articles: HM Upgrades, which explains my stance on HMs and what I do to improve them, and The Light-Type, which explains how I originally came up with the new type and why I believe it's a justified inclusion (despite what some may argue).

Not a major update, but I did want to share that last week I posted a sprite animation for my Cosmic Quest fan fiction. While this is not directly related to Sol Version, it was created using Sol Version's engine, assets, and some existing maps, so it might still be worth taking a look at if you want a further glance into Sol Version. You can watch it here.

Also, the two most recent articles in the Sol Version: Behind the Scenes series is one focusing on both Dual-Type Moves and Signature Moves and a slightly different one telling the origin story of how Sol Version went from the imaginary whims of a child to what it is today.

I've got a handful of small updates to share.

As of today, we're a measly three weeks until the release of Sol Version's beta/demo. I am pleased to announce that I have completed all necessary development before it's release. I still have some polish and other preparation work ahead of the release to do, but at this point, baring some unforeseen tragedy, I can promise that Sol Version will hit its July 3rd release date.

Now, with this release so close, I wanted to take a moment to make sure that everyone clearly knows exactly what to expect out of this release so that people know how to temper any expectations. I've been calling it a beta/demo since its not quite entirely a beta test, but it's also not quite entirely a demo. It's a bit of both. Regardless of how you look at it, the game is not in a complete state yet, and I need help getting it to the state. This week's Sol Version: Behind the Scenes article discusses exactly what you can expect out of this release and what I even mean by a beta/demo release. Also, if you were looking to catch up on previous articles in this series, I've created a table of contents page for them here.

Last up, I took last week's release of the Switch 2 as an excuse to touch up Sol Version's cover art and logo. Here's a look, if you're interested:

    Oh, so no female protagonist?

There is a female protagonist, I just haven't been using her in promotional material because all her sprite assets were lower priority on my to-do list, as I wasn't using them in my own testing. However, they have all been implemented now and are ready for the release. The next trailer I put out will feature footage of the female protagonist as well as the male. I just didn't see a need to mention that gender choices was a feature, as it's completely standard in the actual games at this point, and I've said that this is meant to be a realistic Pokémon game. Sorry if I misled you.

    Here's a look at her:
