Yea the rock matters what route it is on just because of the landmark where Ash caught Charmander.
Also all this talk about catching Charmander there makes me think if everyone forgot about the actual storyline. If you read the story in CA's first post, it state's you, the trainer, start out in Pallet with Gary and Ash. So we probably won't be following Ash's journey, we will be following our own. Therefore, I think there will be no Charmander on the rock, no Squirtle squad, and no secret healing pokemon house with a protective Bulbasour.

About the rock and the starters: I also think that even though we are supposed to be able to (eventually) catch/receive the starters, that doesn't mean we meet them in the same place Ash did. My guess is even that it is more likely that we will meet them at a whole different time and place in the game, because we are not Ash-clones.
Other than that, I would love to see the Charmander-rock on route 24, the same as we can see Misty's bike. I just think it adds something (nostalgia perhaps?), because we are reminded of what happened there in the anime and so it adds more depth to the game.

If we're one of the trainers who starts on the same day as Ash, according to the anime we should be ahead of him (or behind him if Lost World wants to do it that way)...

I think you're right kyuuketsuki nan, i would be great to see those things just like in the anime but we are not Ash clones.

Wow, this game is mighty impressive, but what brings it down is the overall angst against Captain Arcane about the game. I really cant tell if you all are happy or upset that he returned.

He's saying that jsut because you start on the same day as ash and gary, doesnt you need to be just as far.
You may be farther ahead, or behind. In RBY, you were behind in progress compared to Gary.
Which I'm pretty sure is how we're going to do it.

If some of the story elements that the anime are based off of, most specifically misty and brock following ash, then you would HAVE to be ahead of ash for at least a little bit because how would you earn their badges otherwise?
