" Birds of a feather go down together!"
It didn't take long for Kat and Pyro to reach Route 29 after having their little break at the café, in contrast to her morning when she came into the town. Every place is easier to travel through once you see a glimpse of it. With that in mind Kat was eagerly awaiting to go back to Route 29 and see what her journey will throw at her. As she and her pokemon set foot on the starting route of this region the winds started to blow gently over the grass, making it dance a slow waltz as the air current made their way up to Kat's hair and danced around her hair.
"Refreshing isn't it?" she said feeling the wind in her face. Pyro replied with a nod and started marching in front of the girl scouting the new area. Kat had traveled a bit through this route earlier that morning s her car broke down. However, she didn't really have the time to see it clearly as she had been in a hurry. The place was an open grassy field that had, here and there, a few bushes witch gradually, as you made your way to the end of it, turned into numerous trees.
"Let's stick to the straight path for now and see where we end up!" Kat suggested. It was her first time alone, well apart from her pokemon who was there, out in the open. As thrilling as it may be, she couldn't help but feel a surge of anxiety. So the dirt path was her choice for now.
After a while of walking, they had already put a lot of distance between them and New Bark Town. The two even passed the place where Kat's car broke down, Kat saw the fresh tracks but no car, which obviously meant that the car had been repaired and Lucas had left. Pyro was still a few steps in front of Kat, acting like a knight that had to escort the princess he pledged his loyalty too. In the short time they spent together they managed to establish a firm ground to their bond and seemed that the two will work well together.
"You know you don't have to walk in front of me all the time." Kat said as she rushed to Pyro's side. The fire pig nodded serious and sprung in front of Kat once again. " If that's how you want it then….I'll race you to the end!!!" she said as she dashed past her pokemon.
"Pig…Tepig!" the pokemon cried and started running as well after her trainer. Kat had gotten a lead start and was a few feet away from Pyro. But the fire pig didn't back down so easily. He was trampling the ground in his way, dashing faster and faster, the space between him and his trainer getting shorter and shorter with every step he took.
"That's not going to be enough Pyro!" said the girl and shifted her speed into third gear. However, as she was running along the road, with Pyro following close behind, something jumped out of the grass and ran straight into Kat's leg. The poor thing got knocked on the ground.
"Oh you poor thing!" Kat said picking what looked like a green flower bud up and brushing the dust of her. As soon as the bud pokemon opened its eyes it started struggling as hard as it could, trying to escape from Kat's grip. "Don't worry I won't hurt you!" the girl said trying to calm the little pokemon.
"Dew..Budew!" it cried and turned Kat's head using its bud towards the left. After that, all went blank for our girl. Yet Pyro had just caught up to Kat and managed to see the whole scene. As soon as was turned to the left, two bird pokemon flew straight into her head and knocked her out. The bud pokemon jumped from her hands and dashed through the grass, being quickly followed by the two bird that made contact with Kat.
"Owww! What in the name of Arceus happened?" Kat said after a few minutes of being out cold. She felt a severe headache as she looked at her Pokemon who was licking her cheeks. "The last thing I remember is seeing two Pidgeys right in front of me." She said as she slowly got up. " Did they knock me out?"
"Tepig!!" the pokemon shouted as to confirm Kat's guess.
" It hurts so much!" raising her hand to her forehead. As she put her hand on the spot where the pain was the strongest her face turned from pained and confused to shocked. She quickly searched her bag for a little mirror she packed with her and pointed it at her head. The girl was rendered speechless. She had a huge bump on her head the size of a coin. Kat put the mirror in the bag and pulled something else from it. A scarf that she quickly wrapped around her forehead like a bandana. Then she dusted herself off and looked at Pyro.
"Where did they go?" she asked. Pyro promptly pointed towards the way the wild pokemon had fled as he trainer had a furious look on her face. " Let's go then! We'll show them a thing or two." And off she went where Pyro had pointed, running eve faster than when she raced with her Pokemon.
Meanwhile the Budew managed to make her way through the grass as fast as she could and ended up under a tree. The Pokemon had been chased by the two birds for some time now and was almost out of energy, so seeing as she lost their trail, she stopped for a bit to take her breath. However, as in any unpleasant situation where somebody is being chased, the chaser always catches up to their target. Same did the two Pidgeys, and soon enough the two burst out of the sky straight towards the tree where the bud pokemon was resting. The two Pidgeys started tackling and pecking the poor pokemon without giving it any chance to counter or escape.
"Hey bird brains, pick on somebody your own size!!!!" Kat shouted as she finally got to the scene. She quickly ordered Tepig to launch a Tackle. The fire pokemon stomped the ground and dashed towards one of the Pidgeys knocking it down on the ground with its attack. " Guess it paid up to watch Seth battle!" were Kat's thought as she remembered the basic things her butler taught her before she left.
"Pidgey!!!!" the unharmed Pidgey shouted as it flapped its wings to get higher. Then it dived down into a Tackle aiming of course for Pyro.
"Dodge it Pyro!!!" Kat yelled as she saw the bird on the verge of hitting her pokemon. For a few seconds she got a bit distracted as she ran to Budew who didn't even have the power to get up. Kat took the poor pokemon and placed it on a patch of grass behind the girl, at safe distance from the battlefield. The fire pig managed to dodge the attack in the last minute, jumping to its left. "Follow up with another Tackle attack! " Kat said as the Pidgey flew past Pyro. The fire pokemon chased after the bird pokemon and before it could turn around it got hit by Pyro's attack sending it flying next to its fellow accomplice.
"Tepig!" the pokemon cried proud of shoving those birds in their right place. It turned around and started walking towards Kat with a satisfied look on his face. He looked at his trainer that was just about to open her mouth. But before she could say anything Pyro got hit from the back. The two Pidgeys weren't going to give up that easily, they got up and soared straight into a Tackle, hitting the fire pig at the same time.
"Pyro, noooo!" Kat shouted as she saw her pokemon being shoved to the ground right under the tree. Pyro quickly got up again, he still had some stamina to spare and the two Pidgeys would really give him a run for his money. The two birds had flown over the fire pokemon and circled around him. "Pyro watch out!!!" Kat shouted as she saw one of the birds diving down for an attack. "Dodge again!" she yelled again seeing the other Pidgey dive as well. Pyro managed to dodge both attacks without getting hit. Guess his speed was better than that of his opponents.
"Tack….Dodge once more!!!" Kat changed her words as the Pidgeys flew up and dive back down again. It seemed like the two Pidgeys were aiming to gang up on Pyro and attack him quick and repeatedly. "Dodge every move" she said as she figured their battle strategy. So as it was told, the fire pokemon dodged move after move, jumping and running all over the place.
After a series of swiftly executed dodge maneuvers Pyro was left gasping for air. His energy was rapidly fading and soon enough one of the Pidgeys managed to land a hit on Pyro. Surprisingly, the pokemon managed to keep its ground and was still standing.
"Pyro quick use Magnitude!!!" she yelled in the spur of the moment. Pyro jumped in the air and crashed into the ground sending a huge shock wave throughout the whole ground. Yet, the birds remained without any harm. Kat looked confused for a minute but then realized the gravity of her command. She somehow forgot that ground type moves are useless on flying type like Pidgey. And to Kat's despair, the two Pidgeys took that chance and quickly launched a tackle attack, diving as fast as they could. As Pyro finished its attack, the two bird Pokemon hit him hard knocking him to the ground, making the dust rise all over the place.
"Damn it!" were Kat's words as she saw her pokemon being pummeled to the ground. It was all her fault, she called the wrong move and her pokemon paid for it. It was even harder on her because she knew about type advantages and disadvantages. She always had time to think for an answer when she was at home, but here on the battle field it was different. Kat now learnt that the pace of the battle changes from one second to the other and she has to adapt to it as well. "Pyro please be ok!" she said clenching her arm at her chest.
The pile of dust started to clear, leaving the battle field visible once again. The two bird Pokemon were cautiously flying above the field waiting to see the outcome of their attacks well. As the dust disappeared, Kat could see Pyro who managed to get up once again, but this time he was barely standing. One more hit and he would surely faint.
"Pidgey!!!" the two pokemon shouted and dived down for a Tackle.
" Those two are a pain in the neck!" Kat Thought as she was thinking for a quick way to counter. She looked around to her environment but it was very helpful. It was an open field with only one tree near. "Wait a minute!!! That's it!" she yelled has she came up with something. "Pyro run to the tree!!!" And without a second to spare, the fire pokemon took a deep breath and ran as fast as it could, with the two Pidgeys on its tail. Pyro reached the tree and stopped at its foot. It turned around and looked at the two Pidgeys who were quickly approaching, then he looked at Kat who had a determined look on her face.
"Now jump!!!" Kat shouted as the two Pidgey's were just about to hit Pyro. The fire pokemon jumped as high as it could, leaving the two bird pokemon to ram themselves into the tree. Pyro landed on the ground and looked at the two Pidgeys. To his surprise one was knocked out for good, but the other was getting up and with its last strengths flew up then dived into a Tackle. Pyro closed his eyes and then heard something crash to the ground. He opened his eyes and saw that the second Pidgey had fainted as well.
"Now we're even!!" Kat yelled as she had thrown a pebble straight into the Pidgey's head. It seemed fair enough for Kat to do so since it hadn't been a fair battle from the start. " Two against one…not gentleman like at all!! That should teach them to never pick on the weak and more important…mess with a girls face!!!" were he victory words as she walked up to get Pyro.
"Tepig!!" the pokemon seconded that. Then Kat and Pyro went over to where she had left Budew. The little bud pokemon got up at the half of the battle and had watched quietly, while it was regaining its strength.
"Seems you're a bit better now!" Kat said seeing Budew on its feet. Kat pulled out her Pokedex and pointed it at the bud pokemon. Even though she was familiar to Pidgeys she hadn't seen a pokemon like the one before her eyes.

"Budew, the Bud Pokémon. In winter, it keeps its bud closed to survive the cold, but then opens it again in the spring."
"So you're a Budew!" Kat said after hearing the Pokedex's explanation. The bud pokemon looked at Kat with a somehow surprised and disappointed at the same time. " Hey I've just started being a trainer like a few hours ago!!!" she replied seeing the pokemon's face. "Hmmmm what should we do help you recover!!!" she mumbled knowing that there was no Pokemon Center in New Bark Town and no PokeMart as well.
"Budew!!!" the pokemon said jumping up and making its way towards the tree. It quickly climbed up and by the time it reached the first branches Kat realized what it was up to. The girl didn't notice that the tree that she even used in her tactic was an Oran tree. Budew grabbed some and brought the berries down at Kat's feet for it and Pyro to eat.
"That's very nice of you!"
"Bud..Budew!" the bud pokemon replied with a smile. However, Budew was the one who had to thank them for saving it from the two Pidgeys. As soon as Budew and Pyro finished eating the berries and rested for a while to restore their energy, Kat and Pyro got up and decided it was time to continue their way through the route.
"Guess we'll be leaving now! Take care of yourself and stay out of trouble!" Kat advised the little bud pokemon as she put her bag on her shoulder.
"Tepig!!!" Pyro said bidding Budew farewell and starting to walk with her trainer towards the dirt path from before.
"Dew?!?" Budew cried seeing the two leave. The pokemon hoped to spend some more time with the two. It got on its feet and started walking in the opposite direction going through the grassy field. As it was slowly walking, the pokemon couldn't help but look back for a few times until Kat and Pyro's figure finally disappeared into the distance. At that moment Budew stopped and sat on top of a rock. The pokemon looked across the field and saw nothing but the bare wilderness, a bare solitude that left Budew with a gloomy look on its face. Then it turned its way towards where Kat and Pyro's figure disappeared a few moment ago and in a second her face was lit with a smile. "Budew!!!" it shouted as it jumped off the rock. With a clear thought in her mind she started running , in a straight path, towards the thing that made her smile.
