    Pokémon Sarunoai

    ポケットモンスターさるのあい (Pokemon Sarunoai) takes place in the region of Genova. You begin your journey in your hometown of Lepattato Town, a relatively quiet and uneventful place, after learning that your grandmother has retired from training and she has given you her Eevee.

    All seems well in the Genova region, but an evil band of criminals is working in secret in hopes of taking control of the production of Poké Balls to use them for their own evil purposes. As you progress through the region, you uncover more clues as to what their true plans actually are.

    Note: This is the first hack I have made much progress in, and although it's still very early in development, I wanted to post it here to hopefully get some feedback and, in a way, commit myself to finishing it. It probably won't be very good, but like I said, it's my first hack, and I'm working hard on it.

    I'm trying to make this hack more story-driven but I also do not want it to be completely linear.

    Features:

    • FireRed and FireRed-style tiles;
    • Regional Dex will feature an assortment of Pokémon from the first three generations and possibly later;
    • Completely custom region;
    • More challenging (but not overly) than the original FireRed;
    • (Hopefully) interesting dialogue/story
    • more to be added

    That's all for now. Thanks for reading!

    It looks alright but I'd like to see more. Is there anything special that makes your hack stand out from others? There's not much to give feedback on at the moment.

    Seems interesting i guess. What i'm hoping for is to see something different. What makes your game unique from other hacks? What makes it unique from main games? Are you going to stick with the standard Fir Red tiles? The features of this game is whats lacking, which isn't a good think since it is usually Features that drag peoples attention into a hack. I mean, there's not much to tell you since it looks that basic unfortunately. See if you can think up something special you want to incorporate into your game. Make it out there, make it different.

    One last thing. The tree tile in the Pokemon Center screenshot looks a little off to me.

    The features are fine. It's your first hack, it's completely alright to have simple features.

    My suggestion however, is for you to study maps already in the game, and copy the way they utilize certain tiles. For example:

    [PokeCommunity.com] Pok?mon Sarunoai

    Look at how the default FR game makes small ponds (check out Berry Forest). They use a certain tile near the front edge to create this "merge" illusion between the grass and the edge of the water. Small things like these, you should take note of early on. One of the most important things when it comes to mapping, is to first analyze how the tiles you plan to use are being utilized elsewhere by default maps (especially since you're sticking with FR tiles).

    The maps themselves, as well as the map design, I expect to get better and better as you keep mapping. The scripts seem fine, but make sure to proof read. The first screenshot, the tenses are messed up. There is also a screenshot with the Yes/No box up, and the player hasn't been asked a Yes/No question. That causes a little bit of confusion.

    Overall, keep at it, and I wish you good luck as you progress in your hack :)

    Thank you for the little bit of feedback you all could provide.

    And like I said, there really isn't much at this point. I wanted to commit myself to it, so that's why I posted it; I usually drop all of my projects before I get anywhere and I didn't want that to happen this time.

    I'll try to update this regularly with new screenshots/info.
