The first volume in the epic series, Join Red with his 3 Pok?mon, a good swimmer, Poliwhirl, An obedient Pok?mon, Bulbasaur, and the annoying Pikachu!

    Pok?mon Special Volume 1
    Story by Hidenari Kusaka
    Art by MATO

    Omega's Review
Overall, a good start. Some of the art is lagging what it has by the end of Volume 9 (We're talking MATO here.)

    Art 7.5/10
The Pok?mon in this book look a bit weird, compared to what we see it as today. But MATO probably only got to draw from those crummy sprites in the original Pok?mon Green and Red versions. A pretty good impression of them nonetheless. Funny how Mew doesn't have that ugly lump on it and Charmander has 2 of his backbones sticking out from his back.

    Characters [Designs 6/10] [Personality 6/10]
Not really creative as they are just based off the sprites, although MATO did managed to pull in some detail, Red's hair and all that.A lot of the other characters, like Green, Oak, Bug Catcher and stuff were just based off the sprites.

A bothering fact is that the rival always has to be better than the Hero. Green has his Charmander evolved in just a matter of time.

    Pok?mon Usage 8.5/10
The fact that Red uses Poliwhirl is pretty random. Usage of Pok?mon is pretty good, unlike most anime and manga where the Main Character gets the big fire-breathing Dragon.

    Plot 4/10
Follows the plot of the Game, with a lot of major things already known (i.e. Team Rocket). I hate the gym battle with Misty though. Reminds me of the anime.

    Overall 8/10
Very good for a start, the Manga gets a lot better as it progresses though.
