Never expected the backlash to be this big. I remember everyone screaming how let's go was a terrible game and was a cheap money grab. Now with sword and shield it feel sad but kinda great to have been right. I knew minimal effort was going to be made besides a new gimmick. I'll still buy it but I wonder if from now on Pokemon will just be In an ongoing constant stage of backlash at this point I'm glad that let's go at least tried to be different. I just hope if let's go Togepi and let's go Pichu arrive we can learn that different can be good

Is the vocal minority going to become a vocal majority? Probably not. Are they going to get more vocal? That's going to depend on Game Freak, but if the current generation are any indication of the future, then yes, it's going to get worse, and it will probably, hopefully, get bigger. I say "hopefully" because if it gets big enough it WILL force Game Freak to change the course of things, but it's unlikely to ever get big enough to effect the change that people would want to see, because it's too big a franchise to be hit by a vocal minority no matter how loudly they scream.

It's not the lack of change that most people seem to object to, but the thoroughly anti-consumer practices implemented without any kind of compensation for this. Dexit was never properly justified - despite attempts to do so, all of which were debunked as outright lies - and now we have part of the game being sold back to us as DLC and an online cloud service that costs over three times as much as Pokemon Bank and doesn't offer anything substantial to justify the inflated price. There is, in short, no care or consideration being put into the franchise. People are pissed. But I don't think it's about the minimal effort to reinvent the wheel...or if it is, then that's nothing new, because that's been going on since the first generation. It's more about the introduction of things that should have been introduced years ago and have been introduced now with no consideration as to that value they should provide. DLC is a great idea...but it should add something new to a complete game, not something that should have been in the game from the start, and was likely planned to be. Increased prices for cloud services are to be expected...but so is consumer value to justify the price, and the free version shouldn't be insultingly useless. It's the way it's done that is causing outcry, and with damn good reason.

As for Let's Go...the objections there seem to have been directed at the control scheme and the fact that it was Kanto AGAIN when a lot of people were expecting Sinnoh remakes, or were impatient for Sword and Shield. I don't think the backlash to a hypothetical sequel to that would be quite as bad, because not only do we have Sword and Shield for traditional experiences, but because it's not going to be only Gen 1 again - something a lot of people are getting fed up with after Gen VII was half Kanto - and because, I would assume, they will learn from mistakes made in that title and deliver a better quality experience.

Of course different can be good. Different can be better, even. But it needs to be introduced at the right time and presented in the right fashion, and Game Freak's PR is absolutely awful.
