hey! i'm writing a report for uni on kids and brands (u know, like nike, or PS, or pokemon and stuff like that). how would u describe pokemons to someone who's never heard of them? what can you do with them? who are they for? why do you like them??? is it just cards you can collect or what? (btw, can you mention if you're a guy or a girl and how old you are..) thx!

Pok?mon (short for pocket monsters) are creatures with different attributes and powers including but not limited to fire, water, electric, psychic, etc. Its origin in Japan, it started as a video game and soon expanded to a cartoon series, trading cards, movies, toys...practically anything and everything. In the games and anime, trainers collect and battle their Pok?mon, most commonly striving to be the "#1 Pok?mon Master." Although, admittedly, the whole fandom isn't as large as it was several years ago in its prime, Pok?mon still has a huge following worldwide. I personally like it because there's so much variety amongst the creatures you can train and use. They're all different so there's no shortage of combinations and strategies in the games. Many people consider Pok?mon to be just for kids, but that's not the case as is evident simply from looking around these forums--there are people here of all ages, young and old.

o_O Hope that helped. Oh, and I'm female, and 16, by the way.

I think Erica just about covered it....

    I'm and 18 male BTW...

    thanks

Thanks for your replies! If anyone has something to add, feel free..

true, but then why would you wanna join if you don't know what Pokemon is?

i personally like pokemon because of the varieties in pokemon and attacks they can learn. with 386 pokemon in the games, you can have 2,316 different pokemon teams (i multiplied 386 by 6 party slots) and hundreds of moves that mesh together goodly (sp?) and badly. something you could consider for the report is that pokemon are (usually) neither good nor evil. the trainer determines if his/her pokemon act good or evil. pokemon isn't only a game for guys. even tho i figured this out about a year ago, girls can like pokemon even tho it is considered by outsiders a little boy's game. gamefreak even creates the games from crystal on with a girl character in it.
    BTW i'm male and i'm 13

Pokemon are creatures with supernatural powers. Many of them resemble animals or inanimate objects in real life. They come in various shapes and sizes and can do many different things. In our world today, many kids of all ages adore Pokemon. Anything from the anime to the games to the manga. ^o^ As far as what you can do with them, there are many ways to "interact" with Pokemon. Perhaps the best way to do this is by playing the Pokemon video games where you catch, train and battle your own team of Pokemon against another's.

Some ignorant people think Pokemon is only for younger kids, but as anyone can see just by visiting a forum such as PC, Pokemon is for people of all ages. This goes for anything really. As long as something makes you happy and you enjoy it, then who really cares how old you are? X3 As for myself, I like Pokemon simply because they are so cute! XD Also, I am a fan of anime and alternate universe kind of things, so just the overall idea of Pokemon interests me. :3

Well, technically, people "collect" the Pokemon trading cards, but you can also collect the numerous video games, plushies and other such things. =3 I myself have a whole bin full of stuffed Pokemon plushies in my closet. XD Oh and I'm a 15 year old female. Hope I helped you out~! =D

WOW that was so inspiring I think most people should think like you.I'm sorry jarmo but everything about pokemon is said.I'm 14 and male.

Actually, there are 3,411,853,332,189,184 posibilities for combinations with Pok?mon assuming that there's a limit of six in a trainer's possession. (this is calculated by solving 388 to the power of six; 388 includes the 386 known Pok?mon as well as Munchlax and the pre-evolved form of Sudowudo) That's a lot of Pok?mon!

actually theres like...391 known i guess, Prevo of Mr. Mime, Evo of Sneasel, and i funky steel fighting (possibly legendary) Rukario! XD

I would explain Pokemon in 3 words: Little virtual creatures that will give you three wishes if they fall on your head at a 117 degree angle on a June day at 1:34 if your standing North-NorthEast of an Oak tree and your shadow passes directly over a Chinchilla that learned to fly by eating an Oreo shaped like Robin Williams.

    There you have it!

    Let me try.

Pokemon are creatures that have powers. THey are elemental like fire and water or phycail like figthing and poison. Pokemon is famous for its games and cartoon (AKA Anime). It looks little kidish but it can be for anybody. (COme on, I 17 and loving it.) IT can be for girls and boys alike and everybody can get into it. If you want to try a pokemon game, I suggest you can get a GBA and start playing the remakes of the orginal Red and Blue called FIrered and Leafgreen. THey remakes of the old games but just as good with. Go back to old school with a little bit of new school favor!

Well, the story description's been made, this one is from another POV ^^
I like Pok?mon, but not because of the games,or cards,or the other merchandise...Actually,I see it as an Anime and Manga. It's not a show of a game, unlike some people think...

Might overlap with other points already made, but here goes:

Pokemon (or known as Pocket Monsters in Japan -> name changed to Pokemon for US release since pocket monster is a bad slang :P) is a game, which features a hero/heroine which you can name your self (like in most RPG's).

What's different about Pokemon is that the player character doesn't fight, but instead uses Pokemon - creatures with different attributes and elements - instead.
These monsters all have different appearences, stats, and moves, which contributes to the originality of the game.

While it is simple enough for 5 year old children to play, it is also a hit with older gamers because of the wide range of tactics avaliable. The Pokemon can only learn 4 moves, and it's up to the player to choose which moves he/she want the pokemon to have, according to their tactics.

The popularity exploded after the game was released, and the game got media mixed.
Now, there is the anime series, many manga series, and even a card game.
You can even find every day items, such as cups, bowl etc, with Pokemon on them.

it was changed to pokemon to avoid any law suites from kellogs from their creation also called pocket monsters
