As far as I know, the results have been decided upon, they just have not been posted as of yet. However, you guys will just need to be patient and a little more tolerant as the judges have clashing timezones as well as other responsibilities. However, do not fret as the results will be up, but just give it a little time and they'll be up as soon as they're ready to be posted. I'll apologize for the delay but I'll also send out a plea just to again, be patient. There's no need to continue the discussion on why the results aren't up, I'll look into that. As for you guys, just comment on the photos you've seen as well as other aspects of the event.

It wont be long before they're up, just remember that all the judges need to PM each other and decide who goes through. I'm aware that each judge has a different timezone also. Again, sorry for the inconvenience, I'll be sure they wont be too long with the results for the semi-finals.

Then maybe in the schedule this should have been noted to make people aware that each judges will have to confer with each other. And if they have been decided on, then why haven't they been posted?

Pretty sloppy judging in my opinion.

Anyway, for the other contestants, it is pretty bad not to have them up once they have been decided.

  • I can see the reason we are all impatient, that is because there is one day left in the get-together and we still have to go through the semi-finals and the finals. That's why everyone is panicking. It is literally impossible to finish two rounds, with timezones, in one day, unless we can extend this, most likely not. :\ I'm trying to be patient, but I'm anxious to know if I got in, and if I can get out of the house tomorrow to snap a picture if I do pass on to the next round.

Just my two cents, don't take it for gold or anything.

Anyways, I may save a few of these images on my computer, and there are many that are good, even if they were taken on a DSi. Sometimes, technology's limits can't stop us from taking great pictures. XD

I agree, technology is more of a helper than a hinderance when taking photo's. Though once you've gotten used to shooting with a DSLR it's really hard to go back to shooting with a point and shoot imo.

Yes, I'm aware why you might be annoyed guys and again, I apologize on behalf of the judges but as I say, the results should be up soon. If need be we'll compromise for an extension on the contest, it can always be held in G&P if it really gets that far. So don't worry about time issues, I'll ensure that you get the time you need if you make it to the finals :]

Yeah, I use a point-and-shoot myself. 5MP isn't that bad, but it isn't the best. I wish I can get a better one, but money comes into play here.

Don't know how it must be for you guys, but I don't even consider any picture 'photography', if it isn't taken with my DSLR. That is just for me, not other people's pictures.

Luckily, I live on my own so I have access to my camera 24/7.

  • I have access to my camera anytime, because I'm the only one that knows how to use it. Let me ask you, if you didn't know what kind of camera I had, what would you have said about my photo in general? (I'm not asking for a rating, don't worry)

Umm, it looks a bit underexposed. Depth of field could have been more drastic (ie background could've been much more out of focus). I might've used the rule of thirds a bit more and had the flower off center. But overall it's pretty pleasing.

  • I'll take that into consideration next time. I do wish I had more control over what the camera does, though. That's one thing I am displeased about my camera. I can't keep the shutter open longer, it does this all by itself. There are presets, though, but they don't work too terribly well. :\

Those are the exact reasons I could never ever go back to a point and shoot. Having control over your aperture gives you control over your depth of field and like wise having control over your shutter speed allows you to get some really neat blurring effects. But the best part is you can actual control the exposure. With a point and shoot, you're leaving it up to the camera's chip to determine both the shutter speed and aperture.

Personally, I don't think there is enough happening in the picture. Sure, pictures aren't around the amount of items or scenery in a picture, but for me, they have to have some form of a theme and not give the feeling of 'Ooo random thing.'

As for the picture itself. I would say that the aperture could do with tightening up. Set your camera to manual, or to 'A' if you have the option and set a fast shutter speed to allow for a more blurred and better central focus on the main item. This is an example of it in one of my new pics:

You can make average pictures into something special by learning the full ins and outs of your DSLR. You might know how to use it, but you might not understand how to utilize it. Not saying you don't already, but it took me a long time to fully understand when and where to use the different settings. I don't use auto focus on the camera, I always have it set to manual and then change the different settings, ISO, shutter speed and so on, depending on the picture, mood or situation that best fits the moment. =]

  • Quick question Fabio, why do you have borders on your photos? Never been a huge fan of them myself.

The only reason I have it on them, is to draw more attention to the picture inside it. To catch the eye really. Nothing more than that. You can have a stunning picture and an average picture next to each other, but the average picture in the black outline, the eye. 9 times out of 10 will be drawn to the average picture first.

Fair enough. I see where you're coming from.

Also, I love your entry, one my favorites of your photo's.

  • Ahhh pollution. What more pollution in our world than smoking.

I won't have time to go out tomorrow and take a new one, so will have to use an existing photo:

Nice ashtray to be sure, and nice picture at that. I'll see if I can go out and grab a photo tomorrow. Don't have many on the topic of pollution, if at all to be sure.

Also, you may wanna announce the winners of round 1 in the first post or PM/VM them saying they won round 1

    Spoiler:

Background: Basically, what you see is a dam. A dried up one. Years ago, there used to be water overflowing all the time in Winter (which is the season the picture was taken in) and now... it's nothing. You can probably see the watermarks, or whatever marks it leaves on the wall. Due to global warming, pollution and other factors, the water just... dries up and because of that, places in Australia at least have to cutdown on their water usage and the dam is no longer of use, which is sad really. So yeah. And! The grass/whatever it is down below is turning yellow because there's no water supply there either.

  • Impressive one, Nica ! (:
Well, ... I don't have anything to show you >_< I'll try to go into town and take a picture.
Remember, my camera is at home (500 kilometers away) so it's gonna have to be DSi quality. ><

  • Congratulations to all the semifinalist, and let's hope you do as well in the semifinal as you did in the first round!

I'm disappointed I didn't advance though, but I will do better next year!

@560cool. You don't need to post any other photo seeing as you didn't qualify to the semifinals.
