anyone going for it in these games?

I am as I have never finished a pokedex basically because I never had red as a kid to trade with. It's different now.

    Best strategy to do it?

I'd say it's to buy two different versions of Red, Blue, or Yellow. Use one to play through. Another to safely glitch Mew, take other risks, and collect all the starters - with the results transferred to the first version.

Of course if you can rope a friend into playing, you'll have an easier time as you can share extra catches with each other.

    What he said ^.

I'm not too fussed about glitching mew though. Never had it when I was a kid as I never saw what all the fuss was about.

Best strategy is to catch every pokemon as they become available and get an extra one of the ones unavailable in either red or blue and keep them from evolving.

I've already completed the Dex in Gen 1 back when I was playing on my Gameboy.
I think I'll go for a Living Dex now... after I'm done replaying the main campaign... which I think I'll do several times :D .

As of how: first of all, I'm obviously going to glitch a Mew into existence (in fact, I already did :P ) but after this I'll do it all legit. I went a little crazy and bought two sets of Gen 1 games for the two 3DSs I own, so I largely have the means to trade with myself.

I might use the glitch to catch a Jynx, a Mr Mime and some others I forget later down the line: I like my Pokémon without nicknames, thank you very much.

I'll probably complete a Pokedex on one of my files at some point (probably Yellow), but for now, I want to do some other things and just play through the game a couple of times. I've completed the Pokedex in Red the past, so I have experience doing so. Frankly, it should be easier this time (I won't have to borrow a spare cartridge from a friend, restart it, and play through the entire game just to get the other fossil that neither of us picked, and I have enough games that I should have no problems with the different Eeveelutions). Right now, though, I'm enjoying doing different challenges, and I'm working on creating a living competitive dex (with final-stage evolutions). If a compatible Stadium release ever comes out (which I'm someone dubious about, but hopeful for nonetheless), I may look into creating competitive versions of Pokemon for all of the different cups, but for now, I'll probably stick with end-stage evolutions.

Yeah I doubt we'll ever get Stadium let alone an internet capable version (for those of us who are solo pokefans where we live). But wouldn't that be awesome??? :-)

^ I agree, internet capable pokemon 1st gen games would be amazing. And I reckon they would be quite popular aswell.

I have no means of completing my 'Dex, I only have one Game Boy and I don't know anyone else with either a working Game Boy or a copy of Red, Blue or Yellow.

Closest I got was 147, years ago.
