Seriously, what's up with all the rules in battling now?

No Legendaries/Ubers: I can understand.

Sleep Clause, Double Team Clause... Anything that puts someone in danger of losing, they "clause" it and make a rule about it... What's with all the rules now??

Next one they'll come out with: "1 Pokemon Clause", because your 1 Pokemon to their 6 brings in the Possibility that they might lose.

Jesus, is losing a freakin video game match REALLY that bad?? It's a video game, I love Pokemon just as much as the next guy, but seriously, competitive people, you gotta loosen up a little bit. People lose. It happens. Dodging the chances by taking out strategy is cheap.

First of all, wrong section.

The reason evasion clause (double team clause) exists is because it relies solely on luck, not skill. Ever seen a subseeder use DT? Game. OVER. It is totally cheap, and is a hax move. Sure there is aerial ace, but you shouldn't have to carry counters just to beat people cheap enough to rely on hax and luck to win.

As for sleep clause, there is a reason too. You CAN put one pokemon to sleep, but imagine a gengar or crobat...they are too fast to be able to absorb status. Do we all have to carry chesto berries on all our pokemon now, or sleep talk? I suppose you've never once fought a jynx without sleep clause. Or darkrai even in ubers.

Sounds to me like you're whining. Truth is, pokemon just wouldn't be fun...there'd be more sleep and double team than freakin skarmbliss! BTW, it's only ubers, not legendaries.

That's it. If you don't want to play with clauses, battle somebody who doesn't care. We do, because we prefer to actually play fair games. Accusing us of clausing good strategies made me lol. I'm sorry, but if that were true, skarmbliss, curselax, Tyranitar, and the rest of the OU class would be claused. Sheesh.

Yes, we understand that loss is part of the game. It's not like getting rid of those factors suddenly eliminates losing from the game. Just because you can't put three or four or six of my team members to sleep doesn't suddenly make me invincible.

Oniko, those rules are there to make the game more enjoyable to the player. If you really hate them so badly, refuse to play by them. Tell people to either play your way, or not play with you at all. Though very few agree with you, I'm sure there's someone out there who does.

that is totaly true w/o clauses u would have a whole team of mindreader-sheercold articunos and lock-on (isert OHKO move here) smeargle.

They have clauses for a reason!

K completely had the wrong idea about the sleep clause, thought it was meaning that there was no sleeping at all lmao

Ok though, but seriously... I didn't mean to start a thread where people get upset or anything of the like, I was just voicing an opinion, and I figured it'd go here because it was Pokemon General. Which section would it fit best in, for future reference??

In the GB Strategies and Movesets forum where it has been moved.

Also, why do you think clausing Ubers is understandable when technically, it also takes away part of the strategy of the game? Double Team and Minimize are banned for the same reason Ubers are; to prevent over-centralization of the metagame. Without evasion clause, everyone would have a team with a Baton Pass Umbreon, a bulky sweeper, a hazer and something with Aerial Ace and/or Shockwave, likewise, if Ubers weren't banned, everyone would either run a Drought team, a Drizzle team or a Sandstream team.

If we wouldn't have these clauses, competitive battles would be much more restricted than you'd think; you'll either use the same team a couple of hundred others use or you'll get owned. Not only that, but if evasion moves were allowed we'd have tediously long stallwars, which no one likes. You may think otherwise, but it's a fact that the clauses make the game more enjoyable.

To add on to that, PHaze moves like roar and whirlwing miss because of double team too...and the greatest special wall in the game has access to minimize...so skarmbliss would turn into minimizebliss basically. Evasion moves were created to destroy the metagame lol...yeah, the clauses, simply put, are needed. I've played without them in 3rd gen...never again, I'll just say that. DT-hypnosis gengar swept my entire team. That would be why we have the clauses lol

Sleep Clause and all the other clauses are banned because, Sleep Clause, it makes the game more long, and boring. OHKO Clause, um. Do you want to be OHKO'ed? Seriosuly, it's cheap, and should only be used in-game. Ubers, make the game less fun, because they have over 600 in their Stats. And have their Respective powering moves, movepools, and abilities. Also, "1 Pokemon Clause", is kinda original.

Grant is absolutely right. If you don't wanna play by those rules, mention it. I pefer not to play with sleep clause sometimes, so I mention it. If they can't handle that, they don't battle me. Itachi plays with Sleep Clause. When I go to his battle thread, I play his rules.

Yeah. But if i'm in a very good mood, then yes, i'll let you play without Sleep Clause. But that doesn't mean I won't be using strategy, Sleep Talk? If you want to play without the standard rules, make aggrements over the PM system. That's what you should do with the other rules, just find a newbie, and play a casual match with him. (He won't know a thing usually).

Itachi your "1 Pokemon Clause" is Species Clause :\

I was poking fun at the clauses.

by "1 Pokemon Clause" I meant that there would be a 1x6 battle.

Or a rule that prevents two and above, of the same pokemon of entering battle. Which is quite a stupid rule, ever consider using a [instert pokemon here] team for fun?
