Pokemon Can have more than 1 ability?

    I just realized that pokemon can only have 1 ability, even though it could have 2 possible abilities.

    For Example: Ponyta has 2 abilities. Flash Fire and Run Away. Flash Fire is more useful than run away, so why not combine them both!

    Levitate is a cool ability, so why not add it to all pokemon that can float! A pokemon family that has another ability with Levitate is the Bronzong Family. If this ability is combined with Heatproof, this pokemon has no weakness (unless Mold Breaker or Gravity comes in)!!!

    Some pokemon have 2 useful abilities, so why not combine them both! For Example: The Slowpoke Family has the Own Tempo Ability or the Oblivious Ability. If you combine them both, then they will become a little harder to beat!
     
    This is definately the wrong section to put this in.

    General Pokemon Gaming would be better.

    And yeah, it's pretty neat, especially when one of those abilities are better than the other.
     
    No matter how much I would love this, it is highly unlikely. Even though they did this in Mystery Dungeon, I highly doubt they'll put it in a game like this.

    BAAAAAAAAAAAAD idea. This would ruin the meta game. Could you imagine the evil possibilities!?

    That isn't what the OP means. Plenty of Pokémon already have two abilities to choose from, but can only have one at a time. What the OP is suggesting is that one Pokémon has two concurrent abilities.

    Pixy Guy pretty much hit the nail on the head. It wouldn't only be overpowered in the metagame, but in the game as a whole. Even something like Natural Cure with Synchronize would be pretty bad.
     
    ...not that great of an idea imo. Many pokemon with two potential natures will be overpowered and those with just their one will be worthless.

    I think the idea would be great, and should only be applied to those Pokemon who don't become broken from the two abilities merging.
    The older idea should also be kept for Pokemon who would become overpowered this way, i.e. choice between two abilities.
     
    Because Pokemon that have the possibility of having two abilities would be overpowered if they were combined.
     
    way too overpowering. I just find a pokemon with the ability I want more, like an absol with arena trap instead of preassure. a hell of a lot better than preassure...

    although, I really just HATE legendaries with only preassure. It would be a good idea but only for legendaries (as long as it isn't too good a ability combo) make things like phione actually legendary with two abilities!
     
    Yeah, multiple abilities makes breeding a pain in the bum!

    I just wish they would make Gyarados Water/Dragon and give him levitate ability.

    I highly doubt that they would do that. If they did, imagine Gyarados's power, since his only weakness would be Dragon, compared to his Rock and 2x Electric now.

    Anyways, merging certain abilities together would be neat, but for the vast majority, it wouldn't work. Bronzong, for instance, would be one of the milder cases: its ability forces it to have at least one weakness, where afterwards it would have none. Of course, the examples would get more extreme (Ludicolo Swift Swim/Rain Dish would NOT be fun).

    Although, combining relatively useless abilities such as Run Away with others wouldn't be half-bad.
     
    Well although it is a nice ability, as others before me have said - many Pokemon have abilities that would contradict each other, or over power itself.

    A better idea, would be a way to be able to have ALL pokemon have 2 abilities in its species, and then you can choose which ability it uses. It's sort of like a Pokebody.
