    [PokeCommunity.com] Pokemon Celesta

A musically-inspired Pokemon journey taking place in the Ossia region. Features new Pokemon typings and learnsets, new moves, stronger Pokemon, and an all-new region. The choice-influenced storyline incorporates two new antagonists and 11 new Legendary Pokemon as well as new Pokemon League. Finally, there will be all-new custom music for towns and battles, including for the new Legendary Pokemon.

    Changes so far:
Choose from the following starters: Treecko, Charmander, or Totodile!
Your rival will have a different pool of starters from you, influenced by his/her gender. (Example: You chose Charmander, female rival has Mudkip)
The all-caps Pokemon, moves, abilities, and trainer names have been changed to normal, first-letter capitalization (à la Gen V onwards).
New moves have been added, and many moves have received minor changes. (Example: Ancientpower now has a higher chance of raising stats)
Many Pokemon have received statistical edits, type changes, and altered learnsets. (Example: Sceptile: Grass/Dragon, learns Outrage)
Some of the moves contained in TMs have been switched for other moves.
Evolution for many Pokemon has been changed, some evolve at earlier levels and some have been fixed to evolve via different methods. (Example: Espeon evolves with Sun Stone, Haunter evolves at level 34)
The new Elite Four has been added.
The new Legendary Pokemon are fully implemented, pending sprites.

Percentage Complete: 9% (Music in progress, Pokemon edited, Story in progress)

Music Sample: Battle! Guardians of Ossia

I need help with the following: Scripting (I will write dialogue, need to be able to implement player's choices), Custom Sprites (Need 11 Pokemon, 2 Player Characters), Maps (whole new map, only Emerald location to stay is the Battle Frontier), Hex Editing, and Title Screen Editing.

Also if anyone can give me a little help importing my music with Sappy, I'd appreciate it. The instruments never import right, especially drums.

Anyone who can offer me any assistance with this project would be best off contacting me at [email protected]. If that's not ideal, I can also share my Skype if asked.

This is certainly an interesting idea, but don't you think 11 legendaries is a bit...excessive? Especially if you can catch them as the game progresses.

I see your point, but I can't really decrease the number seeing as the 8 minor legendaries are themed around the musical scale. I can't simply remove half the notes and still have it make sense. The 3 others are main storyline legendaries, and only one of those three is obtainable pre-Pokemon League. The musical legendaries are not all obtainable as the game progresses, either- three are post-Pokemon league as well. Also, D/P had 13 legendaries, R/S/E 10. So it's not a crazy stretch. ♪

Well they did, but the difference there was that they were all endgame and few of them were actually available. Plus they only really had 4 and 3 (respectively) available during that time.

But I guess the better idea would be to ask what the story is here. That'll give me more insight into your idea.

The basic story borrows a little from the original Emerald plot in that the two teams worship the two warring Legendary Pokemon (still tweaking their names) that when awakened, cause the final conflict in the game. One difference is that you can choose in some events to side with one team against the other. The third Legendary (Octaviel) is the 'leader' of the 8 musical legendaries, who are minor legendaries, similar to the legendary birds in power and importance. Sort of just powerful rares.

Octaviel's melody is the only thing that can soothe the fighting of the two Legendary Pokemon, and in order to earn its trust, you have to collect the 8 Celesta Keys, (in case you didn't know, a celesta is an instrument, sort of like a glockenspiel-piano) which replace Gym Badges, and summon it with the melody. It will calm the legendaries, and you make a choice which one to battle afterwards. The other one can be battled after beating the Advanced Pokemon League. Octaviel is available for battle after the normal Pokemon League.

EDIT: One idea I did toss around was, if 11 new legendaries did become cumbersome, reducing the 8-scale legendaries to a Major and Minor key duo. But I've already grown pretty fond of my 8.

Huh, well in that case, I don't really see it as being much of an issue assuming the legendaries' stats and moves are balanced so that they don't completely steamroll the other Pokemon (and similarly, assuming your enemies will also be balanced enough to take on the legendaries without being crushingly difficult).

I'm interested in seeing how you'll develop this. It seems like a rather adventurous game in contrast to the original games, if only because of the change from badges to Celesta Keys (which, as I see it, free up a lot of possibilities for game structure). I'm also interested in the overall musical theme, it seems interesting.

I'm glad it's interesting to you. After years of playing Pokemon and Pokemon hacks, I got a little bit sick of 8 Gym Leaders in every game, so I wanted to spice it up. Some Keys are earned via battle, other via events, and I even have ambitions of putting one in a puzzle map. There will still be battle checkpoints everywhere, because it's still Pokemon, after all, but it won't be so painstakingly linear. That's the main goal of this hack, to be a little nonlinear to make players feel like they breathed some of their own life into the story instead of being shuttled through it.

Also, most Pokemon overall have received buffs; tank Pokemon are tankier, glass cannons are glassier, and stall Pokemon are even more stubborn. Levels are going to be higher and enemies are going to use fully evolved Pokemon at higher levels, as well as held items. And I plan on balancing the 8-note legendaries to follow this pattern of strength without being utterly unbalanced.
