Pokemon... Citrus?

Ok! So uhh, here's the deal. A few days ago, I had the strongest urge to make a Pokemon ROM hack sort of thing, and so I Googled it and here I am. Unfortunately, I kinda have no experience with this. I've downloaded some of the tools (AdvanceMap is spiffy, though I'm, having troubles determining which tileset is which >_>), and frankly I'm a little overwhelmed, I'm not sure where to start. Also, I'm not sure how to go about scripting stuff... So yeah.

At any rate, I do have a bunch (exaggeration) of ideas, I have a group of friends who are helping me lay out a storyline, design gym leaders, and other stuff. I really only plan on it being between said group of friends, so it'll have a lot of inside jokes and stuff that'd seem weird to other people, but oh well. If I end up liking it enough, I'll probably submit it here. The only problem is actually... making the ROM itself. Spriting looks like it might also be an issue.

So anyway, here's a little info thing with some random info to hopefully keep you interested >_>:

    Title: Pokemon Citrus (tentative)
Version: Uhh, haven't decided. (input would be nice :D)
Pokemon: 386, maybe a couple D/P or original ones.
Starters: All 9 (can you do that?), with the rest obtainable through events/wild.
Evil Team: Not sure yet, but I intend to have them be a little darker than usual (nothing excessive), and have their story go on past the E4.
NPCs: New gym leaders, new E4, a number of different recurring rivals.
HMs: Only Surf (and Fly I guess) will be required to progress, the rest will just be used to acquire rare items, or in sidequests. Maybe some more useful TMs too.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

A few other notes... I read the Biggest Turn-Off thread, and a lot of the prominent ones were common sense to me, so that won't be an issue (in fact, I think I might be a little OCD with spelling and grammar, so yeah :P), and I'm not particularly into swearing or... mature themes.

Call me ambitious, but I'm hoping to make a unique, decent length Pokemon adventure with a good storyline. I just need some tips to help get me started, because like I said before... I'm a little overwhelmed.

EDIT: I totally had to edit out a single misplaced comma. See? OCD.

    Well, Good Luck!
I wish I could help, but I really don't know too much about ROM hacking..
Oh yea, as far as which ROM you should use for your hack, either Fire Red or Emerald..
Those seem to be the most popular anyways..
Thank God you're getting rid of those useless HM's that you need to progress, and THANK GOD you have good grammer skills. xD

    Yay, thanks for the support.

And yeah, HMs suck. If I do Emerald, I'll have Dive to make use of, which could be fun, but I like the graphical style of FR a little more. I doubt it, but if either is easier for a beginner to hack and edit, then I'd definitely want to use that one. :P

Also, I was hoping for this to be mostly a personal project, in which I would do the vast majority of the work (I have a lot of time on my hands). Is that at all realistic, considering I'm a total noob at hacking? Or should I look out for a spriter and scripter (I want to map, for sure)?

Scripters won't be willing to help a noob...so try and learn it!
I found it quite fun to make events til I got bored...
Well, read around the Docs and Tuts section and you should find some good tuts.

    Good luck!
And awesome with your good grammar!

Yeah, I have no intention of letting some other person take care of all the scripting, I want to at least have a basic knowledge of how to do it. I'll scour the tutorial area and see what I learn.

EDIT: Oh geez, I feel stupid.

So I'm reading the tutorial for PokeScript and stuff, and so far, so... meh. But! The problem is, I can't seem to locate a download link to PokeScript itself. In Irish Witch's thread it gives a link to another thread where I can supposedly download it, but I can't find anything. Am I blind? D:
