Crystal hack: Pokemon Crystal - 251

never mind! i had the version "RTC patched" downloaded. i found the 2.0 patch download. the RTC patch is the one it gives you from the download on romhacking.net. i clicked the '2.0' link in the description of the hack information.

Glad you got it figured out! Just as a quick bit of info; I've updated to 2.1. 2.1 is a minor update over 2.0 which cleans up a single graphical bug (which was super rare, anyway), but also properly adds the new locations to the pokegear map.

Hey, Ragengar! Thanks for checking the game out. The problem is that any hacks that remove or add "events" will become less compatible with each other, including the original games save files. For instance I have an "event" called "FOUGHT_MEWTWO" - which does not exist in the original game's code. If you load a save game from original crystal, into this game, the flags get confused in the engine. Now, you can add one or two without issue, but after so many the game automatically re-arranges data, and old save files just wont work. Events are needed for each static pokemon battle (Crystal 251 has something like 11), as well as any item you find on the ground (which I've added a good number of), and any item / pokemon which is given to you as a gift (there are also a few new added here) - so quite a bit of the "event flags" have been added, which old save files will not recognize.

I would have loved to have made it work, but it's just the nature of how these hacks work.
So I absolutely adored your yellow hack, and went to this one right after I finished

These are the first hacks I've ever played, so I did have two questions, sorru if it should be obvious. I usually use the "always catch wild Pokémon" cheat, just to make my life easier, as well as using pkhex to give myself a legit mew, but since it's not a normal save unfortunately it won't recognize it, Is trading possible with a normal crystal version so I could shoot one over?

On the cheat front, the always catch wild Pokémon one unfortunately just shows a bulbasaur and does not work, I tried to find the cheat myself and quickly realized I was over my head. Is there any information you would have after building this where you might be able to easially see what the cheat might be?

Thanks so much for all your work on thes

Unfortunately I cannot get this to work. I tried two different IPS patchers with a Crystal ROM file that I know is good. It will start as normal. I can set the time, choose boy or girl, and pick my name. Then when Professor Oak's monologue finishes, the game resets except now the colors are all messed up.

So there's some bad news and good news: The bad news is that I would have no idea how I would figure out what you would need to change to get the cheats to work as you would want, however, the really good news is that the game trades with the original un-patched games just fine (both gen 1 and 2). So you should be able to sneak that Mew over!

As a side note, if you are interested, I have recently released Emerald 386 for when/if you ever wanna start gen 3: https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/pokemon-emerald-386.530669/

My first guess is that you would need to find a different base ROM (it needs v1.1 NOT 1.0) - You may see the correct version tagged with "Rev A" or "Rev 1" sometimes.
Check your ROM here: https://www.romhacking.net/hash/ and compare all the info it puts out to the following info:

ROM / ISO Information:
  • Database match: Pokemon - Crystal Version (USA, Europe) (Rev 1)
  • Database: No-Intro: Game Boy/Color (v. 20210227-015730)
  • File/ROM SHA-1: F2F52230B536214EF7C9924F483392993E226CFB
  • File/ROM CRC32: 3358E30A

If you have the correct ROM, then my guess is that either the ROM file you have is somehow corrupt (it happens) and you'll just need to find a different (and legal) source for your ROM, or that the problem must be the emulator software/hardware? I know one player reported occasional glitching with a retron device.

OK no worries! I'll figure something out. And trust me, it's already patched and ready to go x3

Hi, Razormime. I would like to know if it's possible to play your game on the N64 using the Transfer Pak. Nowadays, it's possible to copy saves using Everdrive's features. Congratulations on your work on this game!

Just finished the game. Only issue I have run into is magmar produces ponyta babies and renders magby impossible to aquire. Not sure if it is an issue with the patch or just a random error in my rom.

I'm having the same issue regarding Articuno, tried everything but can't find any combination to get to the platform for the static encounter.

Would anyone be so kind to share a video showing how to get there? any hint would be appreciated.

That's the only Pokémon I need to complete my Pokédex.

Thanks!

I have not tested this myself, but I do believe that it should work. Pokemon Stadium should be checking if this is one of the Pokemon games, and the data should return "true" - next, depending on what you select for the tower, Stadium is going to copy the game over to the N64 and just play it. So it should run just fine. I imagine that if one were to somehow give any gameboy color game header information which identifies as a pokemon game, you might be able to play those as well. However, I imagine organizing boxes and items might get glitchy with that.

But yeah, I think it should work just fine as I purposefully didn't modify anything relating to boxes on the mystery gift code specifically to keep compatibility with Stadium 2. Let me know if you try it out!

This must be something on your end; either a bad rom, or maybe some bit of data got corrupted somewhere, or just the wrong version (it needs to be crystal rev 1, NOT the first release). I have completed a start-to-finish regular playthrough of Crystal myself with a 100% filled dex, so I can confirm that Magmar can breed Magby just fine.

Sorry for the long reply, for some reason I was not alerted to the fact that i had replies to see on this thread - very strange!

Anyway can you DM me if you are still having issues with this puzzle? I can send you the answer key!
