Pokemon Dark Chronicles will be made using RPG Maker XP. I already know Ruby as web-languange and have checked out it's ability to do scripts. It's not the best language out there but it works. I don't know the extent of RGSS ability in RM XP at this point, but it should be worthwhile.

We already know that the RGSS in RM XP has the ability to completely customize the DBS and CMS. It's just a matter of time and effort on my part, since I know the basics.

    The Features:

    - A Real-Time battle system. Whenever you're not in a city, there is a CMS always present at the bottom of the screen. Switching between pokemon has never been easier. Throw out Pikachu, let him battle. When he is low on health, access the menu and select a different pokemon. The active pokemon follows you wherever you go.

    - It will be a difficult and long process getting all the sprites for the pokemon to follow your character around. Anyone want to help, let me know.

    - As many pokemon as possible. Perhaps 300+ but you and I both know there are pokemon that nobody ever uses. Instead, each pokemon will be more practical. Better attacks, more varied attacks, etc...

    - Puzzles that the main character has to figure out, or in combination with various pokemon that you should have.

    - Screen captures from the Pokemon TV cartoon. With each new area that you explore, Ash and his friends, Misty and Brock, will be shown via images. Also spread throughout the game are instances in which screens will be shown for humor, story, or various other reasons. In comic-book style chapter headlines.

    Obvious thing:

    - Ability to catch and store pokemon. A lot of pokemon games lack this ability, lol. Whether demo or full game, it just wasn't reasonably possible in rm2k/2k3 with the limitations of those respective programs.

    - Start out with zilch, zero, nadda. Like most of the pokemon games, you get a choice of what pokemon to start with. Pokemon not yet decided.

    - Like in Ruby/Sapphire, ability to plant berry bushes.

    ------------------------------

Well that's about it. I just want to focus on the ability to do real time battle with your pokemon. It can either turn out really great or really crappy. Those of you who just have to have it in turn-based like the gameboy games will probably not like it. But all these projects seem to be doing the same thing, with the exception of a few.

Remember, RM XP has 3 times the resolution size as rm2k/2k3... You can use better quality images, bigger maps, directly use .mp3 files, and complete customization using the RGSS.

Unfortunatally, this also ups the requirements for people on low end machines. But if you have a 1.2 ghz, 256 ram, 32mb video machine or better than you will have absolutely no problem.

Anyone interested in helping, my email is chokaro @ gmail . com

Obviously I can't start serious work on this project until RM XP is translated or they release it in English. I have already ordered through amazon.com, so I own a legal copy when it gets here. Just waiting for the translation so I'll be able to understand it.

    Haha Phoenix ;)

Well I will probably make up my own. For one it's an action-oriented game instead of turn-based, so the 'levels' or routes would need to be a little different. Just have to see I guess. Don't want it to be the same old areas you've been too. Same time gotta be unique and continue in pokemon style.

    Any suggestions?

Image quality in RM XP... This is the trial version and I don't know japanese. There are four layers instead of three, and also basic tile sets you can call from anywhere. For instance, your tileset doesn't have to have water on it, as water can be added to the map from a seperate graphic...

Lots of neat features like that will make RM XP a lot easier for pokemon game makers. Especially if you want that special 'character reflection in the water' effect.

The japanese version is already out. It's just a matter of when it gets translated. I should be getting the japanese copy in the mail soon, but I still won't be able to use it, as I don't know japanese...

The Trial doesn't save, so it wasn't worth making an awesome piece for the logo. Just snagged that off google.

BTW - Phoenix. Nice game - wish I could play it.

Chances there will be an english version? 5%
Chances it will be translated despite new 'authorized encoding' system? 95%

So why DID I purchase the japanese version?

Simple: Say it costs them 600,000 to make this product. 50,000 people purchase the product at 40 dollars. Enterbrain gets only 10 of that after the distributor costs, online selling fees, etc.... How much money have they made? 500,000 ....

By the time that many people have the product, it's been translated and distributed on the net. Hundreds of thousands of people have the product, but only 50,000 people paid for it. Sure, some people will still purchase the product. That's how they've BROKEN EVEN on all the other RPG Makers.

They're not making money from these programs, and if they don't make money, eventually they will stop making these programs. Enterbrain has already announced that this is the last one if people do the same thing as with the others.

Go buy the product so they can make RPG Maker 3D or something. So... um... that's why. And yes it does cost that much to make professional products.

I was unaware that there is an english trial?... I have the Japanese trial. That's where I put in the trading card wallpaper as the title... I can't understand it but I know where the functions are :P
