I was starting my new Emerald, and I could not, if my life depended on it, figure out a good team. So that's why I'm posting here. Don't worry about the movesets right now, I'll be figuring that out as I go.

    Fire- Arcanine or Charizard
    Water- Swampert
    Electric- Manectric
    Flying- Salamence
    Dragon- Still Salamence
    Psychic- Gardevoir
    Sixth member- Dusclops

Torkoa or Camerupt would be good for Fire
Gardevoir is pretty Beastly for Psychic
Is Salamence the Dragon type in the list or the Flying type?

Gardevoir is the easiest Psychic-type to get though Alakazam is superior if you can get it to evolve with a friend and you can breed the elemental punches onto it. Otherwise Gardy is superior.

There aren't really any good Fire-types if I'm being honest with you. Blaziken is really the only one and you didn't start with it. Camerupt is probably the best though Houndoom is better if you will wait until after the Elite Four to get it.

Swellow is a decent Flying-type though it is exposed as underpowered as the game goes on--it's inferior to Salamence in almost every way. Since you have your Flying AND Dragon bases covered with Salamence, why not use a bulky Pokemon like Claydol, Donphan, or Dusclops? They can get you out of tough situations when you don't have a good match-up otherwise.

If you still want a Flying-type, Gyarados is the best. Dragon Dance and Return are a fabulous combo with Intimidate. Its movepool is pretty limited though since its Special Attack is too low to use.

Yeah, I think I'll go with Salamence being both flying and dragon. I'll just trade from FireRed to get my fire type, it's got some good ones.
