Pokemon Energy Cards

From what I've seen, a deck should be at least half energies which is around 20-30.
As for other cards, it really depends on your strategy. Someone won the World Championship with only about 10-15 Pokemon but lots of Trainer cards. I actually own a copy of his deck.
Its really depends on how you plan on running your deck.

I've never won a game.

should my deck be by type? like a fire deck or should it have different types? i think my water deck is awesome. i have 2 shiny palkias that i got in the same pack, hee hee

30-40 at least. Otherwise you will run out of power. fo'sure.

30-40 Energies? Do what now?

You need 20 max. Keep it at a 1/1/1 ratio with your cards - average out at 20 Pokémon, 20 Trainers and 20 Energy. That's only a guideline, however, so there is leeway.

30 - 40 energies is way too much. My current deck (which is really bad, but I'm hoping to get that fixed after Christmas. =P) has 18 energies and even that's too much sometimes. From what I've seen by lurking on Pokébeach, the standard amount of energies for decks seems to be around 12 - 16 basic energy cards and 4 - 8 special energy cards. For basic Pokémon I'd say about 8 - 12. With cards such as Roseanne's Research and Smeargle (SW) getting enough energy and getting your basic Pokémon on the field shouldn't be too hard so there's no need to go overboard with Pokémon and energies, especially since supporters usually allow you to search for the card you need the most which is much more effective than hoping to draw the right card.

Wow, how things have changed. In classic formats, you are better to run energy:pokemon:trainer ratios of 20:10:30 or even more trainers and less energy. But that's with dbl colourless energy and trainers like Bill and Oak. I have no idea how the balance works nowadays.

Yeah, 40 energy is completely over the top. Eh...I don't do the new format, but my old deck has 20 basic energy, 12 basic pokemon and 6 evos with the rest trainer. Even so, I think I'm going a bit overboard with the energy, even though my strategy largely revolves around high-power energy discard attacks (Particularly Ninetales <3). Meh, the exact ratio that works best depends on your strategy; poke around lists of decks that have worked and see how they do it. That's usually a good place to start when learning a TCG. :3

About 15. Mebbe 2 stage 1/2 cards then 3 trainers.

Ignore this guy he knows nothing ¬_¬

Start with around a 20/20/20 Pokemon trainer energy line to begin. As you get better cards and experience, by bumping up certain trainer lines you can significantly drop your energy content to about 15, whilst having an even faster but just as consistent deck

snikerz35, don't write in all-caps and use that sort of language; it will provoke people as it comes across like you're shouting at them. Make sure to keep things polite, as one of our rules here at PC is to respect all members.
