Here's an idea for a new Pokemon game I might make. Tell me what you guys think.

    General

I hope to make this game more unique than the traditional Pokemon games. That is, you will play as a Pokemon, specifically Eevee, instead of a trainer. Sort of like Mystery Dungeon, but the combat will be different, more of a traditional, turn based combat.

    Plot

In this game, you'll play as an Eevee(You'll pick a name for Eevee) that's been captured by Team Rocket. Eevee wakes up in a cell, with absolutely no memory of anything. It finds it was taken here for research on Pokemon evolution. Eevee is exposed to high radiation in hopes to cause Eevee to evolve into a new Pokemon. Realizing this experiment could be hurting it, Eevee tries to escape. It meets with a fellow captured Pokemon, Porygon. Formulating a plan, the two manage to escape. After narrowly getting away, Eevee is forced to run as Team Rocket pursues it. Eevee ventures through many areas, meeting many Pokemon. Through its journey, Eevee starts to realize the truth behind itself and its capture...

    Combat

Combat will be three on three. That is, you'll have two partners versus three Pokemon. There will be wild Pokemon, as well as fights with trainers. Wild Pokemon can join you, similar to Mystery Dungeon. Certain Pokemon will also join your team through the course of the story. TM's will be include, and you can get all Pokemon to join your team (I might include D/P Pokemon). However, there are no egg moves. All moves will have their same PP and power. All other mechanics of traditional Pokemon games, such as abilities, ect will be included.

    Evolution

Evolution will be a big theme in this game, especially with the Eevee. Being as there is no trainer, I'll probably add the Mystery Dungeon items in terms of evolution. There will also be an item for friendship evolution. I'll add five new Eevee evolutions (Ghost, Dragon, Flying, Poison, and Steel) as well as include all the old ones. Other than that, there won't be any new Pokemon. I want to keep this close to the fundamentals of Pokemon while adding my own ideas. A bunch of new Pokemon could ruin this.

That's all I have for now. This is just a general idea, so any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. I'll post some concept art soon.

Oh, I'll probably program this in Visual Basic. In case anyone wondered.

Well, the storyline is original, but battling sounds more boring than in Mystery Dungeon (Sorry, but that is my opinion). And you might want to start in RPG Maker first (Sorry, but you are new and have not really shown what you can do yet).

Well, to be honest I've programed in VB a ton, C++ a little, but I've never used RPG maker. I suppose it may be easier, but I don't own it. How much does it cost?

I haven't given combat a great deal of thought yet, so that up for change. I might just go with a traditional style, like in the GBA Pokemon games. What exactly about it sounds boring?

Thanks for the feedback, any other suggestions are appreciated.

Well, basically, the description of battle you gave is a basic turn-based battle system. Try adding in random events such as a meteor crashing into the field (Well, nothing to that extreme, but you get the point) and weather effects would be nice.

And RPG Maker is very easy. RPG Maker XP uses event editing, like in RPG Maker 2003, but also has a scripting system (The language is RGSS, a variation of Ruby). RPG Maker, for the legal version, costs $60 US (There are some illegal translated versions out there, but I cannot give you a link). RPG Maker 2003 uses events that are made by a series of commands that are prebuilt into the engine (You cannot add more commands, though). This is also a warez, so I cannot give you a link (The only way to get this version of RPG Maker is to get the warez)

I see what your saying. Why would anyone want to play my game unless it does something new and does it well. I will have to think of something to add to the combat. After all, gameplay is the most important element of any game.

Well, I guess I'll download the trail of RPG Maker to see if I like it. I may or may not buy it depending on how it works (I'd never download anything illegally). I would rather come up with my own algorithm than use someone elses. Then again, why reinvent the wheel? I don't know, maybe I'm aiming too high.

Some time before I tried to make a game like this, the battle system was not turn based. It was somewhat like the battle system in Zelda but much more advanced (4 attacks each corresponding with a specific key and It was in a closed space somewhat like an arena). I never started on the game because I never actually wanted to xD. I got the idea when I was bored. If you want you could implement that type of a battle system (it is up to you, I just gave a suggestion) and Don I don't think you should insist on her using RMXP because she already knows VB. VB is much more flexible than RMXP and I guess, since she knows more of VB than RMXP, the game she will be making using VB will be better.

    And now for the reviews:

Storyline: 5/10 (could use a bit more detailing and twists)
Gameplay: What can I say? The features you are planning to put are not mention the only one mentioned is the style of combat so I can't give my review on this.
Originality: 7/10 (I have seen a lot of projects like this before)

You have my support! If you need any help with art related stuff or if your using RMXP any coding, mechanics related stuff please be sure to PM me. I'll try my best to help you!

    Cheers!

Hey thanks for the ideas, Krishnan. I probably should have given more thought into the game before I posted, I haven't really come up with everything thing yet. I just wanted to know if this idea had promise or not. I'll come up with some more stuff tonight and post it tomorrow.

As for the combat, a real time system may be a good idea. I think it may be harder to program, though. Maybe a Knights of the Old Rebublic-style gameplay may work, as it was a unique blend of turn based and real time. The four-key idea could work.

I think I'll stay with VB for now, especially since I have made turn-based RPGs in VB before (Although I've never finished them XD). I like how flexable VB actually is. Sure, it may be harder to use than RPG Maker, but since when was anything easy really worth doing? Can RPG Maker save files as .exe?

And Krishnan, thank you for offering to help. Once I get my ideas together, I'll be sure to PM you!

Here some more of the plot. I'd post more, but it is a wall of text. Tell me if you think this is a good lead.

You are an Eevee who wakes up one day in a Team Rocket laboratory. Many tests involving radiation are being done to test Eevee's evolutionary properties. Having no memory of how you got there or who you even are, you are eager to escape. You team up with a Porygon, a local cell mate. Using your combined abilities, you are barely able to escape. However, you troubles are not over. Team Rocket in relentless in their pursuit and every wild Pokemon you meet seems to have a personal grudge against you. Questioning your past, you seek to uncover the details.

Porygon suggests that you visit the library, as he can access the internet and hopefully find a lead. At night, you are able to sneak in and Porygon logs on. Although he is unable to uncover any direct evidence, he does locate one point of interest. Uxie, the knowledge Pokemon, may have the answer. Together, you and Porygon leave to uncover your past.

Porygon thinks Uxie is located at Wisdom Lake, a distant place surrounded by a dangerous mountain. You leave off, and manage to climb the harsh landscape. Near the top, you finally meet Uxie.

Uxie acts very hostile, tell you that you'll never gain its power. Although you try to explain your situation, Uxie attacks you.

After managing to defeat it, you demand the Uxie tell you about your past. Uxie stares at you for a minute, then asks, "You really don't remember?". You explain to Uxie that you have no idea, and it stares at you longer. Finally, it says, "What is lightly gained is lightly esteemed. You must find the truth yourself. I can promise you this much, however, you may not want to know at all. Knowledge can bring great power to those who posses it, but it can also bring equal sorrow…" You stare at Uxie with amazement, and begin to leave when suddenly, it says, "Take this, at some point in your journey, it may bring you the strength you require". Uxie then hands over one of the Eevee evolution items. "Go to the Tin Tower, and seek Ho-oh. It may be able to aid you in your endeavor".
