Is it just me, or are Pokemon games getting harder? No wait, those numbers up there aren't opinions to be debated they're facts to be dealt with. Hang on, let me compare First Gym Leaders, just to confirm.

    Brock: 12 - 14
    Falkner: 7 - 9
    Roxanne: 14 - 15
    Roark: 12 - 14

This seems a little more cryptic. Johto gets easy, Hoenn's harder and Sinnoh and Kanto are identical. I'll compare final Gym leaders now, and see what comes up.

    Giovanni: 42 - 50
    Clair: 37 - 40
    Wallace: 40 - 43
    Volkner: 46 - 49

Okay, now it seems like the difficulty curve is all over the place. Then again, these are separate games. I'll just compare all the Gym Leaders.

    2nd Gym Leader
    Misty: 18 - 21
    Bugsy: 14 - 16
    Brawly: 17 - 18
    Gardenia: 19 - 22

    3rd Gym Leader
    Lt. Surge: 21 - 24
    Whitney: 18 - 20
    Wattson: 20 - 23
    Maylene: 27 - 30

    4th Gym Leader
    Erika: 24 - 29
    Morty: 21 - 23
    Flannery: 26 - 28
    Crasher Wake: 27 - 30

    5th Gym Leader
    Koga: 37 - 44
    Chuck: 27 - 30
    Norman: 28 - 31
    Fantina: 32 -36

    6th Gym Leader
    Sabrina: 38 - 43
    Jasmine: 30 - 35
    Winona: 31 - 33
    Byron: 36 - 39

    7th Gym Leader
    Blaine: 40 - 47
    Pryce: 27 - 31
    Tate & Liza: 42 - 42
    Candice: 38 - 42

Do you see what I see? Here, I'll list the generations from hardest to easiest:

Kanto AVERAGE HIGHEST LEVELED POKEMON OF GYM LEADER: 34
Sinnoh AVERAGE HIGHEST LEVELED POKEMON OF GYM LEADER: 32.75
Hoenn AVERAGE HIGHEST LEVELED POKEMON OF GYM LEADER: 29.125
Johto AVERAGE HIGHEST LEVELED POKEMON OF GYM LEADER: 25.5

This means, that whatever the next region is going to be, it's going to be tougher than Sinnoh. According to this data, the next region will most likely surpass Kanto.

So, do you people think that the Pokemon games are getting harder and harder as time goes by?

Nah, they've gotten easier. I beat the 3rd member of the Elite 4 in Sinnoh with Torterra single handedly.

Just personally, I've found they've gotten easier. Although that's most likely the result of increased experience, knowledge, and access to the internet. :P

His argument is based on objective measures like gym leader levels...while you're arguing that a high-attack ground-type pokemon can easily sweep a team of fire-type pokemon.

not exactly the best argument. :P

In response to the original post, I believe that the higher levels help to offset the fact that Hoenn and sinnoh are significantly larger (meaning more random trainers) than Kanto and johto. As well as the fact that the evil teams are more recurring in the latter two regions as well. The more exp. earned during regular gameplay means that gym leaders and the E4 can be upped to higher levels without any need for significant grinding. :P

Personally it seems a lot easier than it used to. Even though the levels are higher the pokemon arent that hard to beat.

They've gotten way easier. Johto and Sinnoh I didn't even have to do any extra training before the Pokemon league, where as in Kanto I usually ahve to train my Pokemon a few levels after I get past Victory Road, and Hoen I sometimes have to do 1 or 2 levels but not always.

hell no! i breezed through the elite four and cynthia with this team

    Empoleon Lv 61
    Dialga Lv 51
    Machoke Lv 45
    Medicham Lv 44
    Infernape Lv 44
    Crobat Lv 45

    :O

I remember from my experience back in Pokemon Fire, where the Gym Leaders were a bit harder than the now day ones, also the Johto has been easer as in Pokemon Gyms. - In my opinion the Gyms should get harder. However it is exciting how in the Pokemon Games they have inserted more funny ways to approach the Gym Leader, like Ice, Teleports etc.

I think they're all around the same, save for Johto which was underlevelled. Obviously we have all found them to get easier, because with each game we play we get more experienced, older and more intelligent. Obviously it's going to get easier for us lot.

Its not about just levels that make it hard, its the enemys types, what pokemon you have and the Gym leaders strategys EG. Whitney has the lowest levels compared to the other third gym leaders, but she is defo the hardest due to here deadly rollout Miltank strategy.

levels really have nothing to do with any of the Pokemon games getting harder. I found the games getting easier because of the new move system and more better moves to KO your opponets quicker

Lorelei could have murdered Torterra. Basically, Flint sucks.

I wish they were harder. I overtrain in every game, so I don't see anything difficult about those levels.

They sort of started out strong, but it's slightly getting easier.

But I expect them to make a Region with even stronger Pokemon than Hoenn and Kanto.

    Interesting discussion.

Honestly, I have felt no change in difficulty. Mainly because I always raise my Pokemon to higher levels than gym leaders, although Cynthia REALLY gave me a run for my money when I faced her in Pokemon Diamond. I hate her Spiritomb!!

In a way they are doing both, but at the same time I think Kanto was the strongest league. Sinnoh was mighty close. Even though I think Johto might get a little raise in levels, it wont compare to Kanto and Sinnoh.

I almost always under level, but I beat Johto/Hoenn easily. Kanto and Sinnoh were a bit harder.

That increasing level phenomenon is likely due to the games getting longer, not necessarily harder.

Yup. It took me some time to defeat Cynthia but I defeated the earlier champs more easily than Cynthia. I really don't think that the gyms are getting hard. I think that only the Champ and the E4 are improving their levels. That's a good thing according to me.

Well they are getting harder but for only those who cut as for me i train and battle nearly all trainers i can find so reaching my main goal which is lvl 70 before elite four is a very easy thing to do but newbies might find it hard.
